God, that hashtag really does make us sound like a CULT (WE ARE)

So, we're HERE. Four months of mincing, crying, spilt milk and accusations of it being the worst year since [x] (in fairness most of that from me so we'll MOVE ON) and we've reached the PINNACLE OF ANY YEAR: EUROVISION WEEK. Don't forget to put in your advance notice to all friends to not set any PLANS for this evening, Thursday or Saturday (take off Sunday too, you'll need to recover).

For newcomers, this year we're a little depleted due to the global recession and last year's semi-finals hitting a lot of the Balkan television stations where it really hurt, so we're down to 37 entries. This is the larger semi with 16 entries, and 10 of these will graduate to the final on Saturday. Sadly for UK viewers we can't vote until Thursday's semi, but if you're in Spain, Denmark and France then this semi is your oyster to spend INORDINATE amounts of credit on this eve.

So, who's in the firing line?

By the time Suzy comes on enough Absolut will have be consumed I'll be Suzy-shaking on the coffee table!

As usual all my favourites (top 5 in this year) in one semifinal.

Sanna would qualified from third place [behind Ukraine and Azerbaijan]. Another 4 will fight for non-last position in this semifinal with Albania.

Don't forget to put in your advance notice to all friends to not set any PLANS for this evening, Thursday or Saturday (take off Sunday too, you'll need to recover).

I pretty much have no plans any saturday ever but this saturday I'm seeing Katy Perry live  Sad I'm missing out on ESC but still very excited..

For my PINK POUND I reckon it'll be the following:

01 Sweden

02 Armenia

03 Ukraine

04 Hungary

05 Russia

06 Azerbaijan

07 Belgium

08 Netherlands

09 Montenegro

10 Portugal

-

11 Estonia

12 Iceland

13 Moldova

14 Latvia

15 San Marino

16 Albania

I'd say Sweden, Armenia, Ukraine and Hungary are all dead certs to go through. I'm fairly confident Russia and Azerbaijan will be through as well (particularly if the Aliyevs are still speed dialling from Estonia). I'd love Belgium to go out but I think there's enough vox there for the juries and enough saps out there to vote for it even though it's totally the MALE SUUS (but obviously not as fabulous). I think the juries will have the Netherlands through, but 8th through 14th up there for me feels totally interchangable. The only ones I'm really confident in saying they won't make it are San Marino and Albania, but even then neither feels like an obvious last placer.

Montenegro will come down to whether it turns on enough juries and enough of the Balkan diaspora - I'm not keen to rule out a sound which has been popular before, even when you take out most of the Balkans.

Portugal will come down to whether it gets the party vote. There's nothing else really like it in here in terms of light-heartedness, except maybe Iceland and Latvia, so I'm thinking it'll scrape through off the Solayoh voting audience.

Estonia comes down to whether or not the juries raise their eyebrows at flagrant plagiarism, as I'm sure the voters will. She has vox though, which gives her a shot.

Iceland feels like a potential surprise package, but this sort of thing hasn't really got a record for success.

Moldova could've been in with a big shot had they kept the NF costume, but without it the song's just a bit of a dirge. Vox again, but is it enough?

Latvia all depends on how the novelty vote deploys. It doesn't sound like jury bait, so it'll be relying on televoters, and we all know Latvia hasn't got the best form for that. A potential last placer, but it could go either way.

Talk about a REVERSE SOPHIE'S CHOICE

'you must pick ten'

'can't you kill ANOTHER TWO?'

Gonna hazard a guess at the following:

01 Armenia: Aram mp3 - Not Alone

02 Latvia: Aarzemnieki - Cake To Bake

03 Estonia: Tanja - Amazing

04 Sweden: Sanna Nielsen - Undo

05 Iceland: Pollapönk - No Prejudice

06 Albania: Hersi - One Night's Anger

07 Russia: The Tolmachevy Twins - Shine

08 Azerbaijan: Dilara Kazimova - Start A Fire

09 Ukraine: Mariya Yaremchuk - Tick-Tock

10 Belgium: Axel Hirsoux - Mother

11 Moldova: Cristina Scarlat - Wild Soul

12 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Maybe (Forse)

13 Portugal: Suzy - Quero ser tua

14 The Netherlands: The Common Linnets - Calm After The Storm

15 Montenegro: Sergej Ćetković - Moj svijet

16 Hungary: Andras Kalláy-Saunders - Running

I really hope that Moldova can sneak in though. Hungary, Sweden and Azerbaijan are the essentials from this semi for me and I'm virtually 100% sure they're all going to be sailing through!

The way I see it

Definite Qualifiers

Armenia

Sweden

Azerbaijan

Ukraine

Hungary

Reasonably Safe Qualifiers

The Netherlands

Estonia

Montenegro

Borderline Qualifiers

Iceland

Russia

Moldova

Portugal

No-Hopers

Latvia

Albania

Belgium (This'll be the one that suffers the most from the polarising opinions from the juries wich will really harm their chances under this scoring system. Plus I'm convinced that the target audience for this song won't actually be watching the Semi Final)

San Marino

01 Hungary

02 Armenia

03 Sweden

04 Azerbaijan

05 Ukraine

06 Estonia

07 The Netherlands

08 Portugal

09 Montenegro

10 Russia

11 Iceland

12 Belgium

13 Moldova

14 Latvia

15 San Marino

16 Albania

As much poetic justice as it would be to see a Russian song knocked out by Iceland, I'd call it like that at the moment (although who knows, either way there'll be a headline to make out of it!). Portugal's the one who will benefit most from the draw after the dreariness of Belgium, Moldova and San Marino.

Aside from Sweden (obv), San Marino, Russia (SONG ONLY) and Hungary I could not care less about this heat, really.

I predict these to go through:

01 Armenia: Aram mp3 - Not Alone

02 Latvia: Aarzemnieki - Cake To Bake (See this qualify easily. They will get some points from their friends Russia, Estonia, Armenia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and possibly Moldova)

03 Estonia: Tanja - Amazing (See Latvia)

04 Sweden: Sanna Nielsen - Undo

05 Iceland: Pollapönk - No Prejudice

06 Albania: Hersi - One Night's Anger

07 Russia: The Tolmachevy Twins - Shine

08 Azerbaijan: Dilara Kazimova - Start A Fire

09 Ukraine: Mariya Yaremchuk - Tick-Tock

10 Belgium: Axel Hirsoux - Mother

11 Moldova: Cristina Scarlat - Wild Soul

12 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Maybe (Forse)

13 Portugal: Suzy - Quero ser tua

14 The Netherlands: The Common Linnets - Calm After The Storm

15 Montenegro: Sergej Ćetković - Moj svijet

16 Hungary: Andras Kalláy-Saunders - Running

My prediction:

01 Armenia: Aram mp3 - Not Alone

02 Latvia: Aarzemnieki - Cake To Bake

03 Estonia: Tanja - Amazing

04 Sweden: Sanna Nielsen - Undo

05 Iceland: Pollapönk - No Prejudice

06 Albania: Hersi - One Night's Anger

07 Russia: The Tolmachevy Twins - Shine

08 Azerbaijan: Dilara Kazimova - Start A Fire

09 Ukraine: Mariya Yaremchuk - Tick-Tock

10 Belgium: Axel Hirsoux - Mother

11 Moldova: Cristina Scarlat - Wild Soul

12 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Maybe (Forse)

13 Portugal: Suzy - Quero ser tua

14 The Netherlands: The Common Linnets - Calm After The Storm

15 Montenegro: Sergej Ćetković - Moj svijet

16 Hungary: Andras Kalláy-Saunders - Running

Really, aside from San Marino there isn't any country that I think couldn't possibly qualify. It feels very open to me. I think Iceland has a charming quality that'll make them a hit, I just can't see them not qualifying somehow.

Who I want:

01 Armenia: Aram mp3 - Not Alone

02 Latvia: Aarzemnieki - Cake To Bake

03 Estonia: Tanja - Amazing

04 Sweden: Sanna Nielsen - Undo

05 Iceland: Pollapönk - No Prejudice

06 Albania: Hersi - One Night's Anger

07 Russia: The Tolmachevy Twins - Shine

08 Azerbaijan: Dilara Kazimova - Start A Fire

09 Ukraine: Mariya Yaremchuk - Tick-Tock

10 Belgium: Axel Hirsoux - Mother

11 Moldova: Cristina Scarlat - Wild Soul

12 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Maybe (Forse)

13 Portugal: Suzy - Quero ser tua

14 The Netherlands: The Common Linnets - Calm After The Storm

15 Montenegro: Sergej Ćetković - Moj svijet

16 Hungary: Andras Kalláy-Saunders - Running

I don't expect that to change tonight, but I haven't seen the rehearsals so seeing the performances live could change some of my lesser wants if they turn out to be poor.
