Posted September 6, 200618 yr Albarn's Chinese circus Virgin.net Busy Blur singer Damon Albarn is to write the music for a Chinese circus production in Manchester next year. The Gorillaz star has agreed to pen the score for a special show, which will be performed at the Manchester International Festival in June 2007, and also in Paris and Berlin later in 2007. Albarn agreed to take part in the project, which will be called 'Monkey: Journey to the West', after a visit to China where he recorded music with a number of local musicians. The results of the sessions will feature in the show, which will be roughly based on the traditional Chinese story 'The Monkey King'. The show will be directed by Chinese theatre star Chen Shi-Zheng with the set to be designed by Albarn's Gorillaz collaborator Jamie Hewlett. The news comes just weeks after Albarn announced another new project, 'The Good, The Bad and The Queen'. The group, which will also feature former Clash bass player Paul Simonon and former Verve keyboard player Simon Tong, will perform at the BBC Electric Proms event at the London Roundhouse on October 26.
