I really can't see CL going Top 5 at all, even might struggle to go Top 10. Bar a few heavy fans (hi Bal), I haven't seen the hype translating onto anywhere else in Buzzjack.

tbf what DOES have hype. we see a whole selection of stale n tired odds but there is genuinely such little level of discussion over what is essentially very good music.

 

where is the soulll

it's a good point - all discussion is about who's going to win, rather than who's put in great music, or interesting choices. I'm not remotely bothered about winning (fairly obviously, though I am surprised sometimes that great subtle tracks like Ariana & The Rose don't have wider appeal!) but I am interested in great music - hearing it and promoting it.

 

In terms of a quality pop record with potential mainstream appeal I still say Jamvale is being under-estimated. Buzzjack has a very poor record when it comes to commercial quality pop songs (witness Lorde and Martin Garrix), there seems to be an inbuilt bias towards diva pop, clubby workouts or wistful indie EDM. Nothing wrong with those of course, just an observation....

I'm not sure commercial appeal = quality, indeed I'm not even sure there's a great deal of correlation between the two at all.

 

Anyway re. Discussion I think its fairly obvious most people want to win, its the nature of any competition. Finding/introducing others to amazing music is obv a bonus on top of that too, but whatever the purpose I think people should just try and ENJOY it. There's been so much moaning of late in this forum and it's getting ever so tedious

commercial music isn't necessarily production-line same-old same-old, it just means Popular. Popular quality music is the staple of chart music and it's ever-changing and surprising, but you always get the copycat bandwagon jumpers that in the end kill off any particular genre as the next gen of kids rebel against their older siblings fave type of music or acts and look for "their" music.

 

Of course, non-commercial doesn't mean quality or lacking in quality any more than chart music does, sometimes they get the breaks sometimes they don't quite fit at the time, but I always want great music to be Popular music, who wouldn't :lol:

not too easy to call the winner this time, but for now i think the amount of love for Eledan's track will *just* win out, Peking Duk will obviously be up there, and Wonky is SURELY too amazing to finish anywhere lower than 3rd? (if not i'll be having some words with these voters x). Jamvale's song is quite the slow burner, and probably the dark horse of the contest~
