Commentary

 

It's a return to No.1 for Sanna Nielsen's epic ballad Undo, which clocks up its sixth week on top after finishing third in last night's Eurovision final. RAM & Susana fall a place to No.2 with the equally huge RAMelia (Tribute To Amelia) while fellow Dutch act country duo The Common Linnets debut at No.3 with their Eurovision runner-up Calm After The Storm. Molly's Children Of The Universe slides two places to No.4 and Fox Stevenson remains at No.5 for a second week with Tico. Lily Allen's Sheezus becomes her third consecutive chart topper as it goes straight in at the top ahead of fellow chart heavyweight Sarah McLachlan, the C+++anadian singer-songwriter debuting at No.2 with Shine On. The Eurovision compilation falls two spots to No.3 after a month on top, Shakira's Shakira. falls two places to No.4 and Swedish balladeer Lykke Li enters at No.5 with I Never Learn.

A wonderful return to the top for Slaynna! For me it was the best of the night and I'm thrilled she came third! The Common Linnets & Queen Conchita completely came out of nowhere for me (and the rest of Europe it seems) this week and I LOVE them both now. A win for Austria after 49 years, who'd have thought it?

 

Still gutted for Molly she did deserve top 10, though her performance wasn't as good on the night as she's done it in the rehearsals. I suppose my own admiration for the song got in the way of my predictions, but hey, it was nice to be able to patriotic and get behind our entry for a change!

 

BTW, have you heard The Common Linnets album? It's very good!

4 weeks at #1 for the compilation album is very good, it usually only gets 2 or 3. Lily and Sarah are two of my favourite acts ever, it stood no chance at all of remaining at #1 unless their albums were crap (which they're not). Come back when you've had Eurovision songs at #1 in your singles chart for 9 of the last 10 weeks!

Really got everything crossed for Tico and Family Tree to do well, I'm sure they'll both come in the top 10/15 region but they deserve better. I've really 'got' Conchita this week, although i saw her perform it live in London before and I sort of got it then too, but somehow still didn't think she'd win until literally the day of the contest :o I'd have been a rich man if I'd been able to predict that the fan hype would translate into actual results!
