May 5, 201411 yr Author You can't simply use "she's a pop artist" as a reason to exclude Cher. The decision should be based on the song not on the artist. I remember when people (not here) said "OMG Madonna is not trip-hop" when people described Frozen as trip-hop. Madonna is a person - not a genre. She operates in pop but that doesn't stop her (or Cher) making music from other genres. RANT OVER I think "Believe" definitely has to be on the list
May 5, 201411 yr Author Looks like the list is going to be a top 500 :D I will post 100 a day starting tomorrow and ending Saturday

May 5, 201411 yr Together Again isn't a dance pop record. It's a cure for insomniacs. Urgh, it's a classic!
May 5, 201411 yr If you can dance to it on a dancefloor, uptempo, then it's dance regardless of any specific elements in it that may or may not come from other genres. Dance music can have any instrument, vocal-style or age to it. There's probably a minimum BPM that is down to personal taste, but every decade has dance music - they just give it fancy new labels. Of course, no rules that you have to like or dislike any particular dance record, or that it only counts if it's credible, or veers into cheese. Cheese can be tasty B-) I understand what you're saying, but under your description of dance you could include lots of rock, R&B, country, etc. songs, since lots of them have fast tempos and can be danced to easily, whilst I think this countdown is for a more specific kind of music. As for the minimum BPM, it's an interesting question what the limit would be, but in the past few years we've seen a huge range in tempos of "dance" songs (or at least songs that you can dance to). Skream's remix of In For the Kill and R.I.P by Rita Ora have effective tempos of around 70 bpm, whilst all the drum & bass songs (Hot Right Now, Nobody to Love, Rudimental's songs, etc.) have tempos of around 160-180 bpm. So songs as slow as even 70 bpm can be danced to.
May 5, 201411 yr I think people confuse "dance music" with "music you can dance to"... "Dance Music" as a genre has several subgenres that you can't dance to, like chillout and ambient. Edited May 5, 201411 yr by Euphorique
May 5, 201411 yr Urgh, it's a classic! I can vouch for this. It's a total classic for getting me to sleep, although it's tired on me after using the disc too much.
May 6, 201411 yr Ace Of Base - All That She Wants (Pop) Aqua - Barbie Girl (Pop) Aqua - Doctor Jones (Pop) Cartoons - Witch Doctor (Pop) Cartoons - Doo Dah (Pop) Cher - Believe (this as mentioned is a really tricky one, it really does fit into both dance and pop genres and I'd be happy with it in either category) Cher - Strong Enough (much more pop) Cornershop - Brimful Of Asha (the Fatboy Slim remix? Pop) D-Ream - Things Can Only Get Better (Pop) D-Ream - U R The Best Thing (Pop) Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee) (Pop) Gina G - I Belong To You (Pop) Gina G - Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit (Heavily dance-influenced pop) Happy Mondays - Step On (Madchester pop) Janet Jackson - Together Again (Pop) Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Boom! Shake The Room (Rap pop) Kris Kross - Jump (Rap pop) MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This (Rap pop) Madonna - Justify My Love (Pop) Madonna - Ray Of Light (Pop) Madonna - Vogue (Absolutely awesome but dance-influenced pop) Mr President - Coco Jamboo (Europop) No Mercy - Where Do You Go (very Pop) No Mercy - Please Don't Go (Pop) Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe (Pop) Rednex - Old Pop In An Oak (Pop (in an oak)) Right Said Fred - Deeply Dippy (Pop) Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy (Dance-influenced pop) Simply Red - Fairground (Dance sampling but made into pop) Soup Dragons - I'm Free (Madchester pop) T-Spoon - Sex On The Beach (Europop) The Smurfs - I've Got A Little Puppy (Kid-friendly parody pop of a happy hardcore anthem) Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby (Rap pop) Whigfield - Another Day (Pop) Whigfield - Saturday Night (This is as tricky as Believe...it's very commercially friendly dance that just fits into pop but again I'd be ok with either) Whigfield - Think Of You (Pop) White Town - Your Woman (Pop) Absolutely none of them I'd put 100% into dance, Whigfield and Cher are the only real two I'd just about accept.
