March 17, 201411 yr Crazy Frog would easily be #1 again if it was released now. I remember at the time when it was out originally loads of people used to have it as their ringtones and the Jamster advert used to come on TV every 5 minutes  along with Sweety The Chick.
March 17, 201411 yr In addition to many of the track alredy listed, I'm adding from the 90s: - Right Said Fred - Deeply Dippy - Peter Andre - I Feel You
March 22, 201411 yr What's stopping any of the 1,000+ being a hit today? Even the stuff from the 1950s - let's say someone on the X Factor absolutely storms an incredible rendition of Al Martino's 'Here In My Heart', gets millions of views on Youtube and in the absense of their version available everyone streams/downloads the original. Result - a song from 1952 is #1 again. Looking at the entire history of number 1 singles, with enough marketing/hype or general exposure any of them bar three* could easily hit the top again today. Look at Let's Get Ready to Rhumble last year - if that can hit the top, then so can, I dunno, 'My Old Man's a Dustman' or There's No One Quite Like Grandma. The only three that couldn't? Gary Glitter's.

That wasn't the question though, it was to address the hypothetical point that if these past #1s hadn't been released and were marketed now as 'new' releases how many would you imagine even becoming hits? Of course most #1s could easily return to the top because of nostalgia/fan buys etc. but that wasn't the point of the thread.
March 22, 201411 yr That's fair enough then, I wasn't sure. In which case disregard my last post completely as I'd say almost everything before about the year 2000 :P As mentioned earlier it's perhaps easier to list what would be a hit today, the whole sound of music - especially pop and dance - is constantly evolving. Maybe it's just me getting older, but I don't think there's been as much major change in the last decade as there was previous - if you released an 50s song in the 60s, a 60s song in the 70s etc it would sound like it was from a different planet. But there's hits from 9 or 10 years ago that I think would barely need any modification - Call On Me, Push the Button etc - to work today. I think the last #1 in the 2000s to sound remotely '1990s' was Cha Cha Slide in 2004, but even then I think it was originally recorded in that decade anyway. Whereas the first #1 of the 2000s to sound '2010s' was probably Just Dance.

March 22, 201411 yr You can't just go around making things up, you know. Yeah no but she can. Someone started playing Groove Jet last nit and I bugged him till he turned it off. How dare that man decide to keep VB off the top spot and stand in the way of history with her being the 5th Spice to get a no.1. The only solo Spice without one :snif:
March 22, 201411 yr Victoria is vocally on the same level as someone like Holly Valance, Rachel Stevens or Lisa Scott-Lee.
March 22, 201411 yr Victoria is vocally on the same level as someone like Holly Valance, Rachel Stevens or Lisa Scott-Lee. Vocally maybe but certainly not physically :P Another suggestion from me is: Sandi Thom - I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker
