So disappointing, just urgh.

Ref bottled sending Godin off at 0-0 after 30 mins, that's always a yellow card, absolutely bottled it.

Rooney showed why he starts, England's best player easily tonight, Sterling nowhere near as effective as he was Saturday. Sturridge was absolutely terrible, apart from 5 minutes after we equalised where he seemed to spring into life, just awful. Welbeck meh, Henderson better than Gerrard, don't think he's recovered from that slip, just poor all round

What's difficult to take, is they scored against the run of play, but let's be honest we were bad tonight.

I was in a crowded bar, but to me Sterling was played out wide? Rooney in the hole? While I think Rooney did an OK job, Sterling is just better. He's faster, more dynamic. A major problem England have is our build-up is so slow. You saw the same problem with Spain. Teams just know how to counter it. We don't really have the quality to play that style of football, too often our final balls are awful.

Gerrard plays as a defensive midfielder for England, and a deep lying playmaker for Liverpool. If he doesn't have the support, he gets exposed, as shown tonight. Truth be told, I think Hodgson is far too conservative for us.

Suarez though. Unbelievable talent. Just pray he stays at Liverpool.

All you guys need is Italy to win both games left and win from Costa Rica with a 2 or mroe goals difference

That's if Italy don't thrash Costa Rica. ;)

Guess who I'm supporting tomrorow.

That of course is true, it depends on how badly Italy trashes Urugay and Costa Rica.

I want Italy to win ofcourse as I've got a multibet on them

If it goes the other way and Costa Rica win I'll be supporting us to completely capitulate on Tuesday and give CR a 9 pointer. Which is a more unlikely scenario than the one where we get through thankfully but I'm treating this as a sign we're out.

We really did play pretty badly tonight, especially as far as Suarez is concerned. Just not ready to be anywhere near contention for major tournaments right now.

I just don't understand the fascination with the 4-2-3-1 formation that we play? I don't actually think any of our starting players actually play with it.. bafflinfootg! We have the players to play attacking, fluid, aggressive football.

Dear Ms May,

As Home Secretary you have the power to ban people from entering the UK. There's a bloke called Suarez who will be attempting to return to this country next month. Perhaps you would like to exercise that power.

Yours sincerely,

Suedehead

Hodgson was an idiot, calling Suarez not world class.

Press get Rooney where they want him, and we look toothless.

But Rooney was our best player though? In each of our matches our best player by far has been the one playing at no. 10. Sturridge was absolutely woeful tonight, passing, shooting, touch, decision making. If Rooney had played even half as bad as him he'd have got absolutely slated. He was responsible for too much breaking down.

Sterling is an excellent talent but he tried to do too much, particularly early on, which put is in danger at times. It's OK taking responsibility and gambling, but you've got to know when to be sensible too. Don't see what his position has to do with that.

But we played better against Italy than we did against Uruguay. The only difference was that Sterling played #10 in the former, and Rooney in the latter. I think Rooney is a good player, but I just don't think he's fast, or quick enough. Play Lallana, and then Sterling in the number 10 role. Playing Sterling out wide just negates his talent. He's so much better when he's in the game, and stuff comes through him directly. He was awfully inconsistent when he played out wide for Liverpool last season, infact I'm sure if you find Liverpool forums from the Hull away game, they were saying he was never going to live towards his potential.

Simply to me, Hodgson just bottled it. You move your best player from the previous game out wide, to compensate for Rooney. Poor management in my books. You can't say whether it would have worked or not, but the blame lies with Roy. He just didn't have the balls to drop Rooney.

Because, as we, know, the only variable as to how a team plays is where two of its attackers are positioned.

Rooney was our best player tonight, Sterling showed the other side of his game. Doesn't know what to do when defenders don't let him past.

And am I missing something or was their second goal about a mile offside?

I'm glad Rooney didn't do himself a disservice. After the first match I think pretty much everyone was gunning for him and the media would only love to hound him. I hope he can perform as well in match three too.
I genuinely believe that England will still qualify in the World Cup. I'm sure England will defeat Costa Rica with Italy defeating Uruguay. I don't think England deserved to win tonight - they were rather poor, although saying that they were unlucky to go behind.
They'll need a bit of luck on their side though, and they really need to hope they score a few goals too.

Yes but if the Italy-Costa Rica match is a draw, then England are out today as both those teams would be on 4 points.

No, the ball came of Gerrard. Cavani didn't touch it.

The goals bit isn't really true, as we've only lost both our matches by 1 goal, if the scenario of three teams finishing on 3 points happens, we're already guaranteed to be ahead of Uruguay. Costa Rica would have to lose one of their matches by more than 1 for us to be level with them. England could go through with a 1-0 win.

If we do scrape through it'll be the first time ever, according to the BBC, that any team has progressed from the group stage having lost their first two matches. Three points has seen progression once but that was after 3 draws.
