February 26, 201510 yr That doesn't make sense either, do Thursday sales just stop counting? I imagine the chart would be announced on Fridays. Ha yes I thought that after I posted, so count Friday to Thursday and then do the charts on a Friday I guess
February 26, 201510 yr Ha yes I thought that after I posted, so count Friday to Thursday and then do the charts on a Friday I guess That's what they currently do in Ireland, it works quite well.
February 26, 201510 yr ah... oops, didn't realise this was posted in here, well the other thread can be discussion about the chart show, if it gets moved or not.
February 26, 201510 yr Another question about this, will we see albums not being withheld from release anymore, such as The Veronicas and also Nick Jonas's album which we're still waiting for in the UK No, I don't think it will change anything from that point of view. It's just where albums are released worldwide at the same time they'll be released on the exact same day rather than staggered through the week.
February 26, 201510 yr If they're gonna release music on Fridays, at least release it the same time music is released in Ireland
February 26, 201510 yr If they're gonna release music on Fridays, at least release it the same time music is released in Ireland It's a GLOBAL RELEASE DAY
February 26, 201510 yr Wow, brillant news ! :cheer: I wonder what will be the day for the first midweek info though, Saturday or Monday?
February 26, 201510 yr Wow, brillant news ! :cheer: I wonder what will be the day for the first midweek info though, Saturday or Monday? I suspect it will be Monday. There's no real reason not to release it on Saturday as there would be little or no work involved for anyone, but I still think we will have to wait until Monday.
February 26, 201510 yr The OCC are considering the possibility of changing the chart day http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/f...ew-music__8203/ So we're going to end up with a chart week that is only 5 days long (or alternatively 2 days of sales / units being counted to two different chart weeks) at some point? Mess but I suppose there's no way around it.
February 26, 201510 yr So we're going to end up with a chart week that is only 5 days long (or alternatively 2 days of sales / units being counted to two different chart weeks) at some point? Mess but I suppose there's no way around it. I would be very surprised if they went for the second option. Having a short week at the time of the changeover is the logical way to do it.
February 26, 201510 yr Wow, brillant news ! :cheer: I wonder what will be the day for the first midweek info though, Saturday or Monday? Most likely scenario Mon to Thurs or it could be Mon to Weds, I'm leaning towards the latter.
February 26, 201510 yr The change could have a real impact on the X Factor winner's hopes for Christmas Number 1. There's no way Cowell would want to wait another four days to release the song and suppose he got his way by still releasing it on a Sunday night then there would still be two less days which probably would have been fatal for Sam Bailey and Ben Haenow.
February 27, 201510 yr The singles chart has never been in a greater mess though and, apart from being announced on the radio, and on websites such as Buzzjack and the official one, it's barely published anywhere at all. You used to go into Woolies on a Saturday and see the chart proudly on the wall with 7" records stacked in order - but that's just not the case now. Is it really still a measure anyone uses when purchasing? It's not as if promos need to be sent out any more either - the NME has about two pages devoted to album reviews now and music blogs are basically places people go to hear pre-release streams rather than to actually read any content put up. I'd say that "official release dates" should just be removed entirely and acts should simply release a record as soon as it's ready. Remove the "business" from the music business and make it about music.
February 27, 201510 yr I'd say that "official release dates" should just be removed entirely and acts should simply release a record as soon as it's ready. Remove the "business" from the music business and make it about music. That's an interesting idea, basically it means everyone doing a Beyonce. Sadly I don't think it could ever take off in practice though, music will always be a "business".
February 27, 201510 yr It comes into effect in the summer. There is no definite date yet. So, plenty of time to prepare your commentary. :D
March 27, 201510 yr Global release day confirmed for Friday, July 10 Source: MW The first date the global release day for new music will come into play is on Friday, July 10. The news was confirmed to Music Week last night by sources, who said the IFPI have had the date secured for a while. In February, IFPI confirmed that the change would come into effect in 'summer 2015'. Last week it was announced that the Official Chart on Radio 1 will be moved to Fridays from July, suggesting that was the month the synchronised release date for new music would come into play too. The move will bring all territories in line with Australia and Germany, amongst others, but would mean big changes in other countries including the UK and the US. It's been met with a mixed reaction from the industry, with [PIAS] co-founder Michel Lambot recently expressing concern about what it could mean for development and local artists. "If a global chart reigns supreme, development artists and local artists will have to get used to hearing the voice of America, everywhere. Big money, big global campaigns, will dominate," he said in a blog post. "This can only help the blockbusters become even bigger, for a longer period of time, in more markets." However, retailers, the artist community, digital services and distributors have welcomed the move, hailing it a logical change in today's globalised world.
March 27, 201510 yr And we have the confirmation date July 10th, so the first Friday chart show will be the 17th July
