Posted May 5, 201411 yr The UK's most downloaded urban tracks of all time revealed! 04/05/2014 By Daniel Lane http://c0903002.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/7280-robin_thicke_blurred_lines_420x250.jpg As part of the Official Charts' Decade Of Digital celebrations, MTV Base have unveiled the Official All-Time Urban Download Chart Top 20. Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke has beaten the Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling to be crowned the UK’s most downloaded urban track of all time. The news was revealed this evening on music TV channel MTV Base as part of a countdown of the Official All-Time Urban Download Chart Top 20. The genre chart has been compiled as part of the Decade Of Digital initiative to celebrate 10 years since legitimate digital downloading launched in the UK. Despite being released less than a year ago Blurred Lines, which also features US rapper TI and man of the moment Pharrell Williams, has sold more than 1.54 million copies to date. “I’m so honoured, the success of Blurred Lines is a dream come true,” Robin Thicke told OfficialCharts.com. I Gotta Feeling debuts one place behind it at Number 2. Originally released in 2009, the Black Eyed Peas’ track became the first single to sell over a million copies in the UK on digital downloads alone. Pharrell Williams’ Happy, which was released last summer, shoots up the all-time download rankings, entering at Number 3 on the Official All-Time Urban Download Chart. Bruno Mars’ 2010 single Just the Way You Are (Amazing) is at Number 4, while Eminem and Rihanna’s Love The Way You Lie (5) completes the Top 5. It is the highest charting track to feature Rihanna of four in the Top 20, which includes Only Girl (In The World) (6), Diamonds (7), and What’s My Name (18). May 5, 201411 yr Author You knew it was coming! :P I want to see the most downloaded Christian/Gospel songs next.
May 5, 201411 yr In what world are the likes of 'Happy', 'Diamonds' and 'Just The Way You Are' urban :P? I wish songs were judged on their individual characteristics rather than the genres of music sometimes occupied by the artists behind them.
May 5, 201411 yr Well 'Happy' is soul (kinda), which could be lumped in with 'urban'. Don't really see it myself :P. EDIT: On second thoughts, I sort of agree with you. It's kind of, how should I put this...'funky'. Edited May 5, 201411 yr by Noahspike
May 5, 201411 yr Out of all the songs you guys pick "Diamond", "Happy" or "Just The Way You Are" to bitch about? At least those got played massively on urban stations. "On The Floor", "Scream And Shout", "I Gotta Feeling" and "Only Girl" arent urban at all. Edited May 5, 201411 yr by Euphorique
May 5, 201411 yr "On The Floor", "Scream And Shout", "I Gotta Feeling" and "Only Girl" arent urban at all. I mean, if they include songs that have rappers in it, they may as well list 85% of '90s Eurodance records as urban too.
I'm pretty sure at least three out of your four picks would have also got similar amounts of urban airplay. Anyway, I think anything categorising urban music is bound to cause differences in opinion, e.g. the annual objection to MOBOs nominees :P.
May 5, 201411 yr Very few of these are actually urban and do black people not live in he country side too?
