I just can't believe she made this album. It really is that good.

Also, it sold 400k+ in just over one day in the US. Insane.

A download-only release, already beating Katy Perry's and Gaga's fully-released full-week sales :o

Also selling more than her previous album did in the first week.

I'm not sure it's really the same, because despite the lack of singles and conventional promo for those albums, they were still announced weeks/months in advance rather than just suddenly released out of nowhere.

It's not quite the same but the general idea is present in all three albums - "let's look interesting and indie by not promoting the album in the conventional way". While I am pleased that the quality of her music seems to have improved with the somewhat more innovative leanings, I do not enjoy an artist I like joining Kanye and Jay on the pretentious hipster road.

I am more cynical than you - what of it?
a clever strategy is a clever strategy... we can't just go about calling everything that differs slightly from the norm pretentious like.
I disagree.
Just bought this. Gonna have to listen to it tomorrow now cos I need bed, but can't wait to sit down and listen to it/watch it when I get home in the morning. Exciting.

Exactly.

I don't know about Kanye, but she could hardly ignore Jay-Z... :P

This album is a massive let down, so disappointing. :( I liked Pretty Hurts but the rest all blended into one song pretty much. **Flawless stood out but not for good reasons. What has HAPPENED to her? :(

What has happened to her is that she just released the best album of her career.

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH PAVEL

I haven't really listened to this yet, because I need to be in the ~mood~ to listen to a new Beyonce album. What I will say is that Drunk On Love shows that she is quite possibly turning into the best female artist ever in my eyes.

I've only heard this once and wasn't particularly excited by it, which is very unlike me with her. I think I'll have to watch it with the videos to fully appreciate it and let it grow.
The way people react to it has put me off in all honesty. I think I would like her so much more if people didn't act as if she was Jesus or something ....

Bitch please, nobody is acting like SHE is jesus. This ALBUM however is indeed a DIVINE CREATION.

I have to disagree. I have the right to say that she's the NEW JESUS. I'm just joking but literally everything that she does is PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT for me.

Completely agree (although I'm currently on 'Blow' of my first listen through, it's ok atm. Not amazing, but it's ok.) particularly with the latter part. 'Blow' would flop if it was by anyone else over here (very Timberlake though, so maybe not as much as I think it would? - that'd be down to Timbaland I guess), so I hope she skips straight to 'XO' for the UK, which I heard yday and LOVED. I'm liking the album though. But I loved 'The 20/20 Experience' and liked 'channel ORANGE', which is what this reminds me of so far (like a strange mix of the two - also, throw in a TINY bit of Keri Hilson (NO LIE - 'Slow Dance' in particular!)).

Her fans definitely put me off more though, but I think I'm used to it now and apart from the rare few gems per album, I've kind of got used to it and am happy to settle with "her albums are never going to be as good as the hype/her fans suggest for me". The only album of hers I've liked (well, loved) was 'I Am...'. This is my second favourite though.
