Some of these latest ones aren't to my tastes (the Cybermen ones and Bad Wolf for example) but Midnight and The Eleventh Hour certainly are, the latter felt like a huge breath of fresh air revitalising the franchise and the former is a fantastic character piece. I haven't seen any Doctor Who episodes for months and I could probably watch ones like those easily.

Planet of the Ood is very underrated I feel so glad to see it so high here, a really great episode. Bad Wolf is a lot of fun too, the idea of the gameshows was really spot on.

Silence in the Library

http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111028002302/tardis/images/2/2e/Silence_in_the_Library_359.jpg

I can't remember a lot about this episode (yet again), but from what I do remember it was an incredible way to kick off a two-parter. Obviously the big thing about this one was introducing a woman that knew everything about the Doctor, knew all of his faces and all of the times they had together, but the Doctor knew not a single thing about her - this was the first time he met her, but the last time she would meet him. Professor River Song would (in the Doctor's time) go on to marry him, the Doctor would discover that she is his future companions' daughter, and that she was the woman who was functioned to kill him by the rogue chapter of the Silence - but less about that and more about this story! The whole CAL story was a very interesting one - it was great to have an adventure set in the mind of a young child, especially when it was reaching through to the real world and people were being killed off one by one by the Vashta Nerada - a terrifying force that would strip you of skin and everything else, and the only way you could tell is if you had more than one shadow. It was all very very well written, even if not one of Moffat's *best* scripts. I suggest y'all watch the trailer I've linked to below as well because it's f***ing amazing.

The Girl in the Fireplace

This is an exceptional episode that I would have assumed should be in the top 10, but alas has failed to make it. Moffat really does excel when he writes historical episodes, particularly ones of this calibre. I remember all the rumours flying around before it was announced Jenna Coleman would be the next companion that Reinette was a possibility, and sometimes I wonder how amazing it would have been had she actually returned, as her character or otherwise, because there would have been some amazing stories in there somewhere I'm sure! Anyway, back to this episode. It really is quite an emotional one, the scene where the Doctor lets Reinette see into his mind is beautiful, that was one of the best from the episode, but the Clockwork Droids make this a particularly stellar episode. Using body parts to repair themselves and make themselves more superior than they believe they already are, it was a very gruesome, but a very very clever idea. And it was expanded in a very fruitful way in 'Deep Breath'. I'm really glad this was a Rose-and-Mickey-lite episode, because it really gave David some time to shine in his first series without a companion there, even though there was one by his side all the way, with a tragically fatal ending.

The Doctor Dances

http://www.bbc.co.uk/staticarchive/a3bbd4577e5af598bb0e06da5a01c862be74a70b.jpg

Ahh, 'The Doctor Dances'. This was the second part of a two-part story for series 1 and it was written by the finest of the finest himself, Steven Moffat. Behind 'Blink' (which seems to be the more conventional and popular choice of the two stories, although sometimes I don't understand why), this is definitely one of his scariest pieces of work, and by far, one of the scariest stories there has been on Doctor Who! The idea of a little child in a gas mask (and later on, loads of people in gas masks) wandering around a Blitz-torn London in search of his mother uttering the truly chilling line "Are you my mummy?"... It's all just too much to take, and I can never watch this at night-time and if I do it's normally a 'sleep with the lights on' or 'don't go to sleep until I absolutely *HAVE* to' type scenario. :kink: One of the best moments in this episode is definitely the moment the Doctor reunites Jamie with his mother Nancy - who is probably one of the most underrated one-time companions (if she is deserving of that title; guest star for want of a better phrase), and then of course the moment where one of the soldiers turns into a gas mask zombie - that was truly chilling!

The Christmas Invasion

"I'm gonna get killed by a Christmas tree!" < one of the most iconic lines ever! I haven't watched this episode in a long time, but the one scene that will forever remain lodged in my mind is Rose, Mickey and Jackie trying to fend for themselves when Rose notices a new arrival in the Tyler household... a Christmas tree. And then it lights up, and it starts spinning around to a very frantic version of 'Jingle Bells'. Honestly one of the most hilarious laugh-out-loud moments from Doctor Who, IMO. And in the picture above, we have the TARDIS beyond the console room that we saw in this episode. I do think it's a real shame that this version of the TARDIS wasn't explored more because from that brief glimpse we got of what else there was in there, it looked amazing! If only 'Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS' was a series 1/2/3/4 episode. </3 Can't say I can comment a great deal more than this on the episode though, oops. The Sycorax were best left as a one-time villain though.

noooo 'The Doctor Dances' should be above 'The Christmas Invasion'. Hopefully 'The Empty Child' still manages to reach the Top 10, literally one of the scariest things I've ever seen at the time. It traumatised me for MONTHS.

'Silence in the Library' is alright but missing something that means it doesn't fulfil it's potential imo.

'The Girl in the Fireplace' is a marvellous piece of writing although I thought the Clockwork Robots were going to be a lot scarer when I saw pictures of them before the episode! I guess it was more focused on Reinette though and deservedly so.

The Parting of the Ways

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c8/Parting_of_the_Ways.jpg

This was Christopher Eccleston's swansong, the last episode of series 1, and the last time we'd see the Ninth Doctor in action and utter his infamous catchphrase - "Fantastic!". I don't actually remember a lot about this episode, I don't think I've watched it many times at all since it was first broadcast, but from what I do remember we had the Emperor Dalek, and that is one villain that really MUST return to the show! Having a Dalek Prime Minister like we did in 'Asylum of the Daleks' really was a bit far fetched an idea, and I guess it wouldn't have hurt at all to have the Emperor there in its place, although I guess that may have required adding in a lot more story than was already there. Rose looking into the time vortex was a truly stunning moment, I think it was the first moment I believed 'okay, Billie can DEFINITELY act' - she pulled it off so well and it was all very emotional. And then of course after that we had David Tennant appear. Barcelona!

The Empty Child

http://files.abovetopsecret.com/files/img/xb5141fba8.jpg

The chilling introduction to one of the most well-written and terrifying two-parters (or story for that matter) finishes just three places ahead of its concluding episode 'The Doctor Dances'. In this episode, we're introduced to Captain Jack Harkness, who has his own spaceship and tries to come onto Rose, has a little dance with her, gets her a bit tipsy, and stuff happens. Only for us to find out a couple of years later he's a bit flexible and he drives in both lanes~ But anyway, that's not the main focus of the episode. The main focus is of course the little boy (the derivative of the story's title 'The Empty Child'), who is haunting Nancy and the children she looks after, and everyone else for that matter. Then of course there's Doctor Constantine - one of the most chilling and haunting parts of NuWho is when Constantine mutates into a gas mask zombie - that gives me shivers every time I watch it! Just sitting there, and it all falls into place because he has a scar identical to the ones on all of the other zombies. This is what we need more of from Moffat - in having the very heavy duty of being the boss of the show, I fear he's lost *some* of the spark he originally had with episodes like this and 'Blink', both of which are fantastic and had us all well and truly hid behind the sofa!

'The Empty Child'/'The Doctor Dances' is the best story of Doctor Who. So so chilling.

'The Parting of the Ways' was a really strong finale as well! I forgot to comment on 'Bad Wolf' but I loved the concept of it with the gameshows.

Can't believe The Girl in the Fireplace didn't place inside the top 10 :drama:

Whilst I'm not suggesting foul play, it does seem like Regina is deliberately low voting all the Moffat stories regardless of content. All the 0s and 1s to stories that most would assume to be title contenders? Really?

What is so hateful about them, Regina?

Didn't notice that before! I usually disregard Regina's scores as pure lack of good taste.

The Sontaran Stratagem

http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100619132104/tardis/images/1/13/Sontaranstrategem.png

Dropping out at #12 is the first episode from a two-part story in series 4 - 'The Sontaran Stratagem'. I can't say I loved this episode at all, but it was a good one. It had its moments, but there was nothing really that memorable other than the introduction. We had Atmos make an appearance, albeit a very sneaky one that introduced the mini-arc to us, in 'Partners in Crime' (the taxi driver that was waiting for Stacey had the sticker on his window~), and now we saw that cars with Atmos had a pre-installed satellite navigation system that took you to your destination, however the opening scenes of this episode showed us what SatNavs do best - take you in the wrong direction and have you end up in a field - except this time it wasn't leading you into a field, it was leading you to your death in a lake. A very chilling concept, and there was no way to override the function. The mighty Sontarans returned for the first time since the classic era - and since then they've gone on to be utilised in many ways! They've (well, one has) popped up in The Sarah Jane Adventures, and we now have a Sontaran - Strax - who is rather different to those who came and saw before him. In this episode though, they really were evil, and it was a perfect way to introduce them to a new generation of viewers! Anyway, I've said far too much about an episode I don't particularly care for.

Dalek

http://redqueencoder.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/roseDalek.jpg

Just missing out on the top 10 by almost no points at all is 'Dalek', and we now lose all episodes from series 1. Don't shoot me, or rather don't exterminate me, but I honestly cannot remember anything about this episode at all, so I'll just write a few lines of complete gibberish and see where that takes me. Adam was in this episode, he stuck around for a couple and then the Doctor dropped him off back home before things got out of hand. They already had by the time certain events took place in 'The Long Game', but he actually had promise and potential in this episode (I think) (I can't remember). The Dalek was terrifying in this episode, and when Rose touched it and woke it up (is that what happened), that was really horrifying. DALEKS CAN ELEVATE UP STAIRS TOO, WHO KNEW?! Over and out.

Dalek was incredible. What an episode!
DALEKS CAN ELEVATE UP STAIRS TOO, WHO KNEW?! Over and out.

Anybody who had any knowledge of Doctor Who prior to the re-launch, really. So, several million then. 1988's 25th anniversary story Remembrance Of The Daleks did the stairs thing already.

Oh and for me, Dalek is easily one of the new runs top 5 episodes ever. Were it not for this episode I would have stopped watching.

The Time of Angels

http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/11111/111115170/3583412-0076168002-tumbl.gif

Kicking off the top 10, we have the last remaining episode of series 5 dropping out. This was the opening episode of the first two-parter with Moffat at the helm of the show, and with the Weeping Angels making an appearance, obviously it was going to be incredibly scary - and this first part definitely was! It set the story up perfectly, it had the right balance of drama, the right balance of scare-factor, and everything else. And of course, River Song made another appearance here, under the watchful eye of Father Octavian. The one scene in this episode that really tells us Moffat is on top form with his writing is when Amy is trapped in the container and the Angel is on the screen. "That which holds the image of an Angel is itself an Angel" - the Angel was coming out of the screen ready to pounce on Amy, and each time it refreshed in the same loop of seconds, it held a different image, but Amy managed to lock it out, yay. The cliffhanger at the end of this episode was amazing too! We had the Doctor holding a gun, ready to shoot at 'something' high in the sky - what was it? Of course we didn't know this until the next episode, but it was the Byzantium and he was ensuring a way for them to get up there by playing with gravity.

Not sure how The Sontaran Stratagem made it that high but I guess it wasn't helped by any trolling... :)

'Dalek' is such a good episode looking back especially as it helps to show just how dangerous even one Dalek can be and it's the perfect way to highlight the struggles The Doctor is going through after the Time War.

'The Time of Angels' was great as well and a perfect contrasting companion piece to the low-budget 'Blink'. It was the perfect way to keep audiences on board amongst the change with the returns of River Song and the Angels. That gif though :o

The Fires of Pompeii

http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/ep4x02.jpg

Up next is the second episode from series 4, 'The Fires of Pompeii'. This episode is so good in so many ways! Not only is it a great story by itself, but it also introduced us to two characters and actors who would later go on to become two of the biggest in Doctor Who! First up, we had Karen Gillan appear as one of the women who bowed before the High Priestess, she followed the Doctor and Donna before they eventually entered the Temple and came face to face with the Priestess. She later went on to become one of the longest-serving companions on the show in the form of the sassy and sexy Amy Pond. Then of course we had Peter Capaldi who made an appearance as Caicilius - a member of a rich family who became involved with the Doctor during his trip to Pompeii. Of course, as we know, Capaldi is now starring in the show as the twelfth Doctor. This episode, IMO, is very beautiful in its own way. It's definitely not one of the show's best episodes, but it's one of the most underrated and it certainly has some very lovely moments in it. This is the first time we see Donna really putting the Doctor in his place though, the scene where she orders him to go back and save just one family from the erupting volcano that was Vesuvius, that was incredible. Tears falling, hair all over the place, she didn't care one bit so long as the Doctor changed one tiny fragment of history and saved just one family. Only one. And he did. The power of Noble <3

Fires of Pompeii also has some of the best production design of all the Who stories ever. It does massively help that the sets cost around £7m to build of course. They really should have used more of them.

Turn Left

http://www.kotaku.jp/images/2014/06/140608bechdeltest4.jpg

Turn Left was a bit of a strange one for me. It had all the makings of a brilliant episode, but when I first watched it I just did not like it one bit. At all. It just seemed like it would be that one mediocre episode from a series that had been largely great. However, after repeated viewings and of course, seven years later (:o), I'd say this is definitely one of the highlights of one of the show's strongest series! The episode starts with the Doctor and Donna arriving on another planet, and Donna soon finds herself in a bit of a tricky situation when she meets a fortune teller who's hiding a Time Beetle in the shadows of her little coven - trying to alter the past in order to change the destined future of an unsuspecting individual. She urges Donna to turn right instead of left, so then we see what is an incredibly emotional journey unfold. The family are sent away from their home, living in Leeds with an Asian family and telling stories and singing songs, and they watch their world explode around them. And then Donna meets Rose. Rose utters two words to Donna before they both part company, and they were 'BAD WOLF', which leaves us at the end of the episode with 'Bad Wolf' spread everywhere and anywhere, even on the front door of the TARDIS! It could only mean that in the next part of the story the Daleks would be back! Another of the great things about this episode was we got to see some previous events (such as 'The Runaway Bride' unfold from a different perspective to how they were presented before! A brilliant episode overall~

Turn Left is incredible. Catherine Tate really carried the episode and made it one of the best DW episodes ever!
