January 7, 201411 yr I fully agree with the way fchd has done it, it's senseless to list 'Highway To Hell' as anything other than a #4 hit even if it didn't achieve that peak on its original release. The peak is its overall peak, not the peak in the year it was released. If that leads to misleading appearances then so be it :P I don't think anybody is suggesting that Highway To Hell should not be listed as a number four hit. The question is whether the 2013 (very short) run should be listed separately or, as an alternative, there should be a note to say that the peak was reached in 2013.
January 7, 201411 yr I would only suggest listing it as a different entry if it reached its peak in a new year. Otherwise it looks far too messy with numerous multiple entries everytime it reappeared in the Top 75.
January 7, 201411 yr I don't think anybody is suggesting that Highway To Hell should not be listed as a number four hit. The question is whether the 2013 (very short) run should be listed separately or, as an alternative, there should be a note to say that the peak was reached in 2013. I don't think the fact that it didn't reach its peak on its original run is particularly relevant - it's a list of songs and their peak positions, which for 'Highway To Hell' is #4. Both runs were with exactly the same recording so it'd be ridiculous to list them separately IMO. There may be slightly more justification for listing the live version separately (though I still wouldn't have done so myself as the chart runs didn't cross over). Perhaps a note saying what its 'original' peak was would be a better idea - but then would you also need to add a note saying it peaked at #40 in 2012, as that was also higher than its original run's peak?
January 7, 201411 yr Author Perhaps I could add a note if the peak position achieved was more than a certain number of weeks after the original entry? I'll try and do an example of AC/DC later tonight and see how it looks? I did have a version that included chart runs but it started looking really messy and I thought that might spring to the OCC's attention! As for the mini-bios, I don't really want to go through thousands of entries taking data *out*; that seems kind of counter-productive to what I wanted to do. You never know, by the time I get to the Zutons & Zwan I might have gotten a little less comprehensive with data, but conversely I might be spending the two years adding salient data all the time!

Highway To Hell -{4} Even though that does seem a bit odd because of the one week entries, it would make more sense if it was done for Madonna's 'Holiday'. Anyway that's just my preference, go with whatever you think is best ^_^
January 8, 201411 yr Author I'm not planning to include chart runs, just playing around with what I can get out easily (spent about three hours writing code last night and couldn't come up with much that looked right to me). Edited January 8, 201411 yr by fchd
January 8, 201411 yr I thought the bios were fine fchd, as for songs like "Highway To Hell" wouldn't it be easier to say; 01 Sep 79 Highway To Hell 4 6 wks (Peaked in 2013) Or alternatively you can post all the years a song has charted and bold the year in which it peaked. January 9, 201411 yr Author I simply don't have the information for 32000 odd singles to add details of pre-chart release, soundtrack appearances etc. Also, the "debuted at #1" thing is pretty redundant these days, the great majority of tracks that reach number 1 now do so in their first week. I know that was a rarity in 1981 but I don't want to be using different criteria for different periods. Here's another go for AC/DC - showing years for all re-entries (I hope) and noting when a record peaks if it is more than 26 weeks after it's first appearance AC/DC Anglo-Australian male vocal/instrumental group.Line up at the time of their early success was Philip Rudd, Ronald "Bon" Scott, Cliff Williams, Adam Young & Malcolm Young. January 9, 201411 yr I meant setting the notes about charting in other years in a different format (Italic/Bold etc.), but that seems to be the case now, i'm sure it wasn't when I first saw it though.

January 9, 201411 yr Author Just identified a bug which is affecting all the Christmas tunes. The rule I was using isn't picking up the re-entries in different years properly as they hang around enough to chart in the first week of a year. Bit complicated, so I'll have to do a rethink on these.
