Nemo better win this. It's in my top 3 best animated movies along with The Lion King I & II.

It was first announced that there would be a sequel to Monsters. Inc in 2010 and I was BEYOND excited. After all, Monsters. Inc had been my favourite childhood film and the ending of it just makes you scream 'SHOW ME MORE'. I had always expected and wanted a sequel to continue the dramatic ending but, alas, my hopes ended in shatters after it was announced it would be a prequel. That disappointment clouded some of my judgements before watching the film, as Boo was partly essential to my enjoyment of the first film. However, after watching it, I did really enjoy seeing the development of the relationship between Mike and Sulley. It was a nice take to see Mike as the main protagonist as well, rather than it being Sulley again and nothing is more adorable than little Mike! A wide range of new monsters were introduced, who were all mainly great, even if there were no main particular standouts apart from Dean Abigail but it was nice to see certain glimpses/cameos from some of the characters in the original film. If we look at the story, it is a bit generic in terms of the underdogs competing in a competition with an unlikely paring but a lot of fun was contained in the film and there were a few nice surprises along the way, especially the ending of it. The placing of this also means that Buzzjack is still in line with the critic's opinions!

Here's what you had to say:

The main issue with this is no Roz basically, well that and the fact the story is both predictable and uninteresting. It's still a very interesting bunch of characters though so was an enjoyable enough watch, but not something I'll likely ever go back to.
It was ok, but not a patch on the 1st one. Probably not one I'd watch again out of choice.

I only watched Monsters' University for the first time the other week and whilst I enjoyed it, the plot is far too similar to Pitch Perfect () - my favourite film of last year - to find it incredibly enjoyable.

If the Pixar filmography was an album, then this would probably be the filler track, not bad but not particularly great either. It generally seems to be the forgotten film and it's never really a film that I'm excited to rewatch, although I will happily watch if it it's on. The Paris setting is portrayed fantastically and it looks amazing, as does all the food. However, the actual story sags in a few places even if it does have an interesting premise. Oh and we finally manage to break the correlation with the critic's choices as if it were up to them, A Bug's Life would be sitting in 10th place instead!

Here's what you have to say:

A very good idea, I just think it's a tad oddly paced and that lets it down. Love the final scenes with Anton Ego and the showdown over the titular dish.
I feel like this had so much more potential, there were a few little things that let it down but it was pretty good
Good, but not quite as memorable as the others
Perfectly enjoyable. Just not that memorable.

I honestly write these commentaries before I see the comments, it's funny how my opinions match others!

Never liked Ratatouille, just didn't get it. Too bad it's out way after the near-flawless "Cars" series :puke2:
Glad it managed to go top 10, by far not the worst
And ginger Scottish girls are a hot BJ topic?
Janet Devlin has a couple of fans on here sniffffff.

Not surprised at the results so far. 'Cars' gets far too much hate though. It's so lovely (not seen the sequel but I know people who love the first and agree with the critics that it's by far the worst thing Pixar have done). 'Brave' is definitely my least favourite Pixar film (and I actually don't "hate" it!) so I'm pleased to see it's out already and pretty low too.

Definitely here for a 'Finding Nemo' win though. But I am expecting one of 'Toy Story' 1 or 3 to win.

'Ratatouille' is so lovely. Should really be much higher but I have to say I expected its placing. Massively under-rated.

Gutted at it being placed so low (i'll probably say this about every film to come now, and then go on to moan about the winner too).

Remy is definitely one of Pixar's most lovable <3

Ratatouille is charming. It's actually the first film I've seen on the list too - I didn't vote for the others as I haven't seen them, so that's a pretty disappointing placing.

Hope Up! manages to place much higher, but I doubt it. Really don't get the love for Finding Nemo - wasn't worth a second watch.

Omg, BRAVE. 12th :(
Brave totally deserves to be that low, even in an AVERAGE cinematic cannon it would be decidedly average but compared to the largely glorious Pixar output it's totally lacking.

So we come to the second Pixar film to ever be released and surely that should define it's status as one of the best? Sadly, it has come to be slightly pushed aside (in terms of references in later films as well as talk of the film) and overshadowed by some of the later films. Some of this may be down to the originality of it, while many of the Pixar films have never really seen other films that are similar in terms of story or the focus of the film, Antz was released at a similar time by the rival studio, Dreamworks. There has been controversy over who had the idea first but it does seem to be in Pixar's favour that it was their idea. I've never really been a big fan of bugs but, while it isn't a standout in Pixar's catalogue, it is still a good film with another interesting story that is executed fairly well. I do remember being scared by the grasshoppers when I was younger though :kink:

YOUR VIEWS:

They might not be very similar storywise, but I always think of Antz when I watch this and I always think 'It's better'.
Really quite underrated these days
It's very good just not one of my personal favourites
A Bug's Life really lost out from beiong sandwiched in between the two Toy Story films, and the whole Antz thing. It's a shame as as a stand-alone film, it's really great. So, so underrated these days.

I just noticed that resemblance too!

There may be spoilers btw in the commentary but everyone should have seen the films that are left, so it shouldn't be a problem x

We've now come to a point where the main favourites are the ones left and so, unfortunately, that means that The Incredibles has to leave us in 8th place. These days, you can't escape for superheroes, with the Marvel franchise's omnipresence boosting what The Dark Knight did for superhero films. It would be a complete lie to state that superheroes weren't popular when The Incredibles was released, as you had both the Spiderman and X-Men series, but they didn't have as big an impact amongst kids (and adults) as they do today. It was nice to see Pixar have their take on the superhero genre before the big explosion seen today and it became the first Pixar film to actually focus on humans after we had toys, bugs, monsters and fish! Overall, the idea may have been a bit more generic than some of this past endeavours but, out of this, an original and compelling story was created out of this. The story does include mass genocide of superheroes which does show a darker side to Pixar (although it's not something we hadn't previously seen before, see Sid's Frankensteiness toys) and the fact that we see 'Buddy' before he turns evil perhaps makes this idea even more disturbing than at first glance of watching the film as a child. It's nice to see a child's film focus on the entire family as a unit which perhaps, although I may be mistaken, isn't something that is focused on too heavily within animated films, at least not with humans anyway. And just a quick mention for possibly the best Pixar supporting character, Edna Mode. As we are in the middle of a phase of Pixar sequels, this is the most obvious next choice of film to generate one but I don't see it occurring anytime soon as there isn't that much new ground to cover and it perhaps is too obvious.

Here's what you think:

EDNA MODE. Probably the most clever Pixar movie too, at least in terms of the pop culture references and satirical moments.
The Incredibles is my fav, I love it!!!
(Not aged that well), though I do have very find memories of it
Right up near the top for me. I enjoyed this so much more than I remembered when I revisited it recently.
The Incredibles = my childhood
