  1. No NMF UK today? The US have one and some other playlists have updated.
  2. Is it also to do with young people being less happy than they were 10-20 years ago? Instead of bopping around their bedrooms to Lady Gaga, McFly, Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears, 14 year olds now prefer to hate themselves thanks to Instagram and listen to aggressive or depressing music at the back of the school bus?
  3. Obviously age plays a factor, I’m 33 and long for the days of pop, dance and tuneful R&B being the dominant forces in music. Music was a much happier affair. When have you been to a wedding or party and heard the DJ play anything of note from the past three years? Generally, you can’t get out on the dancefloor to anything post Uptown Funk and Can’t Stop The Feeling. I still listen to new music every single week and I love discovering new artists and songs. That said, as soon as anything by an artist such as Dave, Fredo, Post Malone et al. begins, I am ready to dislike it. There’s a few exceptions, but I generally find this mumble rap/trap/drill music that has emerged in the past few years to be utter dross - it’s depressing, tuneless and full of swearing. I feel as though Drake’s One Dance was the end of the charts as we knew them. Since that song, and subsequent rule changes, the charts are a new beast. One Dance, historically, would’ve been a four week summer chart topper at very best. Streaming has shown how our listening habits as a nation, especially young people’s, are utterly stagnant. Our listening habits had never been exposed this way before and now we are faced with a chart that barely moves, and only does so due to OCC manipulation. Spotify allows me to discover and re-discover more music than I ever dreamed of, but the charts are of no real interest to me anymore (unless Kylie is on the brink of a top 40 hit).

So impressed with Kylie's sales! :D If Dancing goes top 40 I might cry.
  5. Do we know where RuPaul ended up?
  6. The charts are that bloody slow they've got no choice to include non-hits.

Amen amen amen! I do exactly that, curate my own playlists based on my tastes. Most people are too passive to do this and are happy to be spoon fed by Spotify and Capital FM. Streaming should absolutely be 1:1000.
  8. Huge drop for Mabel this week!
  9. I hope Strangers by Sigrid gets some momentum but so far the Spotify playlists are ignoring it. Fingers crossed for a #1 Kylie album and top 40 single too.

It's not top 200 on Spotify.
  11. Noticed that, bit shoddy!
  12. Awww :( I really like the David Zowie track but as far as house tracks go it's nowhere near one of the best of the year, it's just been jumped on by chavs.
  13. Hope Y&Y are #1...
  14. "Wings" is such a fantastic song, Leona Lewis would've had a huge hit with it 5 years ago.
  15. This chart clearout is making me wish we could go back to the pre-streaming days!
