LXXVI: Jai Wolf - Indian Summer



Despite summer only just starting, Florina have skipped ahead a few months with our next entry, Indian Summer. It has Hindi vocals (© Bré) and, as the title suggests, features some gorgeous Indian inspirations.

LXXVI: Jai Wolf - Indian Summer

Well, continuing Florina's trend of #top10orbottom10, 'Indian Summer' somehow managed to sneak into the Top 10 at No. 10! Thanks to everyone who voted, especially Terra Avium, Land of DW and Republic of Adonia for giving Jai top points! We look forward to the next contest in Aquafina, although tensions will be high following the war that occured, as we look to qualify three times in a row for the first time.

LXXVII: Mabel - Know Me Better



Going for our first female vocalist since George Maple, the therefore appropriately titled Mabel is our next entry and also gives me Jessie Ware vibes when I hear her voice. 'Know Me Better' is a slick indie-pop R&B track and it should really hit you after a number of listens.

To help celebrate our 20th main contest, Florina have announced plans to release a special compilation of all our entries. Containing nearly as many DNQs as Qs, it's the only way to get your hands on the essential songs of BJSC. Unfortunately 'That's What I Call Florina' only entered at #13 on the reggae charts here in Patvia :(

Now That's What I Call Florina sold 146 copies in Danaelanda including streaming. The tracks 'Circles' and 'Indian Summer' in particular were popular~

Joedonia are having a bit of a financial crisis so it doesn't take much to get into the top ten. NTWICF entered at #9 in the compilations chart. I myself just cherry picked Circles.

Oh dear, the unforeseen flop of Mabel must have harmed sales, serving Aston Merrygold teas with her high placing on the tracklist. What happened to all those iTunes pre-orders in Patvia in particular, No. 13 in the Reggae charts means we only just beat EllaAid. :(

 

When we win next month, sales will be through the roof, as everyone will want a taste of our history. :magic:

It was the lack of promotion that did it Froot :( But Florina hype for BJSC 78 has kicked it back into the top 100 on iTunes at #99 :magic:

LXXVIII: Transviolet - Bloodstream



To celebrate the release and success of 'Badlands', Florina have opted for a very Halsey-inspired entry this month with a more rocky edge to the chorus. We hope it won't go the same undeserving way as Mabel but who can even predict these days.

LXXIX: Grace Mitchell - Your Design



Florina tried to send this month's entry into the last contest but alas, Fljótavík had a higher budget and so secured Grace to represent them instead. There was no bad blood though as she was able to secure our 18 points with the fantastic 'Jitter'. After finding some spare money due to a spike in 'Now That's What I Call Florina' sales, we have been able to have Grace represent us this time round. We feel a lot more confident with this entry than we have done for a while, even without looking at Grace's success last time round.

UK Chart Near Misses - BJSC Edition: Aiden Grimshaw - Curtain Call



The theme of the latest spin-off allowed us to send one of our favourite underrated songs of the last few years, 'Curtain Call' by Aiden Grimshaw. Thankfully, others felt the same and helped us secure our third BJSC related Top 10 of the year!

Our Departure from Regular Participation

And this is it. Since our debut in August 2013, we have now sent 23 entries into the main contest, only sitting out of a contest once. Now is the time that the regular participation ends and, from next year, we'll probably sit out from a number of contests, it could be all of them or we may participate in most of them (highly unlikely though). The reasoning behind this is due to a number of issues, the main one is probably lack of time next year and slight fatigue but a number of other issues too. I will very much miss discovering so many great songs and I'll maybe try to still listen to entries from some of my favourite countries. Thanks for people's support for Florina over the past two years! As I said, I will probably be dipping in/out of contests and spin-offs but this is the end of entering everything~

LXXX: berhana - Janet



This month, we've gone for another risk as that has seemed to give us our two best performing entries this year! Hoping to finally get three qualifiers in a row, is berhana with 'Janet'. It's very Frank Ocean sounding so is the perfect song to listen to whilst still waiting for that second album and it contains a very interesting sample from one of the best TV shows of all time. Yes, the song is based around Janet Hubert, aka the original Vivian Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Janet and Will had a lot of difficulties when working on the show, leading to her firing and another actress taking over her role. (The original Aunt Viv >>>)

BJSC: Halloween



We very much enjoyed the latest BJSC spin-off with it's Halloween song. It meant we were able to send the opening sequence from one of the best Halloween/Christmas movies (strike off the one you disagree with) and it performed moderately well, coming in at 22nd with 97 points.

LXXXVIII: Foreign Air - Echo



Florina are BACK (for an unknown amount of time) with our first entry since BJSC LXXX in the form of 'Echo' by Foreign Air. The catchy indie-pop song managed to qualify last night and we look forward to see how well it performs in the final!
