Really enjoyed the first half of that match including the celebration where Gary Lewin got hurt
So England v Uruguay becomes a must-win for both sides. What fun that is going to be

I know and hopefully Costa Rica and Italy draw.

Β

Don't panic folks. I still think England and Italy will go through. Costa Rica will get no more points as today's win was a fluke. We'll beat both Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Massive game on Thursday now.

Β

England played the best I have seen for a long time. Raheem Sterling is some players, he's got all the tools in his locker to become a Bale/Ronaldo beast of a player.

Β

Baines was atrocious, although not helped by Rooney in the first half. He offered nothing, and is wasted in the left-sided role, Baines was constantly exposed and was beaten way too easily for the second goal.

Β

Lots of positives to take out of the game, but really think if we're going to progress, other results are going to have to go our way. Think we'll draw on Thursday, that's my current feeling anyway.

Rooney needs to be on the next plane home - atrocious. Our obsession with the man is beyond baffling.
One piece of (slightly) good news - I was thinking last night about plausible combinations of results which could mean Italy and Uruguay both being happy with a draw in their final match. That cannot happen now. At least one of them will need more than a point to be sure of going through.
I thought Rooney was alright in the first half and did a decent job protecting Baines (I look forward to hearing the justification for Ashley Cole not playing now) but both switched off for Balotelli's goal. I'd be tempted to start Lallana against Uruguay, who were abysmal today.

Rooney would be ok if we played a fluid interchangeable front four, but he was a massive weak link. In the 4-2-3-1 your most important players are the left and right wingers as they have to support the full backs and midfield, and support the attack. Bar the assist, thought Rooney was massively poor.

You're so obsessed with him you even have the same name!

But yea I completely agree,, useless.

There's a completely different reason my username is Rooney :D

Β

Not obsessed with him, but everyone's obsession with him is awful. He's not our best striker, Sturridge is, and Sterling was our best player last night, yet everyone wants to move Sterling out to the wide forward position, and Rooney in to the centre. Decision is easy, drop Rooney, and play Oxlaide-Chamberlain as a wide forward with Welbeck.

Β

Sterling will decimate the Uraguay defence.

I'm more confident we'll go through after watching the two games from this group even after defeat than I was beforehand, I thought we'd be alright anyway as Uruguay aren't that good, but we were better than I expected and they were worse.

Β

I was pleased to see Welbeck do well yesterday, very underrated player who usually ups his game in an England shirt.
