February 13, 201510 yr I don't know why but I feel a lot is happening but we're not getting anywhere? One of the big moments of the last episode was the show explicitly stating that Claire was involved in the Sandbrook case somehow but that's been heavily suggested throughout anyway. Other than that, we've just got Lee Ashworth not really doing anything and no real advancements in that part of the story aside from Claire. With the court case, there's just something not working there which is making me lose interest in it. I think it's the fact that we know Joe is guilty and the defence seem to be throwing everything at the wall to defend him.
February 13, 201510 yr I think that's why the show isn't doing as well in the ratings as series 1. In series 1, we knew the story started with Danny's murder and would build up to the big reveal. This series however doesn't appear to have that obvious build up or focus, though we can assume the Sandbrooke case will be solved the rest of the story is still unclear but I think for me it's the quality of the acting that's keeping me hooked from Eve Myles and Olivia Coleman in particular. I just hope the series finale doesn't leave us too disappointed but I'm enjoying the show as much as the first time.

End of the day what gripped people was who killed Danny.. the public love that sort of stuff (as do I). Just look at The Missing, which followed a similar format and gripped the nation! The problem this season is that it's all been a bit too soapy. There's been no real mystery to go with the human drama. It's taken 7 episodes for there to be a cliffhanger, and then they throw that at us! Be interesting to see where they pick up next week... I'm going to say they will go Guilty as the Not Guilty verdict imo would have been better placed at the end of the episode.
February 17, 201510 yr Guilty or Not Guilty? We find out next week then! I knew it would end right there. Drat. My guess atm is not guilty.
February 17, 201510 yr Just got round to seeing last night's episode. I suppose that is one way to boost next week's overnight ratings rather than relying on catch-up to get a decent final figure
February 20, 201510 yr I can only see it being a 'not guilty' verdict if they are going ahead with the idea of a trilogy. They'll probably solve the Sandbrook case next week but it'll still mean that's the second case in a row that Alec handled wrongly and it'll have a lot more implications on the town obviously.
February 20, 201510 yr Come to think of it, many people are expecting a Not Guilty verdict now the defence has planted doubt in the jury's mind so my latest guess is that it'll be Guilty after all. That would tie-in somewhat with Radio Times saying this last episode is mostly about Sandbrook which they say has a "satisfying conclusion" for the viewer.
February 22, 201510 yr Having binged on series 1 just before series 2 started, it's going to kill me waiting until 2016 for the third part. A thoroughly gripping TV programme though, that I still can't call whether they'll find Joe guilty or not guilty is making it all the more enjoyable.
February 23, 201510 yr Author So confirmed series 3 - I thought they left the Broadchurch residents on a happy ending. I won't be watching if series 3 is about the barrister son's case. Hopefully Joe will catch a train back from Sheffield and someone will bump him off :D
February 23, 201510 yr A third series?! Not sure where they can go with this now...though credit to the cast for done incredible acting, I knew Claire was dodgy but that reveal was still quite surprising But if it means another series to watch Olivia Colman's acting master class I'll be there!
February 23, 201510 yr An expected verdict as I think it would have been strange to have the trial running throughout the series only for them to say he's guilty again. A satisfying conclusion to the Sandbrooke case too, I guess it was never a whodunnit in that, more of a why/howdunnit. It did feel like a very satisfying ending to the whole Broadchurch story too in that they stuck together and have done their best to move beyond the court verdict. So, in that sense, I have NO IDEA how there can be a third series  I wouldn't be satisfied either Rooney if it was about the barrister's son case!
February 23, 201510 yr Let's leave aside the technicality that there is no "train to Sheffield" from Bournemouth  The third series could be a search for the compelling evidence that would allow Joe to be tried again. Of course, that investigation could lead to a new suspect. Perhaps Joe's confession was because he was covering up for somebody. Ellie perhaps, or a woman (or even a man) he was having an affair with.
February 23, 201510 yr This series was never going to match the opening series, which was exceptional, but I stuck with it and I knew what the outcome would be of Joe's court case, as for the Sandbrooke case it was more of a filler to add a different element to the series, I didn't think it added anything. Anyhow the next series could centre around Alex Hardy's family maybe his teenage daughter gets abducted or something, I can't really see where else its going to go, as that felt closure to the existing storyline.
February 23, 201510 yr Let's leave aside the technicality that there is no "train to Sheffield" from Bournemouth  Im no trainspotter but they do actually! Virgin Trains run from Bournemouth, not always direct though, to Sheffield but still...... (I might need to get out more :) )
February 23, 201510 yr Im no trainspotter but they do actually! Virgin Trains run from Bournemouth, not always direct though, to Sheffield but still...... (I might need to get out more :) ) That's my point. There are no direct trains to Sheffield so nobody can be put on "the Sheffield train". Also, the service that was run by Virgin is now run by Cross Country. I'm no trainspotter either, but I have caught a lot of trains from Bournemouth  Anyway, compared with some of the factual inaccuracies in this series, this was a very minor matter.
February 23, 201510 yr Author Well surely Joe won't keep away from Broadchurch forever!? I guess the obvious answer is someone will kill Joe and there will be a whole new whodunnit, tho not sure that will happen.
