That said, it's worth remembering that Kylie hasn't ever been a "constantly #1" artist

And equally worth remembering that George Michael is one.

I would say it is more George still garners interest from the general public (especially the older generation) more than Kylie, than his fanbase being loyal and big. I think far more general people are open to a George Michael album than a Kylie one. She has become so niche within her gay market.

And he isn't?

I'm disappointed Kylie isn't number one in albums but not entirely surprised. The sales figures quoted on here for Kylie and George aren't great, suggesting Kylie will be lucky to clear 30k by the end of the week. Aphrodite shifted around 80k during the first week in comparison.

No. To me he is like Elton John, someone who still is a name to get the general public of a certain age interested. You don't sell 16k copies of a live album first day unless you are reaching out to more than just hardcore fans.

Have you forgotten all the negative press he's had the last decade? Only person in his position who had it worse was Boy George!

It hasn't really affected things though, he was still invited to perform at the Olympics, he is still playlisted on radio 2.

Team, there's only 2K difference. Who knows, she could still probably get to #1?!

Highly doubtful. If she was to have any hope at all of #1 she would have been #1 in the first mids with a large lead. She's going to be a lot more frontloaded than George I would think.

I think 13k of sales for Kylie Minogue album is pretty damn good for pre-order/1 day of sales...

it wasn't released on Sunday so this figure is purely Monday/pre-order sales

plus Kylie sells Physicals and will do OK from supermarkets/HMV/other record stores where fans don't pre-order these days.... plus promo at end of week.....

I keep saying she is going for a little bit of longevity....

So exactly the same as nearly every other new release ever?

It's not a bad total by any means, though quite significantly down on her last album.

I'm quite disappointed with the Kylie album. She has no hope beyond her fanbase with this I'm afraid.

Mr. President (a bonus track) is wonderful though. In fact both bonus tracks are.

All The Lovers gave Aphrodite big 1st week sales plus lots of promo.......

she hasn't done any promo yet!! relax.........

Into The Blue will sell more this weekend and next weekend, while Kiss Me Once will sell well over the next few weeks..

It is also worth noting that Kylie's first day sales of Kiss Me Once would have given her 6th spot in last weeks cart.....

If Pharrell who has sold over 1,000,000 copies of his lead single sells 69k of 1s week albums then Kylie selling 25k of Into The Blue ...................
