May 4, 201411 yr I've posted a thread in the Dance forum to help decide whether some of the borderline songs should be included or not Please take a look and vote http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=165959
May 4, 201411 yr I think these should've been on there for sure: Artful Dodger ‘Re-Rewind’ Cornershop ‘Brimful Of Asha’ Eiffel 65 ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee)’ Mr Oizo ‘Flat Beat’ Shanks & Bigfoot ‘Sweet Like Chocolate’ Whigfield ‘Saturday Night’ Doop 'Doop' I can understand omitting Aqua and Cher I suppose.
May 5, 201411 yr Thanks Gezza. Since I've commented on every single track up until now... ATB - absolutely horrible. I remember sitting on a bus coming back from T in the Park on Monday morning and the local radio were playing it as it had just gone to number one...I just went on and on about how bad it was. I hated EBTG when it was out, but time has been kind to it and it sounds a lot better to me now. Really have no idea why Run DMC vs Jason Nevins was so popular - but I think the video had a lot to do with it. The import version was in the shops for about a year before the full release - I think I remember playing it on the turntables in HMV in Glasgow and put it back on the shelf as it did nothing for me. Another omission, even though I hate it, is Eiffel 65's Blue. Edited May 5, 201411 yr by richie
May 5, 201411 yr I agree - ATB 9pm was naff at the time and sounds ten times worse in 2014. There was so much better trance tracks at time that didn't come anywhere near as big as this, such as Veracocha "Carte Blanche" and System F "Out Of The Blue" but, still, joe public get it spectacularly wrong quite often! Anyway, another stellar piece of work from Gezza - nice one!

The best music from a non-pop genre rarely sells that well. The tracks you named still sound fantastic now.
May 5, 201411 yr Hang on! Ever since this thread started I knew who was going to be #1, until I actually saw who was #1! Cher's Believe is a dance song no matter what style/genre she normally sings, it is a dance song, so why is she not #1? I'm really disappointed that you chose to ignore certain songs Gezza. What was the point in doing this thread if you wasn't going to do it properly? I've never had a problem with you Gezza and always liked your threads/posts, but i'm disappointed in the result of this thread.
May 5, 201411 yr Any genre based list is going to have disagreements about what should be included and what should not. I for one tend to agree with Gezza that "Believe" should be out, but I also think that "Blue (Ba Da Bee)" should be in, and "We're Going To Ibiza!" should be out. It's all about opinions, as none of the genres can be defined tightly enough to have a cast-iron list of what qualifies.
May 5, 201411 yr Well it doesn't take a genius to realise that Believe is a dance single, so there's no reason good enough to suggest why it shouldn't be included.
May 5, 201411 yr I never considered Believe as a contender. I agree with gezza. You're being needlessly harsh. It's just a thread on a forum. It's clearly debatable. Edited May 5, 201411 yr by Sinner
May 5, 201411 yr It doesn't matter if it's just a thread. If Music Week did something similar, then people would contact them and they would change it, and people would be moaning about it on here. I'm just saying why do a top 100 best selling dance singles of the 90s when you're gonna ignore the biggest one?
May 5, 201411 yr Because the compiler (and at least a few others) doesn't think it qualifies. If it bothers you that much, do your own list, then you get to decide what goes in and what gets cut.
May 5, 201411 yr http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=165959 This thread alone shows how much disagreement 'Believe' causes, it's difficult to pinpoint a certain song to one particular genre..

May 5, 201411 yr OMG Grow up. Do your own bloody chart. So I need to grow up because I have an opinion. Yeah I really need to grow up lol!
May 5, 201411 yr Author So I need to grow up because I have an opinion. Yeah I really need to grow up lol! Stephen, clearly you are entitled to your opinion and to express it. I deemed "Believe" more pop than dance (similarly Eiffel 65) but this is down to perception and clearly we differ on this point. Dare I say it but when you posted your opinion it was put forward perhaps a little too forthrightly for some which caused a reaction. As the thread in the dance forum shows (and another poster pointed out) the "Cher question" is debatable though I appreciate that for you it may not be so. :D Incidentally when did MW or the OCC ever change any of their lists when we objected to something or thought they had something wrong?
May 5, 201411 yr Not at all, you're treating Gezza like he has some sort of duty to include what you (or any of us) think should be there. He owes us nothing at all. None of what you're saying comes across like opinion and more like entitlement and privilege. Edited May 5, 201411 yr by AnthonyT

But I understand that everyone has their own opinions and although I don't agree with it, I didn't mean to sound rude or to cause offence. Edited May 5, 201411 yr by StephenN18
