I can get behind Miranda Sings hate though. Absolutely horrific, the one time I've chuckled slightly is when she called BO$$ by fifth Harmony "Bo Dollar Dollar". I just don't find her remotely funny or see why others would, but each to their own :P

Pretty amazing achievement! I don't think she's even been midweek #1 as sole lead artist before. "Starships" only ever reached #2 IIRC on the midweeks.

 

Of course both "Bang Bang" and "Where Dem Girls At?" reached midweek #1 and the former also official #1.

I don't really think that makes her a dickhead. Isn't she right in a way? There's no need to intellectualise a video like Anaconda. It's really not operating on that many levels.

She is right though. "Anaconda" isn't artistic. It's a rework on someone else's song and the fact that people are trying to find layers of meaning in a dence song is baffling. Go read a Virgina Wolf poem or something thought worthy. Remember this is the woman who gave us "rar rar like a dungeon dragon" as a hook.

 

My only gripe here is her refusing to discuss her bum when its the centre fold of the video and album artwork. That makes her look stupid in my eyes.

Nicki's right. It's clearly just a fun tongue-in-cheek song. It's not supposed to be over-analysed.

but ultimately that is what people do and to say to not to is in many ways insulting. it's her shutting down and not really giving anything and making out others to be small. even if it isn't meant to say much do you go out and say that? all too often she provides these sort of dour interviews and as an artist i feel like she really doesn't give much if anything.

 

what is one supposed to make of these various different caricatures that she projects? or the giant arse picture she puts on her single sleeve, just stop going on because she doesn't like it, even though that is what she is putting out.

I don't listen to music demanding it be explained by the artist, i can infer my own meanings from it. If an artist wants to explain what they intend the music/video/artwork to mean then great but it is in no way a prerogative for them to have to do this.

 

Who's to say that she wasn't performing in the interview and that it too is part of the song's message? "Don't think too much about it, it's just cheeky :)" screams subtle irony for me. A song or video can mean very little to some and a whole lot for others that want to pick it apart and that's the fun of it. No need to insult her for keeping tight lipped about her intentions.

i guess it says a lot about her as an artist though I she's not willing to acknowledge the wider impact of everything she produces. especially with such a huge fan base who will inevitable look up to her and take personal inspiration from her music.

It's not her job or her responsibility to be anybody's personal inspiration. She's an entertainer.
