'Love Spent' was quite the late grower for me, I like the instrumental and it's an interesting track. A couple of dodgy lyrics though.

'Only' a couple of dodgy lyrics is an achievement for MDNA!

28 // I Know It // Madonna // 108pts.

The only track from Madonna's debut to appear but I am so happy that it's this one! This pop number sticks out a bit on an album that experiments with dance sounds but I still consider it one of the best tracks on it.

27 // Candy Perfume Girl // Ray of Light // 109pts.

This is reportedly to be about obsession, although looking at the lyrics I'm still pretty clueless - apparently Madonna had used a magnetic poetry kit to create them but I don't know how true that is. Listening to 'Candy Perfume Girl' as an individual track, I really like it but it's overshadowed on the album by my love for the three tracks either side of it.

26 // Over and Over // Like a Virgin // 111pts.

'Over and Over' is the only Like a Virgin track in the Top 40 but, similarly to 'I Know It', I'm glad it's this one. Got a nice and catchy fast pace to it!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS at those 2 80's tracks making it *.*
God listening to I Know It now it sounds just as amazing as ever, I love how imperfect her vocals are on it and it just drips with that tell tale Madonna attitude right from the off.

It's only fair that those tracks both made it!

I'm quite surprised cpg did though especially as not many rol album tracks did!

Another one of my top 5 gone however

I was a little surprised too at first, but then I realised that out of the seven Ray of Light tracks I'd expect people to prefer, 5 of those were singles and obviously not applicable.

25 // Candy Shop // Hardy Candy // 112pts.

One of the eight Pharrell co-written tracks, 'Candy Shop' served as the first track on Hard Candy. The candy terms are used as a metaphor for sex - not exactly sexual but more embarrassing! I do like the actual sound of the song though.

24 // Spanish Eyes // Like a Prayer // 113pts.

This is more like it! Another stunning track from Like a Prayer, I've read this confronts the issue of AIDS - a subject Madonna later sung about in Erotica's 'In This Life'. I love how strained her vocals are at points in the chorus.

23 // I Don't Give A (ft. Nicki Minaj) // MDNA // 123pts.

One of the better tracks on MDNA, 'I Don't Give A' was produced by Martin Solveig and features the vocals of Nicki Minaj - the latter fitting much better than on 'Give Me All Your Luvin''! I could do with the song finishing at the "there's only one queen" bit though.

Maybe another post tonight or two tomorrow since I didn't post yesterday!

Candy shop how the hell has this made the list? The mdna version is much better than the original.

The other two tracks are great !!

22 // Push // Confessions on a Dancefloor // 125pts.

Not surprised to see this as one of the earliest Confessions tracks out, from observation on here it's never been rated as high as the others on the album. Still a great track though - it's pretty widely accepted that this album is of such a high standard that even the least good are still good! This apparently samples The Police's 'Every Breath You Take' but I'm yet to hear it.

21 // I'm Addicted // MDNA // 126pts.

I'm very happy with these MDNA choices! This was one of the most critically acclaimed tracks on the album and I think it would have been a good lead single - probably would have done better than 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' but how much better is left for us to imagine. I particularly love everything from the 3 minute mark and the MDNA or MDMA chants (can't decide which it is).

20 // How High // Confessions on a Dancefloor // 128pts.

Similarly to 'Push', this was one I expected to be out earlier than the rest of the Confessions tracks but I'm glad it places higher as I definitely find it better. I know the album is like one continuous mix on most editions but I do particularly like the transition from this to 'Isaac'. Also, some nerd on Wiki noted that a line in this song refers to 'Nobody's Perfect' and 'I Deserve It' from Music!

JESUS CHRIST

PUSH

CANDY f***ING SHOP

I DONT GIVE A

it's GALLING that they are top 40, let alone beating out utter classics like (Pray For) Spanish Eyes and just about everything else that's gone before.

I was kind of expecting it tbh! Everyone does need to check out all the Madonna ballads from 1989-1996 though, easily some of the best work of her career.
Back before autotune and her singing lessons she was able to bring so much emotion to any ballad. It raises fairly humdrum songs up to genuine greatness, for my money she was one of the very best at selling a true emotional connection to her music (in the pop world, obv). It's gone now, but the legacy is amazing.

Definitely, as said before she had that slightly strained, raw vocals which produced pain and emotion and in turn did make them perfect. Her voice was higher back then and that added to it, particularly in something like 'Crazy for You'. Her vocal was quite distressed in that and is to me the biggest selling point of that song. Puts the lyrics in a whole new light.

Push is terrible !!!

Worst track on confessions!

This list is criminal - how many people voted btw ?

'How High' is absolutely BRILLIANT. One of the many 10/10 moments on the album. I like 'Push' too but then there isn't a track on there that i don't like lol.

Did everyone post 40 tracks ?

I doubt this so no wonder results are surprising ?

I'm loving the countdown tho so thank you !

I wonder how different the results would be if you just took the top ten from everyone's votes ?

I think most gave Top 15-25s - I know I did a Top 40 and I think a couple of others did. If I remember at the end of the countdown, I'll reveal what the Top 10 would look like just using the Top 10 from everyone's votes.

And thanks very much, glad you are! :D
