100. SETTING SUN- The Chemical Brothers (226,000)

http://missssskind.no.sapo.pt/dbimg/ChemicalBrothersSettingSun.jpg

YEAR: 1996

PEAK POSITION: 1

Providing more than 90% of its airplay, Radio 1 can be thanked in the main for making this No 1, or more exactly Noel Gallagher. This track dated back some years before it was reworked by The Chemical Brothers into this hit which was in essence another tribute to Oasis selling power in 1996, further evidence provided by the fact that the group had never progressed beyond No 17 previously..

99. GIVE IT UP- GOODMEN (229,000)

PEAK POSITION: 5

Ah Dutch dance- where would we be without it? Even back in the 90s the likes of 2 Unlimited taught us early on that it could be commercial gold and this lot found themselves in the charts with bigger hits than this in other guises. “Give It Up” was of course sampled heavily on Simply Red’s 1995 No 1 “Fairground” and the duo Zki & Dobre are also known under the aliases Chocolate Puma “I Wanna Be U” (2001) and also Riva “Who Do You Love Now” (2001).

The footage of the video for "Give it up" had been previously used in Cappella's "U Got 2 Know"

Good start all round.

Setting Sun, of course as you'd expect from anything involving a Gallagher brother, pays real tribute to the Beatles sounding very similar to 'Tomorrow Never Knows' but with a real dancefloor sensibility.

And I didn't know The Goodmen had charted under different names...actually I didn't know anything about them. Hope the next 98 are good uns too!

Setting Sun  Its non-number 1-esque chart run was shameful, such a brilliant track that I think is a lot better remembered these days. Wonder if Block Rockin' Beats made it in? I'd imagine not as I think it was even more front-loaded.

I think I'm gonna like this countdown.

98. ON A RAGGA TIP- SL2 (230,000)

http://www.jaren90muziek.nl/data/toamgmjm/front.jpg

YEAR: 1992

PEAK POSITION: 2

Otherwise known as Slipmatt & Lime the due scored 3 UK hits before splitting in late 93 of which this is by far the biggest. It was only denied the top spot by Right Said Fred and KWS when it spent three weeks in the runner up spot that May, one of their dancers Kelly Overett went on to be the vocalist with Cappella who we may hear from later.

97.RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW- Fatboy Slim (230,000)

YEAR: 1999

PEAK POSITION: 2

By the summer of 99 Norman Cook and Zoe Ball were regular tabloid fodder and in “You’ve Come A Long Way Baby” the Fatboy Slim brand had officially made it in the UK charts. Part of the big beat movement it was widely tipped to make the top but was only beaten by the debut Westlife single and the fact that the parent album was already over the double platinum mark.

96. NOW THAT WE FOUND LOVE- Heavy D & The Boyz (230,000)

YEAR: 1991

PEAK POSITION: 2

Knocking around since the mid 80s the group had the grand total of 2 chart songs to their credit (and both of those peaking outside the top 60) before this cover O’Jays track in 1991. Heavy D died back in 2011 and the other surviving member DJ Eddie F has gone on to become one time vice president of La Face records and also Motown later on in the decade.

'On A Ragga Tip' One of those songs that I always loved but didn't know the name of, I was so happy when I discovered what it was called.

'Right Here Right Now' is a classic too.

On A Ragga Tip and Right Here, Right Now are great inclusions  Great to see this chart happening, thanks Geeza! :D I would've thought SL2 would've sold more considering it spent 8 weeks in the top 10, if only sales in 92 weren't so bad :(

I am gonna mark them all out of 10 as we go along.

Setting Sun - 6 - always thought it was too harsh and not nearly inventive enough compared to what they were well capable of achieving.

Give It Up - 7 - good.

On a Ragga Tip - 10 - brilliant and only seems to get better with time. Sampled mostly from the same song - which slightly tarnishes it's brilliant.

Right Here. Right Now - 8 - it used to be a 10 but I overplayed it in 1999. Hasn't stood up as much as Rockafella Skank.

Now That We Found Love - 7 - good, love the background music to this. I wasn't really expecting this in this charts. Didn't think it was dance but I guess it could be considered dance.
