Posted March 14, 201412 yr As of the most recent chart, 'Happy' has been at #1 for 3 weeks in total. With no significant threats looming, how long can he spend at #1?
March 15, 201412 yr Author SALES, RADIO & STREAMING stats 1) Pharrell Williams - Happy - Digital Songs - 490,000 (+19%) - Radio Songs - 187 million all-format audience impressions (+14%) - Streaming Songs - 8 million U.S. streams (+20%) - On-Demand Songs - 3.2 million US streams (+28%) 2) Katy Perry featuring Juicy J - Dark Horse - Digital Songs - 182,000 (-14%) - Radio Songs - 153 million (+1%) - Streaming Songs - 8.9 million US streams (-20%) - On-Demand Songs - 2.7 million US streams (-6%) 3) John Legend - All Of Me - Digital Songs - 210,000 (+6%) - Radio Songs - 107 million (+22%) - Streaming Songs - 5.7 million (+9%) 4) Jason Derulo featuring 2 Chainz - Talk Dirty - Digital Songs - 195,000 (-10%) - Radio Songs - 93 million (+7%) 5) Bastille - Pompeii - Digital Songs - 117,000 (-8%) - Radio Songs - 122 million (+11%) - 'Happy' has a 60% point lead over #2 and is rising in points at a quicker pace than any other in the top 5 (of which the only significant gainer is 'All Of Me'). With no huge releases on the horizon barring a big surprise, how long can Pharrell extend his #1 run?
March 15, 201412 yr I can't see anything overtaking it any time soon, besides maybe that #selfie song. I'd say at least 4 more weeks, totalling at 6, but I wouldn't be surprised if it managed over 10
March 15, 201412 yr  I think with the airplay being so high and continuing to rise, it doesn't matter if sales fall off. Blurred Lines managed 12 weeks. I think Pharrell could easily manage 10 weeks. Â
March 15, 201412 yr Yeah I was thinking 10. It's one of those songs that is really massive everywhere
March 15, 201412 yr Author Looking at all the different factors separately, I can see it being #1 digitally for 5-6 weeks. I think the week it sold 403k would have been its "natural" sales peak were it not for the promo that followed, so I suspect he'll quickly fall back to that level and continuously drop from there. However it is still a huge sales level and nothing I can see will match it barring something coming out of nowhere, which I'm banking on at that time. On radio however it could easily be #1 for three months from here. So... considering it's already had 3 weeks, I'm going to go with 12-13 weeks at #1 and possibly the longest run at #1 since 'I Gotta Feeling'. Insane stuff :drama:
March 15, 201412 yr I'm also going to go with 12-13 weeks but honestly wouldn't be surprised if it has even longer than that. To have such an enormous lead over #1 before its airplay has even peaked and 3 weeks at the top already behind it, with no other realistic challengers that we currently know exist, is pretty much a sure sign it's not shifting for a while yet.
