Ooh, I wasn't sure 'Blank Space' was going to get to #1 on iTunes after all as last time I checked TT were pulling ahead - great to see it though  (although TT will probably be back on top after Graham Norton).

This week's #1 looks set now but next week is still looking very unpredictable.

 3. The Hanging Tree - James Newton Howard

Band Aid 30 could drop to #8 fairly soon if they continue to decline, simply because of how close everything is.

It's "Under The Tree", but I agree, my favourite non-standard Christmas song. I remember thinking at the time that Kele from Bloc Party sang lead vocals on it. I was wrong. It does get played a lot on Asda FM at Christmas, if that's any consolation.

I remember it being on the radio 1 INMWT list for December 2005. It got to No 27 in the chart! I actually got the cd single!

169 Leona Lewis One More Sleep

G'wan Leona! Get those yearly royalties!

Btw other than TT David Guetta is on Graham Norton!

I thought Guetta was on Alan Carr? :P Not performing anyway, Kiesza's performing on Alan Carr, Hideaway apparently

what? this Swift trash is at #1? :o :puke:

British consumers are out of their mind :(

Jennifer Lawrence for #1! :cheer: So close between the top 8 songs! :o

I don't think iTunes is an exact indicator of popularity  Its mainly used by an elder demographic, more females than males. People who use iTunes tend to be more casual music listeners I've found too.

I think my demographic (young and male) mostly illegally download their music as they can't wait two months for a song they've heard to be released :D If people around my age used iTunes more, this Taylor Swift song would be nowhere near number 1 and songs like the Motto, Rack City, Don't Waste My Time and Not That Deep would have been a lot higher on iTunes!!

What counts as old in your example? I'm awaiting you saying something scary like 30!
It's a shame Leona left Syco - i'm sure had she still been pally with Simon she'd of been wheeled out on TXF this year and could have performed Ave Maria or Your Hallelujah it would have given the album a boost and also OMS. :(

Oh Lord, even though I have no idea about the latter two, these first two tracks are musical horrors, pretty much like the entire American rap/urban genre. As much as I hate Taylor Swift's dumb music, I definitely prefer it over vulgar and offensive atrocities that you mentioned. Luckily that generation of consumers will never be relevant for the charts.

I think people in their thirties are what I had in mind

People my age tend to either use sites like Spotify or just illegally download the songs they like. People who use iTunes actually make up a small proportion of music lovers in the UK.

The last two are British hip hop tracks whose sales don't come close to reflecting their popularity!!

When I see the top 10 on iTunes, I always think they don't really reflect what's popular at the time. There's so many types of hit (underground, club, radio etc) that I find the charts obsolete in some ways. I post on here because I wanna see how my favourite songs are faring

Alot of times isn't the Spotify chart pretty much in correlation with the ITunes chart though?
