BORING. The Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer is the only category that feels unique any more. Glad that Behind the Candelabra got some attention here, as it's ineligible at the Oscars.

From what I've seen, most of the nominations are pretty deserving. It's not really the awards fault that it's not exactly been a massively interesting/diverse year in terms of the award baity films (again, from what I've seen).

Best Actress is going to be very interesting though, personally I want Amy Adams to win, having now seen all 5 performances. It'll probably be Cate though, which is of course deserved, but this is the first Amy role where I've thoguht 'yeah, that's really, really, good'. Sandra was obv amazing too.

I really hope Philomena can pick up something. Out of the movies I've seen in the past year that the Awards will eat up (Saving Mr Banks, Philomena, American Hustle, Gravity), it's the one I enjoyed the most and would go back to, the others all feeling a tad overrated in some way imo. Judi Dench was wonderful (but I understand her category will probably go to Cate, the performance I haven't seen).

I'd rank the best actress performances thusly:

01 Amy

02 Sandra

03 Judi

04 Emma

05 Cate

But then I'm not exactly down with proper CRITERIA on how to judge that shit and truthfully I did not enjoy Blue Jasmine which probably coloured my views somewhat.

Was Her ineligible?

No, they obviously just didn't go for it. Dallas Buyers Club was the other high profile omission.

I could see Judi taking Best Actress, although Cate's been such a sweeper this season she has to be the favourite - and rightly so, at least out of these options. (I'd vainly hoped Adele Exarchopoulos would show up... :( )

Was Her ineligible?
IKR? I think this will be a bit of a "dark horse" at the Oscars!

From the nominations though I would like '12 Years A Slave' to walk away with everything they're up for (and I've not seen it yet). In particular Michael for "Best Supporting Actor". From the trailer alone he gives me goosebumps

J-Law to smash supporting actress too please, just because it's J-Law really.

I watched "Bafta" yesterday..I'm so glad that "12 Years A Slave" was the winner of "Best Film". It's one of the best movies that i've ever watched!!!

'Gravity' has exceptional directory!!! Alfonso Cuaron deserved the award!! I totally respect him..

Cate Blancett was perfect as "Blue Jasmine" and Chiwetel Ejiofor had the best male performance!!!

But i'm so disappointed with the supporting roles..I really like Jennifer Lawrence but she didn't deserve the award..She was like a caricature in "American Hustle". What an overrated film.. It has fun but it's not worthy for so many nominations..Some people / comittees want to promote David O. Russell..The same happens with Alexander Payne. We got it..

Lupita Nyong'o had the best acting!! Her performance was the most emotional in the last years!! And my second favourite was Julia Roberts..She was great in "August: Osage County"!!

Barkhad Abdi was quite good as a pirate in "Captain Phillips" but i think that Michael Fassbender was the best in this category. The latter played so well his bad role who he made you to hate him.

"Blue is the Warmest Colour" should be the winner of "Best Foreign Film". I watched "The Great Beauty" and it was a mess as a movie. I don't know why so many critics love this movie..

Gravity deserved the multiple winnings!!!

Will Poulter was the most surprising winner for me..He was hilarious in "We're The Millers" but i would have never expected him to win"EE Rising Star Award". Lupita and Lea were robbed..Plus, Adele Exarchopoulos should be nominated..

I agree about Jennifer Lawrence, I'm a fan of hers but sometimes it does feel like she's nominated/winning things because of the name rather than the acting role.

I think Will Poulter might have won it because, at first glance of the names, he is the most well known. It's the only award that is voted for by the public so it doesn't necessarily equal quality.

'Frozen' also becomes the first Disney film in it's own right (ie not Pixar) to win Best Animated Film, it's amazing to see how successful it's been.

I'm so glad that Gravity swept the board, it's a visually fantastic movie - a shame that it didn't win its only acting nomination (or Best Film) but over half of its nominations is pretty impressive regardless! I'm also happy for American Hustle's multiple wins - it's the first film I'd seen Jennifer Lawrence in but I definitely thought she deserved it, if not, then Julia Roberts would have been my second choice.

Largely predictable but deserving winners.

I actually preferred Abdi over Fassbender so really glad he took it (though both are insanely worthy of course).
