in my case, never, cos streaming isnt sales, it's more like background radio, supported by the ongoing blandness and dullness of it.

Ive been criticising the american singles charts for decades for the same reason: more radiostation/record company sales-tools than a reflection of what people feel motivated enough about to buy.

The albums charts are real, though.

I agree, 100%.

I wasn't responding to any particular post, it's just something that I've seen a lot here. I understand it happening when the change occurred, but after awhile the complaining and comparing just seems so pointless. The world has changed, a lot of people buy music subscriptions now instead of individual songs, it doesn't seem unreasonable that their spending should somehow be reflected in the charts. And at least it's not as bad as we have it here, where Lady Gaga can get a top 10 song based on buying ads on YouTube, or Harlem Shake being #1 for 5 weeks because a 30 second snippet of it became a meme.
I don't get how listening to music on Spotify is more "background" than listening to iTunes...

Listening shouldn't count at all, no matter where.

Only investing money in particular track hence I'd be inclined to accept listening from paid subscriptions but the one for free? Absurd.

Does anybody know if "Pieces" by Jessie Ware charted in the top 200 because I saw it the itunes top 200 but wondering if it made the official top 200?
