I'm surprised to not see Animals and Take Me To Church gain places from streaming despite both featuring just outside the spotify top 10 for a couple of weeks now

Hozier peaked on sales before streaming started to pick up for him.

that reminds me actually Hozier should be updated too now that he's officially peaked at #25, down 4 on his sales peak. First post has all relevant updates.
Wonder if/when we'll ever get a song only go top 40 due to streaming.

Megan Trainor - "All About That Bass" entered the top 40 at number 33, the same day it was officially released

True, I should have worded it better. As in one that only "ever" goes top 40 due to streaming. I realise this criteria never could be fully satisfied as time is endless and it could always re-enter but as in at least in it's initial chart run, similarly to how The Days by Avicii has gone top 100 only due to streaming.

We've so far had songs which missed the top 40 due to streaming and songs which missed the top 10 due to streaming, but we've never had a song which failed to reach number 1 due to streaming.

Wretch 32 actually benefitting from streams :o Only because Taylor isn't on streams though.

Poor Andy C missing the chart :(

Differences between minus 15 and minus 20 are becoming common place now. :o

No Band Aid 30 on streams and minimal streaming for Gareth Malone also contribute to Wretch 32's higher position officially.

Well they were both ahead on sales as well so not really! I suppose it meant he was a bit closer to them than he'd otherwise have been but it didn't affect his position.

OCC need to remove streaming from the singles chart like they removed compilations from the album chart. Same principle. People moaning about songs not entering the top 40 because of streaming like they did with albums not entering the top 40 because of compilations

Then how many sales would be left in a few years?

Not a lot but streaming is keeping songs which have been in the top 40 for ages ie. "Sing", "Stay With Me", "Waves". If it wasn't for streaming, those songs would be gone from the top 40. It's also stopping brand new music from entering the top 40.

Stay With Me hasn't gained a single week from streaming :P I agree that streaming is definitely slowing down the charts a bit but it's necessary to move forward. I can't see downloads slowing down as much as physicals did, cause downloading and streaming are two very different things, rather than downloading just being a more up to date way of buying a physical, so they most likely won't sink as low, at least not for the time being.

I thought streaming would affect most of those a lot more than they did. I expected McBusted, James Bay and Y&Y to lose a lot more places than that.

"Happy" didn't gain any extra weeks due to streaming. The amount of weeks it was in the top 40 would have been exactly the same without streaming
