There are so many British acts who had their US debut before their UK debut.... I can name also Bush and BB Mak who had their US debut before their UK debut...

Back Here was a top 40 hit for BBMak here in 1999. Admittedly it only became a proper hit here in 2001, after the US hype, but they did make their UK chart debut first.

The digital sales fall seems particularly violent this week, a drop of 24% in one year is really rather crazy. I don't think the UK's drops have ever been above 20% this year...

I think streaming may be starting to take effect.

The Black Keys almost debuting higher than Gaga! :o

It's a bit surreal to see DJ Snake & Lil Jon finally top 10! Not your typical hit, obviously, but performing well on all fronts which is great.

I've thought the same. With the nature of the Hot 100 atm, a song usually needs to have very broad appeal to get in the top 10 (unlike the UK, where songs can even get #1 without having broad appeal). Most top 10 hits are big crossover hits. Turn Down For What doesn't have broad appeal, a lot of people will hate the song as it's lacking in melody and vocals, so it's surprising that it's top 10.

It's not doing that good in airplay really (I think it's only just entered the top 50 in the airplay chart), but I guess that's good considering that the song isn't radio friendly.

Kinda bizarre that rappers seem so prevalent in the Hot 100's list of "longest total weeks at #1" - really shows you just how big an impact "urban" features have had in the country, historically.

In the case of Pharrell he benefitted from features, but surprisingly 50 Cent and Nelly's #1s were all as a lead artist (on Crack a Bottle the three of them were all credited as joint leads).

Oh that is actually surprising, and impressive too :o Pity 50 Cent's mainstream success went away so soon, he still feels so iconic to me.

Kind of random, but I think his career tragectory was very similar to Lady Gaga's (at least in the US).

First album is very successful in 2003/2009. Two #1 hits on the Hot 100. Really hyped up with stories about getting shot 9 times or being a hermaphrodite. 50 Cent promoted using Dr. Dre and Eminem, Lady Gaga promoted using Akon. Both signed to Interscope.

Second album is also successful two years later (2005/2011), but arguably mainly off the back of the previous album. The lead single is a disappointment to a lot of people, but goes to #1 obviously, because anything they release would at that stage.

Third album has less success two years later (2007/2013), but they both still manage a top 5 hit.

I know there's some major differences, but a lot of similarities as well. Wonder if this trend will continue (if it does at least it means Lady Gaga will get a few hits as a featured artist in 2017 lol).

Obviously their music and fanbases are pretty much polar opposites. But I was thinking before ARTPOP came out that her career was a bit like 50 Cent's, and I think that even more now.

Am I the only one who was surprised with Chris Brown jumping to #14 ! I knew he will go up with the streaming of the video but not that high !
