Not for the songs, but I quite liked the period of Spring 2011 when we had organic climbers from LMFAO (22-3-2-{1}-1-1-1..) followed by Pitbull/Ne-Yo (35-25-12-4-{1}-1-1...)

The only time the chart has reflected true popularity this decade as both became million sellers - but later in the year Maroon 5 were denied SEVEN times by loads of non-million sellers (except Rihanna who rightly debuted at #1 with an OA/OS release).

I know What Makes You Beautiful didn't sell nearly as much as Moves Like Jagger but I'd say that "deserved" to go to #1 as well as Rihanna. The word deserved is in quotation marks as this is me speaking purely from a popularity/sales perspective. As for Example, Dappy, Pixie Lott and Sak Noel making #1 - that was kinda hilarious, but shouldn't have happened from a popularity perspective. Especially Example and Sak Noel as they both had I Wanna Feel type chart runs.

going back over 20 years for this:

Wet Wet Wet was okay in small doses, 15 weeks was a bit too much though and I wasn't a huge fan of the Flintstones tune being reworked but apart from that, I like every song. China Black, Regulate, Swamp Thing, Shine and even some PJ & Duncan from the original run. Probably the only person in the UK who bought the Maxx album as well :D

some decent songs in the top 20 as well, CJ Lewis, Red Dragon and the fantastic 7 Seconds which was going to be a long runner in the chart. Infact 1994 was a pretty good year for chart music, could have picked a lot of weeks on the chart

  • 2 weeks later...

Just thought of another one but forgot the date. The week when Lily climbed to 1, great new entries by Bastille and Gary Barlow completed the top 3, LM top 10 with move- one of the best songs of last year, hard out here new in 9 (best song of last year) and JLS also entering and I think Lana Re-entering as well. Oh and Ellie climbing which is always a good thing. Loved that chart

Also love the one where Mercy went number 1 as I was obsessed over it

As for recent consecutive No.1s go...

Duke Dumont featuring A*M*E Need U (100%)

Rudimental featuring Ella Eyre Waiting All Night

Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams Get Lucky

Naughty Boy featuring Sam Smith La La La

Spring 2013 :yahoo:

Storm Queen Look Right Through (MK Remix)

Martin Garrix Animals

Could have included 'Of The Night' and 'Under Control', had that hideous cover not have been allowed. :puke2:

Sigma Nobody To Love

Kiesza Hideaway

Mr. Probz Waves (Robin Schulz Remix)

Calvin Harris Summer

Surely the best consecutive No.1s we've had for a long, long time and most defiantly this decade.

And thought I never followed the charts back then, I would have loved the 1999-2000 period for brilliant dance music (Sash!, ATB, Alice DeeJay, York etc.), and the mid 1990s for BritPop.

Also enjoyed following the charts during the indie-pop revival in 2005-2007 (The Killers, Stereophonics, Coral, Snow Patrol, Razorlight, Keane, Embrace etc.)

My favourite chart was either the Xmas chart of 2003 or 2009 both shocks in a Brillant way!! Classic countdowns and one of the reasons I'm fascinated with the charts and how they fitted into the popular culture of the day!

The week in 2000 with a brand new top 6 stood out for me

1 Fill me in

2 Flowers

3 A song for the lovers

4 The bad touch

5 Deeper shade of blue

6 Blow ya mind

I wish we got weeks like those now. I only started properly following in 2010 so I've never seen a week like that :(

Even better was the seventh new entry to the top ten that week, Airwave by Rank 1 at #10! If only it had been #7 (or better #1) *.*

Ouch. What a bad week for Rank 1 to release in. I bet it had really high sales for a #10 though. Either way it's still an amazing yet underrated trance classic

I quite liked the week that Livin' Joy's "Dreamer" re-entered at #1.

The Top 10 that week was:

1. (RE) Livin' Joy "Dreamer"

2. (1) Oasis "Some Might Say"

3. (11) Perez 'Prez' Prado And His Orchestra "Guaglione"

4. (2) Take That "Back For Good"

5. (3) Boyzone "Key To My Life"

6. (NE) Scatman John "Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)"

7. (6) Tina Arean "Chains"

8. (4) Bobby Brown "Two Can Play That Game"

9. (5) Outhere Brothers "Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle)"

10. (NE) Supergrass "Lenny"

Scatman John and Perez 'Prez' Prado in the Top 10 at the same time. Iconic.
