Penelope Cruz

http://www.hollywoodhairstyle.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Penelope-Cruz-without-makeup.jpg

Penelope Cruz represents the beauty of Mediterranean women in Hollywood (Monica Bellucci too). She is the most famous Spanish actress and I'm sure that everyone knows her name all around the world. She is also the muse of Pedro Almodovar. She made her acting debut at 16 on television! Her fist film was the Spanish movie Jamon, Jamon (1992) and critics loved it! She is the leading actress in many Almodovar's films but the peak of her career was in "Volver" with her first nomination at the Academy Awards for "Best Leading Actress". However, she won the Academy Award for her role in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" two years later (Best Supporting Actress). She was married to Javier Bardem and they have already two children. Her filmography is quite big for an European actress. Joespassmore is her biggest fan here.

I have watched some of her movies : All About My Mother (very nice story, Almodovar at his best), All the Pretty Horses (a little bit forgettable), Woman on Top (average but entertaining too), Blow (very overrated movie, a little bit boring too), Captain Corelli's Mandolin (boring movie but Kefalonia is wonderful island and the scenery is 10/10), Vanilla Sky (I found this very interesting story with nice cast), Waking Up in Reno (Quite bad), Fanfan la Tulipe (A french novel but not something exciting), Gothika (One of my best movies that year, I found it quite good but I have to watch it again), Head in the Clouds (Quite forgettable with some lesbian scenes for controversy), Sahara (A little bit silly/Golden Razzies love it!), Bandidas (Entertaining movie and I think that Shakira with Rihanna should have this concept for their videoclip "Can't Remember to Forget You"), Volver ( Her perfromance was great, Almodovar has always something good to give to his viewers), Vicky Cristina Barcelona (Woody Allen is my favourite writer because he is genius but I don't thnik that it's his best film to date. It's good though/I think that "Doubt" nominations were robbed by Penelope that year). Broken Embraces (Very nice movie and the performances were good), Nine (I'm not a fan of musicals but I didn't feel that I wasted my time watching that movie. I believe that Fergie's performance was the best), Pirates of the Caribbean : On Stranger Tides (I like Pirates of the Caribbean series but they are very forgettable for blockbusters), To Rome with Love (I laughed so much at the cinema, Woody Allen always write the most clever quotes in Hollywood).

I would suggest you to watch "All About My Mother" because it's a meaningful movie with full of social messages, Vanilla Sky (If you like strange movies), Gothika (if you like supernatural horror films with mystery), Volver because Penelope totally shines with her acting, Vicky Christina Barcelona (if you like controversial characters/stories) and Rome with Love because it has three funny different stories with heavy doses of irony.

Your commentary insomnio 💖

What do you mean? Is it so bad? My english vocabulary is not so rich but I try.. :)

Rachel doesn't have children with Daniel :P she has a son by someone else and he has a daughter by someone else.

But yes, she was amazing in The Bourne Legacy, great chemistry with Jeremy Renner.

What a mess today. I thought that they had a child. Their personal stuff is not my best but I refer it only when they are both famous. They had chemistry and both of them were good. I just read that Renner will return as Aaron Cross. However, I believe that his best performance was in "The Town".

I really liked "Wicker Park" but it was a bitter story. Surely, Diane is not the best European actress and I think that the fact that she is a model played an important role to her popularity in Hollywood. You have already watched many movies of Sigourney Weaver..Could you suggesst me one of them? Which do you believe that is her best movie? I have already watched the movies which they are bolded in your answer.

I honestly cannot say which is her best movie, but I do suggest that you watch "Copycat", "The Ice Storm" or another fantastic role for her that has just come to mind "Death And The Maiden" from 1994, that's a definate must see

I can't wait for someone I know well to appear

BTW Insomnio I think you're commentary is very good and very insightful, just great.

Rachel Weisz Another fantastic actress and I did actually enjoy the first two Mummy films, I thought that they were quite fun, but the 3rd one was terrible and especially when they replaced her with Maria Bello (It just wasn't the same, and couldn't enjoy it), But the Mummy films did make her a breakthrough star. I do agree that her movies are hit and miss, but I did enjoy Stealing Beauty, The Land Girls (with Anna Friel), Beautiful Creatures, About A Boy, Runaway Jury, The Constant Gardner (well deserved Oscar win), The Lovely Bones (I read the book as well, and totally loved it and the film was great as well and The Bourne Legacy was really good and she did make her role memorable and not the usual female fodder. Her misses in my opinion are = Enemy At The Gates (very dull and forgettable, Envy (with Ben Stiller and Jack Black, not funny and quite terrible, her role was wasted), Constantine (just an awful mess), The Fountain (overlong and boring, she was the only decent thing in it), Fred Claus (another unfunny Vince Vaughn playing himself movie) and Dream House (everybody was wasted in this dull mess and very predictable).

Penelope Cruz Another talented actress but haven't seen that many of her movies. But I hated Vanilla Sky, better off watching the original "Open Your Eyes" spanish version in which she also starred in, much much better, instead of the Tom Cruise starring bandwagon. But her other roles I did enjoy All About My Mother which was fantastic, Woman On Top, Blow, Volver, Vicky Christina Barcelona (worth watching just brilliant, Gothika and The Counselor (even though Cameron Diaz steals the show, but Penelope was fantastic aswell). Her misses are Vanilla Sky, Captain Corelli's Mandolin (another terrible Nicolas Cage movie), Sahara (although quite fun, but not worth seeing twice) and Pirates Of The Caribbean : On Stranger Tides (a pointless sequel and not a fan of the franchise anyway).

Our tv channels used to play this movie almost every week but I cannot watch a movie with so many intermissions. "The Ice Storm" looks promising. I really didn't know that movie ("Death and the Maiden"). I will try to watch them the next weeks. Sigourney Weaver has proved her value in the cinema.

I can't wait for someone I know well to appear

Thank you so much, Niall! I didn't know that they filmed third Mummy (Oh mommy :drama: ). Stealing Beauty was directed by Bertolucci..? I should have read "The Lovely Bones" too. The Fountain was overlong and boring but it had value as a movie (direction, cinematography, soundtrack). I totally agree that "Dream House" was predictacle. I thought that it would have mystery and horror atmosphere but we watched a scary movie for babes..

Kathy Bates

http://www.gonemovies.com/www/Raketnet/Drama/TitMolly1.jpg

What an amazing actress!! Kathy Bates is well-known for the most evil woman in the history of cinema. She was excellent as Annie Wilkes and the critics praised her for this achievement! She won the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for "Best Actress" and her popularity began to rise after this movie. She also played "Molly Brown" in Titanic. She has many movies to her filmography and she was nominated for 12 Emmy Awards so far!! Bates has successfully battled ovarian cancer since her diagnosis in 2003. In September 2012, she revealed via Twitter that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer two months earlier and had undergone a double mastectomy. F*cking life! PaulM1983 is her best fan here.

I have also wached some of her movies : Dick Tracy (I really don't remember her but the movie was nice for those years), Misery (The words are necessary / Stephen King is my favourite author!/Kathy is flawless), Titanic (I have to admit that it's one of my favourite movies ever because I admire James Cameron for his direction / Kathy played a dynamic character), American Outlaws (forgettable movie), Dragonfly (One of the most weird films that I'ever watched), About Schmidt (funny movie with Jack Nicholson and her / nominated for Best Leading Actress), Around the world in 80 days (The producers still try to forget it), Little Black Book (This is not bad, it's evil), Rumor has it..(I thought that it would be a decent movie / Hollywood Alert! / Stay Away from it), Failure to Launch (I really enjoyed this because it's funny / but silly too), P.S I Love You (A sad but cute love story / nice performances), The Day the Earth Stood Still (Boring / I expected something "wow" but it never happened), Revolutionary Road (Great movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett / It worth a watch) and Midnight in Paris (One of my favourite movies that year / It has something dated but magic too).

I would suggesst you to watch Dick Tracy (even Madonna was decent there) because it's a nice 90's movie, Misery because it's great and you know it, Titanic (I know that you will blame me because of the romantic part of the movie but the direction was "WOW" for those years. Blockbusters were remarkable in 90's), P.S I Love You (especially for sensitive and romantic people), Revolutionary Road because the story has something to say to everyone and Midnight in Paris because Woody was at his best and you will see how important is to appreciate the things around you.

Kathy Bates Another fantastic actress who doesn't always get the credit or decent roles she deserves, but totally agree about "Misery" her performance sent shivers down my spine and an excellent movie. Fried Green Tomatoes was another great role for her and Delories Claiborne was truly intense where she really gave it her all alongside Jennifer Jason Leigh and plus it's another Stephen King classic as well, Titanic, Primary Colours and even comedies like The Waterboy she was fantastic and even in the TV show American Horror Story she shines.

I haven't watched "Dolores Claiborne" yet but I really want to read the book. I used to read a lot of Stephen King books.

Jamie Lee Curtis

http://www.jigneshbapna.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/jamie-lee-curtis.jpg

I think that many teenagers loved this woman in the late of 70's and 80's!! She is well-known for her role in Halloween as Laurie Strode. She was initially known as a "scream queen" (buzzjack knows better this) because of her starring roles in several horror films early in her career but she choosed funny roles later. She has a lot of successful comedies in her filmography and she is still so likeable to the new generations. Jamie Lee Curtis is a great actress with strong personality and nice short haircut! She is the daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh (Psycho says hi). She is married to actor, screenwriter, and director Christopher Guest. She is also famous philanthropist.I want to believe that everone realises that Jamie is one of the most amazing personalities in Hollywood. Her movies are always enjoyable too. Nial Minogue appreciates her for her acting ability and he had her name on his list.

I have also watched many of her movies so far : Halloween (Very scary, great soundtrack, horror fans "totally love it"), Escape from New York (Very good action film but she hadn't a basic role/She is the narrator of the story), Halloween II (Not so good as the first one), Perfect (It was one of the flops that year /1985), A Fish Called Wanda (Very clever movie, great perfromances), My Girl (Movie especially for lovers and romantic single people), My Girl 2 (It's quite good), True Lies (I expected a bad movie but it was entertaining as hell!), Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (They filmed this because of the popularity of Scream that year), Virus (a box office flop but it wasn't so bad), Drowning Mona (Very funny movie but Bette Midler "steal the show"), The Tailor of Panama (Nice movie) and Freaky Friday (I enjoyed this, very funny movie, decent remake).

Now I realised that I had a long time to watch her in a new movie. I don't know the reason but I really want her to be relevant again. I would suggest you to watch "Halloween" but I'm sure that you have already watched it, Escape from New York because it's a classic 80's movie, A Fish Called Wanda because you will laugh enough and it has a genius script, My girl (it will make you cry), True Lies because it's so exciting movie and Jamie had a great chemistry with Arnorld, Drowning Mona because it's funny as hell and it has a great cast and Freaky Friday because it's one of the best movies for relaxing at home with good company.

Jamie Lee Curtis Now I do remember voting for her, she is just fantastic and can play any role, she is highly underrated and the reason she don't act much anymore is she told Access Hollywood that she closed the door on acting to focus on her family life in 2006, but she did return briefly in 2008 for children's movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua and 2010's "You Again" alongside Sigourney Weaver which was fun and she's also made an appearance in the Veronica Mars movie of this year as well as TV roles in NCIS and New Girl. But I remember growing and first seeing her in "Halloween" which I loved and is still one of my all time fave slasher movies, and "The Fog" which is very creepy (stay away from the 2005 remake). Other slasher movies "Prom Night" which was great and alongside Lesile Nielson has a fun mystery element where she yet again the final girl and "Terror Train" which isn't as good, but she gives a great chase scene in it. "Halloween 2" I actually liked and it's much better than 90% of the sequels and does carry on the story quite well. Others I enjoyed "Trading Places" was funny, her role as a hooker was quite fun, A Fish Called Wanda which again one of my all time faves, cop thriller "Blue Steel" was quite gritty but also good, My Girl a heartwarming family movie (wasn't keen on the sequel), "Mother's Boys" where she plays a psycho mother was also quite fun and great too see her playing something different, although the ending sucked. Halloween H20 a great comeback for her to slashers and she kicked ass, Nicolas Gift is also quite heartbreaking, "Virus" again seeing her in horror kicks ass, Freaky Friday she outshines Lindsay Lohan in my opinion. So yeah she is just fantastic.

Damn. Kathy deserves more than that! Wonderful actress. Annie Wilkes is one of the best movie villains ever and she was played to absolute perfection.

Insomnio you should definitely watch Delores Claiborne. It's fantastic. Well worth reading the book too though, it's great.

Very interested to see where some of my higher rates have come in. I've been quite shocked at some of the actresses who received points so far (Selena Gomez, I'm side-eyeing you).

You're her ultimate fan then.. :P Your explanation about her movies is 10/10!! I really don't know about her focus on her family. So, she is like Celine Dion in music industry. I haven't watched "You Again yet" but a combination of her and Sigourney Weaver has to be something amazing (I guess hilarious too)!! I watched the remake of "The Fog" but I liked it. Maybe because I haven't watched the original version yet.

Kathy Bates is simply great and critics always praise her for her talent. Buzzjack has many young people for members that's why Selena Gomez is in this rate. I guess that if I did a male version of this rate, Justin Bieber would be one of them.. :P I haven't watched any of her movies but I guess that she is not as good as Hilary Swank (She is not in this list :o). I really want to watch "Dolores Clairborne" because Stephen King has fantastic books and his imagination is always out of limits..

Lisa Kudrow

http://thepcprinciple.com/pcp/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Lisa-Kudrow-in-The-Comeba-008.jpg

Lisa Kudrow is an American actress and she is very famous for her participation in the television sitcom "Friends" as Phoebe. She was the most funny character for me and I always laughed when she sang her own songs with her guitar to every episode. She hasn't played in many movies because she usually chooses roles for television. She was nominated for her television characters many times in the past but the peak of her career was her Emmy Award in 1998!! She has a lot of fans around the world because of her exposure in Friends. All we know that Friends is one of the most successful tv series worldwide and it would not be so funny without Phoebe. However, most of her movies are not very successful and she has some terrible movies in her filmography. Ketalina likes Lisa and he voted for her.

I have watched some of her movies : Analyze This (funny but overrated too), Lucky Numbers (I don't remember it), Dr Dollittle 2 (very funny /She gave her voice), Analyze That (Quite bad), Marci X (One of my worst movies that year), P.S I Love You (A movie for lovers and single romantic people), Neighbors (Hilarious/a raw movie).

I would suggest you P.S I Love You because it's a very nice movie with likeable characters and Neighbors because it's one of the most entertaining movies this year!

LOVE Kathy Bates- especially in the 4th best film ever (Titanic) and revolutionary road

Love JLC in Christmas with the kranks

Didn't realise Megan Fox was in confessions of a teenage drama queen. That is a terrible movie (though Lohan was forgiven two months later)

Also really like Kristen, Rachel and Sigourney. Great actresses

Edited by Ultraviolence

On the earlier actresses

Reese Witherspoon is amazing. Love her so much, especially in four Christmases

Jessica Chastain is just amazing. One of my favourite actresses at the moment. Loved her in the help

Like Eva Green

Scarlett is amazing. She's been in so many great films- the marvel ones, hitchcock and so many more

Jennifer Connelly is great. Loved her in winters tale and Noah

And I am one of Amanda Bynes biggest fans. She is so amazing, especially in hairspray where she stills every scene and is just great as Penny- one of the best performances of 2007. Glad she's getting better
