I cannot think of a reason to justify their "complete my album" thing but it is clear that their sales estimations are way off.

But it makes no sense. I'm sure iTunes has data on how many people use "complete my album" when that does happen. And I'm pretty sure stuff like 'Hold It Against Me' dropped off the digital chart when the album was released but didn't have "aggregate" sales made up for it.

Yeah, they changed it I think in early 2013.

I remember songs from people like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber (and the Britney example you mentioned) used to have big drops on album release week due to complete my album (which some could argue is also wrong, since is the song's popularity actually decreasing that week?). But when Justin Timberlake's album was released his songs saw boosts on the Hot 100, and ever since then it's stayed like that (with Drake, Avicii, etc.).
