New TOTP2 performers confirmed

Razorlight, Richard Hawley and Jamelia are among the acts who will record sets for the new series of Top Of The Pops 2, which begins this month.

 

Each episode in the new series will feature two new studio performances alongside footage from the Top Of The Pops archives.

 

Other acts confirmed include Nelly Furtado, Scritti Politti and Seth Lakeman. The series begins on September 30 and runs until Christmas, with Steve Wright continuing as presenter.

i dont get it. get rid of TOTP but bring back TOTP2 when totp1 isnt running ? and include new artist songs ?

TOTP (the main show) was expensive to run and didn't get the ratings. For a cheap show, TOTP2 does fine. That's why TOTP1 was cancelled, but TOTP2 was brought back.

 

This type of network decision is commonly refered to as "The Stargate Syndrome".

there were times when TOTP2 was getting more viewers than TOTP. Plus, it did usually feature a new song at times, so it's probably just continuing that tradition. I'd imagine the live acts will (usually be) mainly acts that appeal to 20 somethings onwards.

 

I'm not sure about Steve Wright continuing as presenter. I know he did the show for many years (and it still gets shown on UKTV Gold 2 with him) but perhaps a fresh start with a new presenter would have been a good idea. It sounds like they're just picking up where they left off. I've nothing against Steve Wright, but a fresh start may have been a good idea.

I'm looking forward to it and I'm glad they're including some new performances, that way the lucky few artists who make it each week can at least have that extra bit of promotion!
