Madonna and Kylie are both tied on most number 2's (records that peaked at 2 without making 1, and ignoring remixes - Crazy For You - which did it twice) - either 10 solo or 11 including duets. You might argue Madonna is marginally more unlucky, as the same record missed twice, though she's damn lucky that Hanky Panky clawed it's way to 2, so I discount that and say it's a tie....
I wonder what the record is for groups? I thought of these groups which had a few: Boyzone had 6 singles which peaked at #2, while Steps, S Club 7 and Girls Aloud all had 5 #2 hits each!
So the OCC have confirmed the sales total we had for 'Especially For You' is correct - it is just crawling extremely slowly towards the million mark. It'll get there eventually I'm sure.

The key word is *eventually* of course.

Trouble with EFY is that it's very much of its time and as such won't trickle sell very well. Of course if the two of them ever decided to reprise the song on a major TV show, it would probably make up that 3k deficit in a few hours.....

Unfortunately that seems to apply to Kylie's whole back catalogue. :(

Cliff has 10 or 11 number 2s, doesn't he?

yes you're right, 11, and as none were duets you might say he wins - although the last one was also Move It (also his first number 2) as part of a double A xmas effort, so really 10 and a half

3 way tie on 10 and a half? B-)

But does her back catalogue really sell markedly less well than her contemporaries from the era she was having her biggest hits?

Take Madonna for instance, in the current iTunes top 1500 she has just one entry 'Like a Prayer' at no.1347.

I honestly thought it had been announced a million seller already. And they DID reprise it not so long ago at the Stock Aitken Waterman 25 years thing that had to be rearranged in December after the original venue was flooded in mid summer. Footage of that reprisal did the rounds online, if not on TV, and must have helped them gain a fair few more sales.

It seems to depend somewhat on genre - pre-download pop seems to trickle-sell far worse than rock, for example.

3K for "Especially For You" surely can't be that hard. Kylie & Jason need to perform it on public TV SOMEWHERE.
She's doing it on Sports Relief next week, though the duet partner is a surprise.
Guess who said it... You're very much a hater yourself too -_- BTW he's not a hater, he just don't like those two songs, what's here the problem?

Because he repeat it so many times, maybe even more, than I did against Loreen. :)

Oh shut up you raving lunatic, it's been nowhere that bad. Don't exaggerate.

If you're going to start an argument take it to PM please.
Who else has just seen the Sport Relief performance of Especially For You, with two Jasons for the price of one! Surely a few thousand sales will be made now and it'll go to the magic million!
