Spotify is the most used streaming service so it's about time it had its own thread like how iTunes does, will be useful to see what's streaming well on a regular basis.

From the looks of that, streaming would have probably helped Ella bridge the gap this week and get a 3rd week at the top. It probably would have given her the few thousand she's likely to be behind by. Idina's doing quite well still too, so that should keep her around for a while yet. Amazing longevity. She should easily get to half a million sales.

lol. Literally the day they add streaming to the chart. :lol: I can understand it though I guess, they might not agree with the royalty rate artists get, but they won't want to hurt their artists in the chart (although in the US some people like Taylor Swift and Rihanna kept their music off for streaming even after it got included in their chart, and it hurt their chart success a bit).

 

I have seen some DJ Fresh songs on Spotify in the past. Like there was a remix of Louder which was on there from a compilation album, but it got deleted after a while (I guess his label found out about it).

We will have to find that out this time next week.

 

Either way, Am I Wrong won't go top 40 on streams alone as it'll need at least 800,000 streams per week to do so (which only the top 3 here seem to have)

The OCC have been tweeting their usual Monday routine of contenders for this weeks top spot but with a streaming twist suggesting songs like Sing & All of Me are contenders for No1 this week - but All of Me will get less than 5k extra sales with streams added or am i wrong?

As for the first part I'm pretty sure they just include anything that's in the top 10 as a 'contender' to make it seem like it's an open race when it isn't at all. Note that they've also included Sam Smith, Sia, DJ Fresh, Mr Probz etc.

What's the reason for songs taking a couple of weeks to take off on streaming? Why wouldn't you want to start streaming something as soon as it's available?

 

It makes me wonder if a lot of people using Spotify/Deezer etc...base their streaming on the charts on those respective platforms so don't really notice the songs until they start climbing those.

 

It's just weird that people are happy to download songs the minute they get released yet it's different for streaming. Could lead to a lot of songs climbing in their second week perhaps.

I think the lack of pre-orders on Spotify mean that if you search a song that'll be released soon there will be no results, so you can't get reminded that a certain song is out when it is.

 

For example, if I search for Crazy Stupid Love by Cheryl Cole the only results I get are fake versions.

 

So it'll take time for people to realise that a song that wasn't available for streaming now is, and I'm sure presence on the top 100 would help. I imagine the record companies will find a way to make songs have high first-week streams, like they did with downloads.
