Posted April 25, 201411 yr I just watched this film at the cinema today. It was released in my country two weeks ago. I know that Americans and British have already watched it because it was released there last year. Given that I have watched the original movie (2003), I was sure that it wouldn't be good as the original one. The remake wasn't bad but i think that Korean movie was much better. Josh Brolin did an amazing job acting in this movie and Elizabeth Olsen was quite good. The screenplay was not exactly the same but many people believe that remakes don't need to be the same as the original. It has violence, revenge, nudity etc. It is not the suitable movie for all ages (Although a father took his little son to the cinema to watch it). The director of the movie is Spike Lee. He is famous director but he is overrated too. I remember when I watched "25th Hour" twelve years ago. I found it as an average movie but everyone (I mean critics) praised him. Nevertheless, his work was decent in "Oldboy" and his directing in it was genius. The fact that I have watched the original film, it didn't help me for this movie. I remembered only the beginning and the end. However, I knew that the story had a lot of mystery. It was not a bad movie but we can't compare it with the original masterpiece. The latter was one of the best films that i have ever watched!!! This version was a big failure in the box office and it had very bad impact in other countries too. The film didn't manage to overtake its budget. It has a low rating in IMDB too. I didn't find it so bad but i would suggest to watch the original movie first. May 13, 201411 yr To be honest I wasn't a massive fan of the original but it was a decent enough movie, but the remake is awful to be honest and another example of hollywood messing up classic's
