March 12, 201411 yr Author  Umi's Chart highlights:'Happy' selling 490k this week marks the highest weekly sales total since Katy Perry's 'Roar' sold 557k in its début week. 490k marks the 8th best non-début sales week of the digital era."Happy" snares the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award for a seventh consecutive week, the best streak since "Lines" linked a record 10 weeks (in a row and total) last year. "Happy" crowns the Radio Songs chart for a second week with a 14% surge to 187 million all-format audience impressions.'Let It Go', receiving airplay only from Adult Contemporary, is the first song to go top 10 with airplay only from that format since the American Idol winner of 2006.'Happy' has a 60% points lead over 'Dark Horse' at #2 and the gap is growing rapidly as 'Dark Horse' fades on all formats.Digital track sales this past week totaled 23.04 million downloads, up less than 1% compared with last week (22.99 million) and down 9% stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (25.4 million).Year-to-date track sales are at 247.1 million, down 11% compared with the same total at this point last year (278.8 million).Source: Billboard Â

March 12, 201411 yr What happened to give Pharrell that boost? Was this the first full week of the grammy boost? Crazy to think he was so close to 500k, I can't recall a higher sales week thatn that  Perhaps gift card week 2011 (I remember 'Sexy And I Know It' getting a crazy sales peak then). Nice to see Idina finally crack the top 10 - I've not actually heard the song and I'm sure I wouldn't be a fan at all but it has been a very big hit, certainly too popular to not have a top 10 peak.
March 12, 201411 yr Author What happened to give Pharrell that boost? Performed on the Oscars. Same for Idina, and there'll be a boost for U2 as well.  Â
March 12, 201411 yr I'm kinda surprised U2 weren't top 10 on digital songs actually. I know they dropped off massively but they were sitting in the top 10 for a good while.
March 13, 201411 yr Author  Coldplay (Magic) debuts at #24, Naughty Boy & Sam Smith (La La La) are up to #71, U2 re-enters at 84 (on the back on their Oscar performance) and Iggy & Charlie XCX (Fancy) debut at #88. Â
March 13, 201411 yr Great debut for 'Magic'! Instantly their 6th highest peaking single in the US (behind 'Viva La Vida' (#1), 'Speed Of Sound' (#8), 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' (#14), 'Paradise' (#15) and 'Princess Of China' (#20)). I never realised that 'Paradise' didn't even outpeak 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' in the USA, I'm sure it must have been a bigger hit overall though.
March 13, 201411 yr Still no Disclosure. Next week! It is a great start for 'Magic', their popularity in the US seems so very solid and I'm hoping this can do pretty well in the long run. Can't believe Timber is already at 3.6 million :o It never really felt like it was *that* big a hit.
March 13, 201411 yr Author Iggy :D get that Hot 100 debut! Must be getting a lot of streaming points from the video. Â
March 13, 201411 yr It's nice to see Charli on the Hot 100 again but it is strange that 'Fancy' is doing so well when 'Change Your Life' did so little. How is a song like 'Fancy' clicking with people more? :drama: I don't get it.
March 13, 201411 yr ^ The impact of the video I'd imagine. Pop-culture nostalgia etc. And regarding 'Paradise', the last US total I could find is from September 2012 at which point it was at 2.6m. I never knew it was such a big hit there :o.
March 13, 201411 yr Must be getting a lot of streaming points from the video. It went #30 on iTunes at some point and stayed in the top 100 for most of the week though.Â
March 13, 201411 yr Yeah, Fancy got very high on iTunes, and a lot of Youtube streams as well (and the US is her biggest market in terms of streaming). Awesome to see Turn Down For What climbing! :D Surprised to see Trophies so high. I wonder what boosted it this week. Same with The Devil is a Lie, but I know that's down to the album release.
March 13, 201411 yr Chart highlights posted, and the lead 'Happy' has over #2 is beginning to remind me a bit of the ridiculous dominance 'Harlem Shake' had for its brief period at #1 :o Obviously it's nowhere near *that* ridiculousness but a 60% lead over 'Dark Horse' is crazy.
March 13, 201411 yr ^ I remember Blurred Lines had a similar lead over whatever was #2 at the time (Get Lucky and We Can't Stop iirc). It's really rare for a song to be so far ahead, and this likely means Happy will be #1 for 10+ weeks imo.
March 14, 201411 yr ^ I remember Blurred Lines had a similar lead over whatever was #2 at the time (Get Lucky and We Can't Stop iirc). It's really rare for a song to be so far ahead, and this likely means Happy will be #1 for 10+ weeks imo. I agree with this, currently nothing looks like any sort of competition, even 'All of Me' is clearly never getting within touching distance. No major releases coming any time soon and most songs in the top 10 are fading hits... On an entirely unrelated note, 'Unconditionally' crossed a million sales this week
March 14, 201411 yr ^ You're right, there's no upcoming threat at all ('All Of Me' being the biggest) :o. High-time for an Adele genre-straddling smash lead single, I think.
