A song by a Norwegian comedy duo with the subject matter of the noises of different animals would make the Top 20

A song spending 7 weeks at #2 behind 6 different songs.

A song moving 1-4-1 over a 3-week period.

Why are these unbelievable?

Unexpected, yes. But unbelieveable?

He had some other hits like Frontin' and Can I Have It Like That but DILIH is probably the one with the most longevity (at least it's the only one I still remember what sounded like without having to use audio to remind me)

I agree 'Drop It Like It's Hot' was probably what he was best known for before last year (excluding 'One (Your Name)' which was also after the cutoff of this thread), but he did have other success with N*E*R*D ('She Wants To Move' was pretty massive IIRC?) and plenty as a producer with The Neptunes (Kelis' 'Caught Out There'/'Milkshake', Britney Spears' 'I'm A Slave 4 U', *NSYNC's 'Girlfriend', Beyoncé's 'Work It Out', Justin Timberlake's 'Like I Love You'/'Rock Your Body', Nelly's 'Hot In Herre', Gwen Stefani's 'Hollaback Girl'/'Wind It Up', Snoop Dogg's 'Signs' + pretty much all of his other hits apparently, Madonna's 'Give It 2 Me' and about as long a list again of lesser hits), so I don't think it'd have been too much of a stretch that he'd go on to become a massive star of his own.

That was a ridiculously long sentence. Short version: Pharrell has been massive since the 90s pretty much, just not particularly in his own name until last year.

A Facebook campaign to "get the boys to number 1 on sunday (sic)" for Ant & Dec being successful.
Not quite as unbelievable as a lot of other stuff mentioned in this thread, but not many people would have predicted the Arctic Monkeys making such a successful comeback, especially with a Top 10 single.
Surely the Ant & Dec number one would have been seen as ridiculous in 2009.

It was still ridiculous in 2013!

Sure, why not? A 100% record of reaching number 1 with their albums, their last single (less than 6 months ago) had reached number 12, I would said a successful Arctic Monkeys "comeback" would have been more likely than not to be honest.

I think the most outstanding thing to happen is Lady Gaga's decline. It's scary how quickly you can go from being the number 1 artist of the universe to the "nobody really cares about you darling" kind of popstar. Somehow I'm pretty pleased with it because her Monsters used to be the most annoying, arrogant and pretentious people on the Internet, like EVER. :kink:

Adele becoming such an icon with her second album is quite the big surprise too. I would have never dared dream about it. But it's just sooo deserved.

Oh and Girls Aloud not giving a shit about their reunion and coming back for 2 months or so was a really sad surprise after such a long time waiting for them and so many promises of "3 more albums".

I would say Miley being the biggest popstar of 2013 is the biggest shock, at the start of the decade (When 'Can't Be Tamed' flopped) I thought her days were numbered.

Lady GaGa's rapid decline

J-Lo's On the Floor

The rise of Pharrell from the ashes

The Saturdays getting a #1

Sophie Ellis Bexter getting a top 10 album

I agree with Mango about the AMs i never thought theyd have an era which is as big as their first 2005-07 era but they have and in doing so establishing themselves as the biggest UK band again. I thought theyd get no1 albums so long as radio 1 supported them but never as big as AM currently is!

It wasn't primarily a Facebook campaign, it was brought back into the chart by a performance on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.
