#351. Crazy Frog - Axel F

4 weeks at #1 in 2005 (#15 of 25 for '05)

This is my thirteenth birthday #1!!! Woo. So this a song that went #1 mostly because of ringtones. This is a cover, which I never knew until now, of the Harold Faltermeyer 1984 instrumental hit. It speeds it up, adds a few modern techno sounds, and most importantly adds a bunch of "brring ding ding ding ding ding brrring ding ding baww baww"'s in there. I find this rather amusing to be honest, and one of the less annoying novelty hits of my lifetime.

Haha, loving it! Good to see the Axel F at this placing! I remember buying the PS2 game for this damn frog.

Flat Beat is also another one of my favourites, and for the reasons you mentioned too, nice!

Haha Crazy Frog really shouldn't be THAT high. It is a cover yes, but the more famous version is by Clock.

Not really. No one ever really mentions the Clock version. The Crazy Frog version was huge back in 2005. Also, check out these chart runs:

Clock - Axel F/Keep Pushin': 14-10-{7}-10-15-24-40-52-56->9

Crazy Frog - Axel F: {1}-1-1-1-2-4-6-8-10-10-13-20-31-48-67-72->16

Also, for reference, here's the original by Harold Faltermeyer: 73-62-62-72-63R(7)-42-30-10-4-{2}-2-2-3-5-12-16-23-25-36-52-60-73->22

#350. Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky

4 weeks at #1 in 2013 (#18 of 30 for '13)

I never "got" this song last year. I'm just not that into disco music and this sounded very boring to me. I get what they were going for, though. In an era full of big heavy dance music, Daft Punk go the complete opposite direction - taking a more minimalistic approach; with the whole 70's throwback thing going on. And created a catchy, funky, danceable tune. I can appreciate it for what it is. It has grown on me, and it's not a bad song, and I like the part when the robotic voices come in.. but it still doesn't do a whole lot for me. :/

#349. Robbie Williams - Candy

2 weeks at #1 in 2012 (#22 of 36 for '12)

Robbie has made many catchy songs with random lyrics that don't make a lot of sense. This is one of them. A song about a spoiled girl with a big ego. This song is very one-note, though.

#348. Steps - Heartbeat / Tragedy

1 week at #1 in 1999 (#20 of 35 for '99)

There often-times comes a song when I wonder "why exactly is this a million-seller?" Yeah, this is one of them. "Heartbeat" is dull as anything. "Tragedy", on the other hand, is just so so so bad. Like it's so bad to the point that it's good. It's like they didn't care at all how bad this was going to be and just had fun with it lol. They're like Atomic Kitten with being so overly happy with a song that isn't. This production is such a copy-cat of "Feel It", though. I can't stop laughing at the dancing in this video.

#347. Jessie J feat. B.o.B - Price Tag

2 weeks at #1 in 2011 (#20 of 30 for '11)

This was one of my personal chart #1's, but I'm undecided if I still like this or not. I prefer "Do It Like A Dude", though. "Price Tag" is catchy, but it sounds like every other Dr Luke song. The production is very "Party In The U.S.A." The message in this song is obvious and it's been done before. We don't need money to be happy. It borderlines on being a bit preachy.

#346. George Michael & Queen with Lisa Stansfield - Five Live (E.P.)

3 weeks at #1 in 1993 (#10 of 15 for '93)

These bloody E.P.'s. Like ABBA-Esque, I listened to this in full also. But I'm basing this ranking off of "Somebody To Love" alone since that's the first track, and it seems to be the most well known of the covers. This came about not long after Freddie's death. It's live recordings from the concert that was in tribute to him. It features George singing two Queen classics (with some Lisa Stansfield thrown in there), along with three other live covers, and a further Queen cover as a bonus track. I feel like he does each track justice; though it borders on tedium a bit. "Somebody To Love" being the main highlight on this E.P. I feel like he really captures the energy of the song, which makes it work well live. Whether this E.P. makes a fitting tribute to the late Freddie? I don't know.

I'm a bit indifferent about these songs. All kind of middle of the road for me. 'Candy' is fun, I guess.

You're right about the reason for Daft Punk as well. But the song is very tame and average sounding, just doesn't go anywhere for me.

I appreciate George Michael's tribute to Freddie Mercury and it works well. I guess you would have had to have 'been there' to truly appreciate why this was a thing.

#345. Chipmunk feat. Dayo Olatunji - Oopsy Daisy

1 week at #1 in 2009 (#20 of 32 for '09)

I always forget this exists. This isn't that bad, though. This song is about this girl that keeps breaking his heart. But Ms D (credited by her real name) admits that it's her fault. She wants to break it off, but she doesn't want to hurt him, so she keeps playing these games to make him be the one to leave. I really like the "I'm a walking disaster.." part for some reason.

#344. Eva Cassidy & Katie Melua - What A Wonderful World

1 week at #1 in 2007 (#11 of 17 for '07)

They both sound lovely on this, but I find it really dull and not something I'd listen to out of choice very often. A ranking based almost exclusively on their voices alone.

#343. Sam And The Womp - Bom Bom

1 week at #1 in 2012 (#21 of 36 for '12)

"I'm the cat with the bass and drum!" I like the trombone in this. This just isn't the same without the video. So much randomness in it (I think she eats a balloon at one point). The utter nonsensicalness of this song just makes it a fun for me.

#342. A1 - Same Old Brand New You

1 week at #1 in 2000 (#27 of 42 for '00)

This sounds like an *NSYNC reject. It has that 2000 Max Martin sound. That said, I usually like those productions, and this is a pretty catchy song. Not that memorable but whatever.

#341. Sugababes - About You Now

4 weeks at #1 in 2007 (#10 of 17 for '07)

This was produced by Dr Luke in the days before he got his hands on Katy & Ke$ha. At the time, he was notable for producing hit songs for Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne and P!nk (among others). Though, this was, surprisingly, his first UK #1. This was the lead single from the Sugababes' 5th album, and their first full length album featuring their third line-up (Keisha/Amelle/Heidi). I'm not sure how this sounded in 2007, but I find this sounds incredibly dated and basic listening to it now. It just doesn't do a lot for me. The second line-up was and always will be my favourite. Probably why I find that this just doesn't sound like a Sugababes song to me. It sounds rather anonymous, actually. And I have no idea who Miranda Cosgrove is.

Just watched the 'Bom Bom' video for the first time in this thread and you're right! The song was good in its own right but the randomness of the video adds to its charm!

Although, I feel like they were somewhat influenced by Deee-Lite's 'Groove Is In The Heart' music video. Still, charming nonetheless!

#340. Wretch 32 feat. Josh Kumra - Don't Go

1 week at #1 in 2011 (#19 of 30 for '11)

The most unlikely #1 of the year. And it wasn't even a dead week - it beat "Heaven" and "Moves Like Jagger" to the top spot. The production is very minimalistic; and it stands out a lot from other 2011 hits. This song is about him putting into words just how much this girl means to him and how he doesn't want her to.. well.. go. The backing "ooh-yeah-yay"'s work well. Josh's parts sound like they're a sample from another song; but they're not.

#339. Five - Let's Dance

So much auto-tune. And not a lot going on lyrically. But I like this for some, and I don't really know why. I don't have much else to say on this one lol.

#338. Geri Halliwell - It's Raining Men

2 weeks at #1 in 2001 (#16 of 30 for '01)

Geri sounds so much better on uptempo songs - compared to say, "Lift Me Up". This song in itself is ridiculous enough in its original form. Geri's over the top camp-ness makes it just as amusing. I wish she did more songs like this. The main downfall is that this song is almost too big for her.

#337. Westlife - Flying Without Wings

1 week at #1 in 1999 (#19 of 35 for '99)

Doesn't surprise me that this was Ruben Studdard's winner's single on American Idol. This song sounds exactly the type of song that would be used on one of Cowell's shows. It's a typical ballad, but this was before Westlife went into ballad overload and it is an original song. Plus it doesn't sound dull like their other ballads. It actually builds to something. It's a bit on the cheesy side, but that's fine. I think this is one of their better written songs; along with "What Makes A Man". It's about how everyone finds something or someone they love and how that makes them feel sky high, or something like that.

So "Swear It Again" vs "Uptown Girl". Which is my favourite Westlife #1? Did either make the top 300?
