The song really isn't very good considering Cheryl always manages to pull one or two amazing songs out of the bag per album. It's not particularly catchy or memorable and Tinie's rap sounds like he wrote it in 10 minutes.

The performance was quite flat and underwhelming as opposed to bringing it to life too. It's such a shame because I LOVE Cheryl, but she can do better.

The dancing really didn't fit with the song. I know Cheryl is an amazing dancer, but it's a jazzy pop number not a RNB moving song. Her miming was really bad, though her backing track vocals didn't sound particularly clean either. Still waiting for the song to click with me, but I still can't stand it.

I really don't know what Cheryl has to do to please people, sometimes I feel like she better fly to an other country where she'll be more liked and less criticized…

No offense to everyone, but that performance was perfectly fine and I wish we had more popstars like her.

Cheryl gets told off for using a pre-recorded track (and we don't even have a proof of that, every time she sounds live people say it's pre-recorded anyway), but Little Mix mimed 80% of their song to the studio version and no one complain about it. Typical!

Everyone's up to its opinion, I know, but I feel like it's 2008 all over again and everything she does she gets slated to death. She's far from perfect but to me she is one of the most entertaining UK popstars and I wish people weren't so hard on her. Most other UK popstars don't make half as much efforts as she does to entertain, she has fans all over the world, but the UK can't be proud of her and just love to bring her down.

And I'm not specifically talking about this forum, you're far from the cruelest.

The one thing that worries me is why is there such a huge gap from the BGT performance to the single release?
Yeah, thank god there are CRUELER!!!

Do you think it's possible that you may be going a bit easy on her regarding the performance because you are a fan of her and her music?

I agree with you that she is prone to heavy criticism that is often unwarranted (I think due mainly to people continuing to dislike her reliance on X Factor to launch and maintain her solo career and the fact that she's not a particularly gifted singer) but I understand why people generally weren't impressed with the BGT performance.

- The song hasn't gone down well for multiple reasons so that's always going to be a factor, no matter how well she performs it live. The much-derided sax breakdown sounded as thin in the performance as in the recording.

- She followed Little Mix, whose performance was much more of a spectacle with better production values. The song is more popular, the dancing was more impactful, they (or at least some of them) sang the verses live, which is obviously going to impress people more than miming. It's kind of unfortunate for Cheryl to have followed them but that's what happened and it explains the underwhelmed reaction to her.

- I thought it was pretty obvious that Cheryl mimed? I usually wouldn't care as long as the dancing was top notch but it wasn't that impressive or even connected to the music, as has been said. Also, the vocals and quality of the pre-recorded track that she used weren't great.

- She has a high standard when it comes to big, high-energy TV performances and yesterday didn't match her others.

There are probably more reasons behind the criticism as, like you say, she often gets slated undeservedly and there are certain people who'll never like her or her music because of aspects of her past. Her performance last night was weak though so the reaction is justified IMO.

Yeah, it's so stupid. I think it would have been a better idea to release today, as was rumoured. Very unlikely to have been #1 but I think it'd have a better chart run considering it's not a very popular song so a held-back release may not do it many favours.

I think people are exaggerating the performance - it wasn't THAT bad, surely? OK, following Little Mix, I can understand it sounding a bit flat and it doesn't work particularly well live anyway, but all things considered, it was still quite good? Miming, yeah, but anyone who didn't expect that must be silly. It's given the pre-order a nice boost (climbed more places on iTunes than Ed or Ella did, even if she hasn't got as high, because she started out lower than them and has less airplay also).

Also, the long gap isn't really ideal but it's still good that she's not wasting any time for promotion right now, the more pre-orders it can get, the better.

I understand certain criticisms, but nevertheless I thought it was an enjoyable performance! She's a very captivating performer.
She's a very good performer - I think the song is just a bit too average for a performance of it to be anything other than average as well. This song is no 'Fight For This Love' or 'Call My Name' and that was very evident last night.

Okay I'm convinced

This is amazing! Tinieh is so unnecessary tho, waiting for that Cheryl only version tot leak

I'm totally the opposite, I was warming to it but the performance has put me right off! That sax is grating!
The performance was ok, but of the launch performances of her lead singles, it is easily the worst. The sax breakdown while sounding weak on the studio version, sounds so off in the live (if you say so) version. It really needed a live saxophone to pull it off really. Hopefully for the song to launch the album she will go more traditional Cheryl sounding. The reaction to this screams it's going to be referred to as a buzz single.
This remix is so better than the original imo, no horrid sax -

This. This remix makes the song a lot more enjoyable. I think adding the brass was a big mistake on the main edit because there is just so much of it.

I think the main problem of the performance, to elaborate on what I said before, is that the song was all wrong for all that dancing. It really didn't fit into the song at all and I think Cheryl was trying to live up to her previous performances' energy with the wrong song, she should have gone at it with a different angle.

I'm fondly remembering how amazing that The Voice performance of Call My Name was.

People are overreacting on both ends of the spectrum. The performance wasn't great but nobody has outright said "wow that performance was terrible" so there's no need to be questioning people on hating it. The overwhelming reaction has just been "meh", which is fair enough. She usually does better live performances, which is why I wasn't wowed, but I do agree the song plays a role in that. I'm sure she'll bring it on X Factor.

Well yeah, you're right that nobody had that reaction here but I think Hayzayy's post wasn't specifically referring to here but to general reactions in other forums and elsewhere (or that was my understanding), which was then what my reply was trying to explain. But yeah, it's the kind of thing that gets a bit blown out of proportion. Meh is a good word to sum up the whole affair :P.

Your explanation was very good, I just don't think the situation should require explanation. Perhaps elsewhere it does (I have no idea what Hayzayy is reading) but looking at Joseph's post for example, he questioned what people didn't like and then successfully listed almost every given reason for the negative reception. Not praising something =/= hating it - as you say, "meh" is the word and there's no reason for anyone to be either baffled or defensive.
I've definitely heard some people say the performance was awful, which I don't particularly agree with and I stated my reasons why, that's all?
