January 6, 201411 yr Author 100. THE WIZARD OF OZ FILM CAST - DING DONG! THE WITCH IS DEAD (-51 POINTS) PHQLQ1Rc_Js WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 1 OCC PEAK: 2 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 8 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 2 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 9 POSITIVE VOTES: 7 NEGATIVE VOTES: 19 RUN: 8 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -51 If Robin Thicke was the most controversial #1 of the year then Ding Dong is definitely the most controversial top ten of the year, originally a song from The Wizard Of Oz celebrating the death of The Wicked Witch of the East, a large chunk of the British record-buying public turned to this song to sum their feelings on the death of the UK's only female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, which was greeted by outrage by Thatcherites and people who just generally thought it was disrespectful, the BBC refused to play the song in full on the official chart, instead just a snippet, but if memory serves they still played the offending title anyway. This decision too was greeted with outrage claiming censorship. A lot of the voters (myself included) made clear that they were just juding the song that week, no political agenda involved.
January 6, 201411 yr I still disagree with people purchasing the song, although I had actually forgotten it even happened!
January 6, 201411 yr Author 99. CHARLIE BROWN - ON MY WAY (-48 POINTS) zXrIXk0FyOE WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 1 OCC PEAK: 7 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 9 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 0 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 3 POSITIVE VOTES: 6 NEGATIVE VOTES: 19 RUN: 9 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -48 A bit more of a more boring song up next both in terms of controversy and song content, the song itself is quite pleasant but definitely forgettable. There are only nine more songs to feature which didn't get a single "+5".
January 6, 201411 yr Author 98. THE WANTED - SHOW ME LOVE (AMERICA) (-48 POINTS) jgA4iFFhe14 WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 1 OCC PEAK: 8 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 9 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 1 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 4 POSITIVE VOTES: 7 NEGATIVE VOTES: 19 RUN: 9 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -48 So The Wanted managed at least one showing in the T100 leaving McFly & One Direction to battle it out for the top boyband single of the year, the song has another gimicky title and is the most boring of their three top 10 hits this year, God knows why it came top. SML(A) came higher than OMW as it recieved one "+5" compared to Brown's none.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 97. SEBASTIAN INGROSSO, TOMMY TRASH & JOHN MARTIN - RELOAD (-48 POINTS) GuAtcpFQpMw WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 2 OCC PEAK: 3 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 7 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 3 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 5 POSITIVE VOTES: 19 NEGATIVE VOTES: 38 RUN: 6-8 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -24 Isn't it always the way? You wait 60 chart years for top ten called "Reload" then two come along in a matter of months, this one's better than the other one though. Not my favourite dance track of the year, but still decent. John Martin has just "Don't You Worry Child" left now. Reload finishes higher than SML(A) as it recieved three "+5s" compared to The Wanted's one.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 96. BRUNO MARS - LOCKED OUT OF HEAVEN (-48 POINTS) e-fA-gBCkj0 WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 3 (in 2013) OCC PEAK: 4 (1wk) (in 2013) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 8 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 4 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 10 POSITIVE VOTES: 25 NEGATIVE VOTES: 35 RUN: 8-8-8 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -16 Finishing off the quartet of songs which got -48 (which is the biggest tie of score in the year), is another 2012 hangover, this in the form of Bruno Mars, and one of my favourites from his album "Locked Out Of Heaven", it's definitely got that Police/Sting vibe about it, which sounded refreshingly different to a lot of stuff on the radio at the time. LOOH finishes higher than Reload as it recieved four "+5"s compared to Ingrosso's three.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 95. LEAH MCFALL - I WILL SURVIVE (-47 POINTS) 8AimnD68l-w WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 1 OCC PEAK: 8 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 9 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 0 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 5 POSITIVE VOTES: 8 NEGATIVE VOTES: 19 RUN: 9 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -47 Due to be back on our screens shortly BBC's The Voice gave us its first ever T10 hit this year when they chose to release the finalists' songs as singles, with Leah McFall proving to be the most popular even though she lost the show to Andrea Begley. There are probably a few reasons why McFall lost to her fellow Northern Irelander, but I thought when she sung "Killing Me Softly" she did it very well, but she started over singing EVERY song, including this one. The Voice is still somewhat represented in this countdown albeit in an uncredited copacity as Series 1 finalist Becky Hill features on Wilkinson's Afterglow.
January 6, 201411 yr Absolutely  Leah's version of I Will Survive! I hope she releases her album soon!
January 6, 201411 yr Author 94. MCFLY - LOVE IS ON THE RADIO (-46 POINTS) eje0Ek_9K_o WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 1 OCC PEAK: 6 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 9 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 0 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 2 POSITIVE VOTES: 8 NEGATIVE VOTES: 21 RUN: 9 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -46 McFly return to the top 10 again this year, swiftly exiting the chart shortly afterwards as they were accustomed to doing in their heyday. The song itself is nice enough, but lacks that "hit" quality, this means that One Direction have the lowest and highest boyband song on the countdown with "Kiss You" still to come.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 93. CONOR MAYNARD - R U CRAZY (-44 POINTS) ao8Ujdx9ifM WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 2 OCC PEAK: 4 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 8 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 1 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 9 POSITIVE VOTES: 28 NEGATIVE VOTES: 35 RUN: 9-7 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -22 Conor Maynard's two 2013 T10 singles both made the top 100 on this countdown. At the time, I don't think I liked this, but it has grown on me a lot, and now it's my favourite of his singles.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 92. JAY-Z FT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - HOLY GRAIL (-41 POINTS) 6AIdXisPqHc WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 2 OCC PEAK: 7 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 8 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 4 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 5 POSITIVE VOTES: 23 NEGATIVE VOTES: 35 RUN: 8-7 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -20.5 Jay-Z & Justin appear together for the first time in this countdown, they will both reappear on "Suit & Tie" and Justin will solo on "Mirrors". I like this song, but I love Justin's section and I wish that was more of the song.
January 6, 201411 yr I forgot Holy Grail only had two weeks in the top 10! o I thought it was a bit meh at first (considering the artists), but it grew on me so much.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 91. BINGO PLAYERS FT. FAR EAST MOVEMENT - GET UP (RATTLE) (-40 POINTS) 6_BGKyAKigs WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 4 OCC PEAK: 1 (2wks) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 6 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 6 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 10 POSITIVE VOTES: 42 NEGATIVE VOTES: 47 RUN: 5-4-5-10 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -10 Another OCC #1, which had a damaging final week in the Reshuffle chart, this isn't really my kind of music. I do like the video though.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 90. DIZZEE RASCAL - BASSLINE JUNKIE (-36 POINTS) D1gl46hh3sQ WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 1 OCC PEAK: 10 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 10 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 1 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 7 POSITIVE VOTES: 8 NEGATIVE VOTES: 15 RUN: 10 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -36 The highest song in the countdown for Dizzee, the song proved to be a "back-to-basics" songs for many of Dizzee's fans echoing his previous output before he hit the mainstream. I quite like the song for what it is, but it wouldn't be on my playlist.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 89. EMINEM FT. RIHANNA - THE MONSTER (-36 POINTS) EHkozMIXZ8w WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 9 (in 2013) OCC PEAK: 1 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 6 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 21 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 35 POSITIVE VOTES: 128 NEGATIVE VOTES: 132 RUN: 3-6-6-7-5-8-6-9-7 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -4 Eminem & Rihanna's smash #1 in next, just when it was looking like we weren't having a Rihanna #1 this year, both artists still have two left ('Bezerk' & 'Rap God' for Eminem, whilst Rihanna has 'Diamonds' & 'Stay). I know a lot of people love this song but I think it's one of the most overrated of the year, and I'm glad it didn't end up too high on this list. TM finishes higher than BJ on this list as it recieved twenty-one "+5s" compared to Dizzee's one.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 88. MICHAEL BUBLÉ - IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY (-35 POINTS) 5QYxuGQMCuU WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 1 OCC PEAK: 10 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 7 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 1 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 1 POSITIVE VOTES: 6 NEGATIVE VOTES: 15 RUN: 7 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -35 Michael Bublé just managed to get his second top 10 single this year, it's standard Bublé fare; pleasant, catchy and a bit bland.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 87. FATBOY SLIM & RIVA STARR FT. BEARDYMAN - EAT SLEEP RAVE REPEAT (-33 POINTS) NIcW36J-h7Q WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 2 OCC PEAK: 3 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 7 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 4 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 10 POSITIVE VOTES: 25 NEGATIVE VOTES: 33 RUN: 7-7 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -16.5 Before this came out, a lot of people assumed this was a surefure #1, especially as the Calvin Harris remix worked so well for Florence + The Machine, the year previously, still it had to settle for #3 officially, and a place in the worst half of the countdown.
January 6, 201411 yr Sad to see Bingo Players, Dizzee and Eminem out. :( I was shocked when Eat Sleep Rave Repeat didn't get to #1 as well. It an obvious #1 since it's very commercial and had a lot of support, but I'm glad it didn't get there.
January 6, 201411 yr Author 86. SAM BAILEY - SKYSCRAPER (-33 POINTS) kh2cMMFanB8 WEEKS IN TOP TEN: 2 (in 2013) OCC PEAK: 1 (1wk) RESHUFFLE AVERAGE POSITION: 8 AMOUNT OF 5's RECIEVED: 7 AMOUNT OF -5's RECIEVED: 3 POSITIVE VOTES: 15 NEGATIVE VOTES: 32 RUN: 7-9 AVERAGE WEEKLY SCORE -16.5 The X Factor winner's single, this time a cover of Demi Lovato's (still to appear) Skyscraper. During my time as host, Little Mix's Cannonball came 40th and James Arthur's Impossible came 114th in their respective years, so Bailey finds herself in the middle. The cover of a song I don't particularly like, I admit she sings it well, but that's really all I can say. Skyscraper finishes higher than ESRR as it recieved seven "+5"s compared to Fat Boy Slim's four.
