LOVE that song. and from that i am instantly drawn to the word 'destroy'. how to destroy angels is a side project of trent reznor of nine inch nails, who had one of the most iconic music videos in history with 'happiness in slavery', which was banned pretty much everywhere. still haunts me until this day.

Avoiding the obvious we'll go from Trent Reznor to another man who shares his name with a river, Nile Rodgers. His most celebrated work was with Chic but he also performed on this

loving the variety of choices! Several are new to me, and I'm downloading Ladytron any moment now, cheers!

I was about to do a link to the following but Suedehead2 beat me to Trent Reznor (Dragon tattoo cover version), so being very very tenuous, Higher Love is a whole lotta love. Whole lotta Love is Led Zep. Sorry....

Immigrant Song!

'Immigrant Song' starts (after the screaming, anyway) with the lyrics, "We come from the land of the ice and snow" . Something else that comes from the land of the ice and snow are Polar bears which are pretty super, furry animals. Super Furry Animals also come from Wales...and here they are with a record that inexplicably failed to reach the top 10 in 2001.

Also from Wales is Andy Fairweatherlow, who was a guitarist for Eric Claptons band for a while.

Eric Clapton's nickname is Slow Hand, this is also the name of a 1981 hit by The Pointer Sisters;

Juxtaposed - a popchartfreak number one, shoulda been in the real world too. Eric Clapton doesn't pop up on my computer :(

From one set of singing sisters to another, courtesy of major man of 2013 Nile Rodgers, and so good it makes the charts every 10 years or so.

It's also my theme tune

Lost In Music by Sister Sledge

Nile Rodgers of Chic recently had a huge hit with Daft Punk, heres one of their earlier hits

Daft Punk are known for their reluctance to show their faces. An earlier French act who also made a habit of appearing in disguise were Space.

Another group called Space had a hit called Ballad Of Tom Jones, That singer had a hit with art of noise

Art and noise are two things that folk with a string of drug habits, a rather selective intolerance of wheat/dairy, a vocal that's not as strong as they would ideally like it to be and an overly quirky sense of dress have been trying to merge together for many a decade. We'll skip straight past the Gagas and head instead to the original icon, howdy Mr Warhol.

Lou Reed of Velvet Underground had a Walk On The Wild Side, the doo de doos were sung by a female group called Thunderthighs, in demand on tracks for Mott The Hoople and others. Lynsey De Paul wrote a critically acclaimed (and now utterly obscure) minor hit gem for them in 1974...

Central Park Arrest!

From Thunderthighs to rain, specifically the rain that always gets Travis. One of my favourite songs from the era.

Edited by Leonardo

Why did it always rain on Travis? That was the question. Was it because they lied when they were seventeen? Probably not. The real answer was the Doctor Blind was never a fan of their jangly soft indie ruining what was a fantastic britpop & indie scene at the end of the 90s... so when he got his first weather related job advising Fran Healy as to what the weather would be like it suddenly became a common sight to see Fran dashing to the nearest shelter in an ill advised pair of shorts and flip flops in January.

Anyway. In the assumption that Fran did in fact do some horrendous thing whilst he was 17, here is an anthem to help the girls at the time through the ordeal.

Kevin Drew is a member of Broken Social Scene. One Kevin that drew a lot of attention for his 1999 LP 'My Beauty' was Kevin Rowland...but here he is in more successful times with Dexy's...and that infamous Top of the Pops appearance.

From the "Runners" of DMR to the gorgeous "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush

Great choices, and leonardo love Kate too, sorry I missed your earlier post - I shouldve checked and redone mine! Just noticed your edit

It's also great to see the post is influencing the UK singles chart, as Suedehead2's entry for Roberta Flack gets her back in the charts this week B-)

Running Up That Hill was a centrepiece of the 2012 Olympic Games ceremony. As was...

Our House by Madness

One of Madness's many top ten hits as It Must Be Love. A lot of people have expressed surprise when they found out it was a cover version so here is the original

I do, of course, claim all the credit for Roberta Flack returning to the chart

Labi Siffre's other most famous song is (Something Inside) So Strong, which was covered by The Flying Pickets. Who shot to fame after covering another song. So here's Yazoo's "Only You"
