June 10, 201412 yr Not a record, or really that close to it. In the first 2 weeks of Jan 2013, there were 27 number ones in the chart, 1 current, 1 future and 25 past number ones. For the second (i.e. most recent) week of 12/1/13 Number 1 - Impossible by James Arthur reached number one on 22/12/12 Number 2 - Scream And Shout by Will.I.Am featuring Britney Spears reached number one on 19/01/13 Number 3 - Gangnam Style by Psy reached number one on 06/10/12 Number 6 - Troublemaker by Olly Murs featuring Flo-Rida reached number one on 01/12/12 Number 8 - Diamonds by Rihanna reached number one on 13/10/12 Number 9 - Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia featuring John Martin reached number one on 20/10/12 Number 10 - Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth featuring Emeli Sandé reached number one on 03/11/12 Number 11 - Candy by Robbie Williams reached number one on 10/11/12 Number 17 - Little Things by One Direction reached number one on 24/11/12 Number 18 - Sweet Nothing by Calvin Harris featuring Florence Welch reached number one on 27/10/12 Number 19 - Hall Of Fame by Script featuring Will.I.Am reached number one on 22/09/12 Number 21 - He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother by Justice Collective reached number one on 29/12/12 Number 23 - The Power Of Love by Gabrielle Aplin reached number one on 15/12/12 Number 25 - Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen reached number one on 14/04/12 Number 33 - Bom Bom by Sam & The Womp reached number one on 01/09/12 Number 35 - Spectrum (Say My Name) by Florence & The Machine reached number one on 21/07/12 Number 41 - Paradise by Coldplay reached number one on 07/01/12 Number 45 - Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra reached number one on 18/02/12 Number 47 - Titanium by David Guetta featuring Sia reached number one on 11/02/12 Number 48 - Feel The Love by Rudimental featuring John Newman reached number one on 09/06/12 Number 52 - We Are Young by Fun featuring Janelle Monáe reached number one on 02/06/12 Number 53 - Wings by Little Mix reached number one on 08/09/12 Number 61 - Payphone by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa reached number one on 30/06/12 Number 66 - How We Do (Party) by Rita Ora reached number one on 25/08/12 Number 68 - Dance With Me Tonight by Olly Murs reached number one on 17/12/11 Number 71 - Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself) by Ne-Yo reached number one on 15/09/12 Number 72 - We Found Love by Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris reached number one on 15/10/11 (It wasn't exactly the same 27 the week before but the total was the same)
June 10, 201412 yr Thanks for the list fchd. That's an amazing, if sadly depressing, record for so many number 1s to be on the chart at the same time.
June 10, 201412 yr I'm actually amazed that this week isn't remotely close to the record, given that there has been a different Number 1 for each of the last 17 weeks! Thanks for the list, fchd. Edited June 10, 201412 yr by Mango
June 10, 201412 yr Author I'm actually amazed that this week isn't remotely close to the record, given that there has been a different Number 1 for each of the last 17 weeks! Thanks for the list, fchd. Quite a lot of the songs in that record breaking week were re-entries from the gift card effect though, so it makes sense that there were a lot of #1s in there as people tend to buy the biggest songs of the year. I wonder if this week may be a record for outside the gift card weeks.
June 11, 201412 yr Actually, last week's Top 75 had one more Number One than this weeks! Bré is of course right that it happens most frequently in "gift card weeks" , but this is a list of where there has been 20 or more Number One's in the Top 75 (all dates of course are w/e dates) 27 5/1/13 12/1/13 23 2/1/10 9/1/10 17/11/12 22 22/9/12 22/12/12 19/1/13 11/1/14 7/6/14 21 10/11/12 24/11/12 29/12/12 2/3/13 18/1/14 14/6/14 20 17/10/09 16/1/10 23/10/10 1/1/11 8/1/11 7/1/12 15/9/12 29/9/12 15/12/12 4/1/14 8/2/14 The list for w/e 17/11/12 (when again one of the entries on the list was a future number one) Number 1 - Candy by Robbie Williams reached number one on 10/11/12 Number 2 - Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth featuring Emeli Sandé reached number one on 03/11/12 Number 5 - Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia featuring John Martin reached number one on 20/10/12 Number 6 - Gangnam Style by Psy reached number one on 06/10/12 Number 8 - Diamonds by Rihanna reached number one on 13/10/12 Number 11 - Sweet Nothing by Calvin Harris featuring Florence Welch reached number one on 27/10/12 Number 21 - Hall Of Fame by Script featuring Will.I.Am reached number one on 22/09/12 Number 29 - Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself) by Ne-Yo reached number one on 15/09/12 Number 33 - We Are Young by Fun featuring Janelle Monáe reached number one on 02/06/12 Number 36 - The Power Of Love by Gabrielle Aplin reached number one on 15/12/12 Number 41 - Wings by Little Mix reached number one on 08/09/12 Number 46 - Spectrum (Say My Name) by Florence & The Machine reached number one on 21/07/12 Number 49 - Bom Bom by Sam & The Womp reached number one on 01/09/12 Number 52 - Feel The Love by Rudimental featuring John Newman reached number one on 09/06/12 Number 53 - How We Do (Party) by Rita Ora reached number one on 25/08/12 Number 54 - Payphone by Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa reached number one on 30/06/12 Number 56 - Don't Speak by No Doubt reached number one on 22/02/97 Number 57 - What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction reached number one on 24/09/11 Number 60 - Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen reached number one on 14/04/12 Number 62 - Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra reached number one on 18/02/12 Number 63 - Titanium by David Guetta featuring Sia reached number one on 11/02/12 Number 73 - Heatwave by Wiley featuring Ms D reached number one on 11/08/12 Number 74 - R.I.P. by Rita Ora featuring Tinie Tempah reached number one on 19/05/12 As others have said above, I wouldn't be surprised to see the non-January record threatened soon... June 11, 201412 yr It's at least a small comfort that all of these 1 weekers are actually enduringly popular songs if they're hanging around the top 75 for ages rather than dropping out quickly like a lot of the 2000 chart toppers did. Shame there's no HUGE summer smash on the horizon anywhere seeing as last year we had Get Lucky, Blurred Lines, Wake Me Up, Let Me Go and La La La pretty much at the same time!
June 11, 201412 yr Alternatively, by just hanging around in the 51-75 range they're holding on to chart positions which might otherwise have been taken by new songs (of course these positions have to be earned)
June 11, 201412 yr Author Shame there's no HUGE summer smash on the horizon anywhere seeing as last year we had Get Lucky, Blurred Lines, Wake Me Up, Let Me Go and La La La pretty much at the same time! 'Problem' could come close? (And I assume you mean 'Let Her Go' although I don't blame you for getting confused with so many nearly-identically-titled hits recently )
June 11, 201412 yr Mr Probz has been pretty big and the last run of No1s have sold well - but they wont sell like Get Lucky, Passenger or Blurred Lines because of the held back releases that are dominating in 2014.
June 11, 201412 yr Mr Probz has been pretty big and the last run of No1s have sold well - but they wont sell like Get Lucky, Passenger or Blurred Lines because of the held back releases that are dominating in 2014. Blurred Lines was held back :P As was Wake Me Up yet that managed to be huge, same for La La La.
June 11, 201412 yr Lalala was held back in the traditional sense but Blurred Lines originally had a release date of mid June but was moved forward due to the pre order being so high and was released on the final week of May.

I can't follow your logic here - song A won't sell so well because song B has been held back?
