'Waves' has now gained the most weeks from streaming with 7 extra weeks.

There's a joke in there. Streams lead to bigger waves? I'll work on it.

There's only 1 good song in that entire batch of 8 (Andy C obv) so it's very much the poor replacing the poor this week. But that's annoying for Prayer In C, I thought such an arbitrary huge drop at this stage seemed odd.

Yet Spotify have not bothered to fix the error costing a few more weeks for Prayer in C.

Nice to have a week with lots of new entries and none of them missing out on a top 40 hit due to streaming for once.

Was very surprised to see MAGIC! in the top 40 on sales, it was only 2 weeks ago that streaming kept them inside the top 40 :o

All because of the Now 89 effect.

35 (42) Maroon 5 - Animals

Maroon 5 become the first group to have extra multiple top 40 weeks with two respective singles whilst Last Christmas is the oldest entry to gain a week 30 years after it's original release.

Take Me To Church also becomes the highest charting song at #27 not to be top 40 on sales since streaming was added and it is the first time that two songs have made the overall top 30 while not even being in the sales top 40 that week.

No milestones to report this week.

Well there is one - 'Listen To The Man' has matched the record for most weeks lost (with 'Iron Sky' and 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This', the former of which of course also never made the top 40). Hope it can still make it eventually but it's looking doubtful now!

It may miss a fourth week in the top 40 due to streaming. As for OLCHLT, at least it's been in the top 40

Gains

(31) 41 Hozier - Take Me To Church

(36) 48 Ed Sheeran - Sing

(37) 47 Sia - Chandelier

(39) 51 Mr Probz - Waves

Losses

(46) 27 Nicole Scherzinger - Run

(49) 31 Pitbull feat. John Ryan - Fireball

(50) 34 Andy C and Fiora - Heartbeat Loud

(51) 36 The Script - No Good In Goodbye

'Waves' has now gained the most weeks from streaming with 7 extra weeks.

Incidentally Lilly Wood's drop this week definitely seems to be down to the Spotify error, it is actually HIGHER on sales than overall this week (by one place). The streams (and presumably sales) of the original and remix are not being combined, the remix dropping 12-36 on the streaming chart this week with the original debuting at #58. I'd complain if I wasn't totally bored of the song.

Well that explains it! At first I was thinking :yahoo: and at the same time, how on earth did that happen?

This week's changes and a very fascinating one

Gains

(20) 41 Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You

(28) 68 Wham - Last Christmas

(37) 55 Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday

(38) 79 Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone

(39) 46 Mr Probz - Waves

Losses

(42) 34 The Script - Superheroes

(46) 33 Wealdstone Raider - Got No Fans

(47) 40 Wretch 32 - 6 Words

(48) 38 George Ezra - Listen To The Man

(52) 39 Gorgon City feat Jennifer Hudson - Go All Night

Shaky breaks the record for most positions gained for an extra week in the top 40 by a massive 41 places as well as Merry Christmas Everyone being the first ever single to be top 40 officially while not even top 75 on sales. All I Want For Christmas Is You is the first entry to be top 20 officially but not top 40 on sales. Mr Probz stretches his extra weeks gained record further but Listen To The Man becomes the first song to lose four weeks top 40.

Wow at Shakin' Stevens! (And Mariah to a lesser note), love to see what kind of figures they got on Xmas day. Some good songs losing out but it's Christmas so I'll allow it :)

The Mariah and Shaky situations are still very much exceptions at this stage due to the absolutely massive level of streaming Xmas songs receive, although it will probably become a more common occurrence with 'normal' songs before too long.

'Waves' extending its lead for weeks gained by streaming, this is now its eighth, 2 more than any other song. 'Listen To The Man' also becomes the first song to lose an entire month :(
