February 19, 201411 yr (wasn't being serious, merely referring to the FSR Ashvia points swap joke) oh i wasn't referring to you! just the question tom posed.
February 19, 201411 yr Author RECAP 01 Recap 02 will be posted tomorrow, or tonight at like 3am maybe. EDIT: Make that definitely tomorrow after Audacity crashed on me just as I'd finished the semi 2 recapping. Humbug. Don't have the energy to do the whole thing again right now.
February 19, 201411 yr There's room for everyone! My favourites included the classical entries and foreign songs, and obviously the German schlager! When the melody is so glorious I can happily go to Google Translate to get the understanding of the lyrics!
February 19, 201411 yr Author Despite Leww saying earlier about everything sounding the same this contest feels like the most varied in quite a while if not ever to me - if largely because there are quite a few token unusual/experimental tracks. Perhaps taking those out the remainder is all quite samey.
February 20, 201411 yr not xenophobic or anything but why would I listen to a song I don't understand? OH girl HELL to the NO you didn't just GO THERE :o

February 20, 201411 yr I will vote tonight, but I enjoyed semi 2 and having to drop some that need points. I also liked the variety of some entries, some will get points some won't. In terms of foreign language songs, the standard of lyric of some English chart pop songs is so low that it's a joy NOT to have to listen to pap and assume that the words mean something (even if they don't) Not that dance music necessarily needs lyrics at all (I love instrumentals) but it doesn't take much skill to avoid repeating the same line over and over for 4 minutes and stick in some other words. :o now, who do I have to drop from the points...doh! I can't make my mind up... B-)
February 20, 201411 yr I really despise those who have the mind frame who say they can't like an entry if it's foreign languaged. Music is universal and has no language boundaries and fair play to you if you don't like it because of how it sounds and the overall song is constructed but simply say why would anyone like a song if you don't understand is just baffling (not to mention can be questioned as being narrow minded really). Yes it's coming from someone who send exclusively foreign languaged entries to BJSC but I can confess I understand NONE of my entries yet deeply feel attached to them and adore each and every one of them.
February 20, 201411 yr i don't have a problem with foreign language entries, it's just a whole host of them have terrible production and annoying vocals. i don't usually listen to lyrics when i listen to songs unless they're a good focus / notably well-written. take for example FSR who have easily one of my favourite foreign language entries in a while, just because the production is so unforgiving and shameless. it's a song that does what it needs to do. same with skall. incredible. and indila last month as well!
February 20, 201411 yr PS. i need a big favour if possible re: editing a song down for the future if that's okay? is anyone good at that?
February 20, 201411 yr PS. i need a big favour if possible re: editing a song down for the future if that's okay? is anyone good at that? If you mean cutting a long song short I can do that on garageband as long as I know what bpm it is ^_^
February 20, 201411 yr If you mean cutting a long song short I can do that on garageband as long as I know what bpm it is ^_^ yes that KIND of, but i need certain sections all laced together because it is a VERY repetitive song. that sounds a bit more complex :(
February 20, 201411 yr regarding foreign language entries I don't mind not being able to understand them as the main selling point of a song for me is the production and vocal delivery. Plus there's always google translate if I'm really that bothered. So if I don't vote for a non-English song it's most likely not down to the language barrier. :)
February 20, 201411 yr I'm not narrow minded and you can despise me all you like Oricon, but foreign language songs as a whole just don't click with me - how can you click or connect with a song you don't understand? Do you just sing along blah blah blah la la la not knowing what the artist is singing and be like OMG that's so beautiful OMG YAS It just doesn't make sense to me, sorry for having personal taste!
February 20, 201411 yr surprised u didn't like the mystery of foreign language entries i mean their artpop could mean anything ~
February 20, 201411 yr For me, I connect with foreign songs through the music, and the voice/emotion of the singer, which is sometimes clear to see even if you don't understand the lyrics. For example, watching Caroline Af Ugglas sing Snalla Snalla at MF 2009 was incredibly powerful, even though I didn't know what the words meant because I could feel every word that she sang, and her vocals were so beautiful. But lyrics aren't generally how I personally connect with music anyway, I'm more of a melody person. Obviously I appreciate a lyrically strong song though. And then if I'm particularly interested in the words, I'll google a translation. I haven't yet for Helene's song but I did with the Eric Amarillo track that I sent, finding the main lyric to be 'will you sleep with me then, if the truth be told?' Take something like Gangnam Style too, I doubt many of the 1.2m people in the UK (or whatever) who bought it can understand any of the lyrics but the track has connected with people through the video, the novelty and catchiness of the track. There are so many things that pull me into liking a song besides just the lyrics, I personally feel like I'd close myself off to SO much good music if I didn't listen to foreign stuff. Not that I have anything against Kath or anybody else who isn't into it at all, I fully respect their reasons.
February 20, 201411 yr A pop/indie song's selling point for me is 1. The lyrics, 2. Being able to relate to it 3. Its catchiness 4. Its beat. A dance or EDM song is another story. But that's just who I am, and if Oricon wants to call that narrow-minded and despise it he should re-evaluate his definition of narrow-mindedness because this isn't the first time he can't tolerate another person's opinion/view other than his own, see Best Gaga Ballad thread~ And then referring to me in the second person :drama: TTFN~
February 20, 201411 yr I like the mystery and intrigue of foreign language entries myself, and some languages have their own unique complexities to bring to the table. For example, K-Pop always has strong melodies and gives us a lot of intricately structured and fascinating pop songs, and Italian just sounds beautiful on record (although because I understand a bit of Italian, I can usually decipher the main meaning of a track, so the language barrier isn't as prevalent, but then Italian is hardly a massive foreign language in BJSC! same goes for French though which is entered more than Italian).
February 20, 201411 yr Sorry guys. Only 6 songs worth really listening to in semi 2 for me personally~ The rest is a bunch of identical sounding indie pop (why is bjsc so indie pop?!!) with some of the most grating vocalists I've heard in a while and I rarely connect with a foreign language song also and there are so many of them too :drama: not xenophobic or anything but why would I listen to a song I don't understand? http://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki/apis.ign.com/pokemon-blue-version/b/b2/Psyduck.gif But you're a fan of Gaga babe
