December 3, 201410 yr #23 Katy Perry – This Is How We Do (UK Chart peak #33) I’m sure lots of you will disagree with me here, but I really think this was one of Katy Perry’s best single choices of this era. I could not agree more! It just sounded so different to everything else and it was so nice to see Katy NOT blatantly chasing trends or going for the obvious 'Walking On Air'. Such a standout track, shame it underperformed.
December 3, 201410 yr Author I could not agree more! It just sounded so different to everything else and it was so nice to see Katy NOT blatantly chasing trends or going for the obvious 'Walking On Air'. Such a standout track, shame it underperformed. TIHWD was a great single choice in the end for Katy, was unsure at first but loved it at the end. Shame it didn't do big things chart wise or even in airplay. Hoping she can come back with something excellent like Roar for the next area, she's such a great live popstar too. Excited as heck for her superbowl performance ! Really glad you guys agree! I think the fact it has sold a respectable 120k, when it was only supported for 5 minutes speaks volumes. Could have been a bigger hit here - Shame she didn't perform it at the VMAs! #25 The Vamps – Somebody To You Most definitely my favourite single by The Vamps so far, not even because of the inclusion of Demi. Thanks for the comments, Jay! Yes! I love Demi, but I don't think she's needed because the track is so strong. Pleased this is their second-highest seller, and has sold more than two of their pre-album singles! 'Chandelier' is sensational  My second fave of hers after 'Breathe Me', now <3 Breathe Me is sensational, and one of my all time favourites! #29 Tove Lo – Not On Drugs I really like this but it is still vastly inferior to the stunning 'Habits' Thanks for the comments Math! 'Habits' MIGHT just have an appearance in my top 20 ;) Can't wait for the top 20  Thanks! I might be a a bit slower with the top twenty because each song is so strong there is no need to reveal them 5 at a time!

December 4, 201410 yr Author #20 Jessie Ware – Tough Love XLaOxbd37jc (UK Chart peak #34) Storming in at #20, is one of my two favourite South London songbirds. 34 might not be a very overwhelming UK chart peak, but it was Jessie' first top 40 hit and I'm so glad as it's so beautifully well sung. The followup single did a little better in the charts, but I much prefer 'Tough Love'. The Cyril Hahn remix is also my favourite remix of the year. Jessie Ware >>>> Jessie J.
December 4, 201410 yr Author #19 Taylor Swift – Shake It Off nfWlot6h_JM (UK Chart peak #2) I really haven't got too much to say about this other than the fact that it's another fantastic pop song from old Swifty - but you all know that already. She's has a fantastic run of singles and seems to still be going from strength-to-strength. I'm so glad 'We Are Never Getting Back Together' brought her back into the UK mainstream after seemingly fading away after 'Love Story', despite still being massive everywhere else. Swift is unstoppable at the moment. Will 'Blank Space' have made my top 20, or did it flop out of the top 40? More tomorrow.
December 4, 201410 yr Tough Love really is beautiful, the vocals just elevate her songs to a new level. The production is so beautiful too. Say You Love Me was better for me though, probably the best ballad made this year. I completely agree with SIO being a huge pop song and it's incredibly catchy, sometimes they play it on the bus to school in the morning and it totally wakes me up  Blank Space > 22 > We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together > I Knew You Were Trouble > Everything Has Changed > Shake It Off from her two most recent eras big singles wise.
December 4, 201410 yr Really like tough love AND YEESSSS AT QUEEN SLAYLOR SLAYING WITH THE AMAZING FABULOUS SHAKE IT OFF IN 19TH   :cheer: :cheer:   Blank Space > 22 > We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together > I Knew You Were Trouble > Everything Has Changed > Shake It Off from her two most recent eras big singles wise. Shake It Off > I Knew You Were Trouble > We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together > Blank Space > Everything Has Changed > 22 for me :)
December 4, 201410 yr Author I know you'd be excited at the mention of Taylor, Ultra! Josh I agree on Jessie's vocals
December 5, 201410 yr Author #18 Tom Odell – Real Love eZLYp-jgx-I (UK Chart peak #7) There's nothing like Tom's voice as far as male vocalists go. I'm so glad John Lewis picked Tom for their advert. The song admittedly hasn't done as well as I hoped, but it's probably still one of his biggest hits, and I hope it goes silver before the year ends. Edited December 5, 201410 yr by MistleJoe.
December 5, 201410 yr Author #17 Katy B – Crying For No Reason BOboa27SHDE (UK Chart peak #5) This is my other favourite South London songbird, with the highest ballad (if you can call this a ballad?) on my Top 40. I actually preferred '5AM' as a song, but this was no disappointment. I was worried about this era for Katy, but this song was quite the hit, was everywhere at one point leading to the #1 album. Also, the Graham Norton performance of this was fantastic, and I suggest you watch if you haven't yet.
December 5, 201410 yr Late  for Tough Love. And another for Crying For No Reason. Two sensational ballads <3
December 5, 201410 yr Crying for no reason is definitely one of the best ballads this year, it is just so stunning
December 5, 201410 yr Tough Love & Crying For No Reason are both stunning tracks. Jessie deserved far more success with 'Tough Love', although it was pleasing that it became her first Top 40 at least.
December 6, 201410 yr Author #16 Iggy Azalea Ft. Charli XCX – Fancy O-zpOMYRi0w (UK Chart peak #4) Though this song wasn’t hugely instant for me, I knew it would be massive on a first listen and I wasn't wrong. Iggy + Charli is the perfect combination, and I’m so glad Charli’s second featuring smash actually features her vocals. Okay, this song has been hammered so much it’s getting a bit old now, it’s still fabulous though. Huge contender for video of the year, too.
December 6, 201410 yr Author #15 Tove Lo - Habits (Stay High) - Hippie Sabotage Remix SYM-RJwSGQ8 (UK Chart peak #6) The second entry from Tove Lo in my chart. And this song is perfect, and the type of music that the UK charts needs more of. Swedish electro perfection. And I’m rather obsessed with To Love’s voice after being introduced to her this year and she seems like a really cool gal from interviews and such. ‘Heroes’ would be such a flop song if it weren’t for her vocals. Edited December 6, 201410 yr by MistleJoe.
December 6, 201410 yr Yay for Tove  Not as big a fan of the remix as the original but it's still a jam. She should be HUGE but her campaign seems to have fizzled out :/ so many smashes waiting to be released too.
December 6, 201410 yr Author Yay for Tove  Not as big a fan of the remix as the original but it's still a jam. She should be HUGE but her campaign seems to have fizzled out :/ so many smashes waiting to be released too. I Actually like them equally. I don't know why I chose the remix here - I guess it's because it's the one people are most familiar with.
December 6, 201410 yr Joe, I've realised by reading this that in addition to preferences for Christmas-themed usernames, our music tastes overlap considerably :o I think the only thing I've disliked so far is 'Money On My Mind'! Particularly love the inclusion(s) of HAIM, Lorde, RHODES, Tove, Paolo, Ben Howard, Jessie Ware and Katy B  Looking forward to seeing what's made your top 10 :D
December 6, 201410 yr Ah, Crying For No Reason is certainly one of Katy's career highlights, I do prefer this to 5 AM but the latter is utterly fabulous too and even my dad likes both so that's good too  Glad she nabbed a #1 too, On A Mission deserved that achievement as well though.. I completely went off Stay High after about a week but I love it again now, the 'ooOOOoooOoOoOo's are stunning. I think I prefer Habits now though.
