'Let It Go' (of the James Bay variety) didn't miss the chart entirely, it peaked at #62 (and is back in the top 100 for a third week today).

Corrected to say "top forty".

Oh also the Jools Holland album is #25 not #17 - this is why you don't trust the positions the OCC give in their news report :magic: I would have made the same error had I not waited until 7pm to check the full list.

NOTES

 

A)... Although both JLS & One Direction have their own separate credits on the 2011

X Factor Finalists No.1, ('Wishing On A Star'), The OCC do not count it as a 6th No.1

for JLS & a 4th No.1 for One Direction. I have decided to follow the same 'Rule'.

 

B)... The SHADOWS -- They would be 3rd= in List 1 if their 7 No.1 Singles with Cliff Richard were

to be added to their 5 No.1 Singles as The Shadows. But The OCC told me a few Years ago that

they do not combine their Hits with Cliff Richard with those of The Shadows. So I've followed

their 'Rule'.

 

C)... Which is why The Shadows are 11th= in List 2. If their 28 No.1 Weeks with Cliff Richard, were

added to their 16 No.1 Weeks as The Shadows, they would be 2nd in List 2 -- with 44 No.1 Weeks.

JLS also have 6 #1 singles ('Beat Again', 'Everybody In Love', 'The Club Is Alive', 'Love You More', 'She Makes Me Wanna' and 'Wishing On A Star'). They also reached #1 as part of The X Factor Finalists 2008 and Helping Haiti so at a stretch they can claim 8 #1s, but they were individually credited on 'Wishing On A Star' as well as their 5 #1s as the main act so should definitely be on that list.

Oh dear :( I'd waited to see whether War Of The Worlds had made it as they don't always include re-entries even when they are old albums but I didn't check the positions they did give. They have also been known to miss a new entry occasionally but at least they usually give the right positions for the albums they do mention.

 

Of course, as I'd written a whole load of blurb about WOTW, I left it in anyway :D

Fair enough but surely it's at least worthy of a footnote :P

The JLS / 1D credit on Wishing On A Star is a difficult one. Obviously their presence meant that the line-up consisted of more than just that year's finalists. OTOH, their presence is not noticeable. The Virgin book lists the first two under the same entry. It is therefore arguable that JLS and 1D count as "X Factor Finalists" and that that description applies equally to WOAS.

 

My preference is for the song not to count towards either band's total although I have generally (I sometimes forget) made that clear to avoid any dispute.

The song was specifically credited to 'The X Factor Finalists 2011 featuring JLS and One Direction' so I don't really get the argument to not count it as a #1 for JLS/1D, whether the OCC do this or not. There are plenty of other examples of artists making minimal contributions but still getting a featured credit which is never disputed (to use another JLS song as an example, Tinie Tempah's half a verse on 'Eyes Wide Shut' is never counted as not a hit for him).

As I said, I think the difference is that it is possible to credit all of the releases to "X Factor Finalists" without any featured artists. Of course, that then resurrects arguments about Diana Ross and the Supremes and Pussycat Dolls feat. Nicole Scherzinger.

I also credit the Shadows with a bunch of Number 1 weeks when credited alongside Cliff Richard

There is a German fellow, who works out the All Time UK Singles Acts. He actually counts

The Jordanaires as being an Act in their own right. He gives them Points for every Elvis Presley

Hit that they are on. Making them the 3rd 'All Time Singles Act' in the UK. With The Beatles in

4th place. Beaten only by Cliff Richard, (2nd), & Elvis Presley, (1st). He does the same for the

USA Singles Chart, & they are the 4th All Time Act in that List. Beaten only by Rihanna, (3rd),

Lil Wayne(!), (2nd), & Elvis Presley, (1st).

Were The Jordanaires ever actually credited for their contributions to Elvis' tracks? I think I've seen songs credited to 'Elvis Presley & The Jordanaires' in the Virgin Book of British Hit Singles but nowhere else to my knowledge.

 

EDIT: It appears I wasn't looking particularly closely as they do seem to be credited on quite a lot of Elvis' hits. In that case I would tentatively agree with this person about them appearing in chart lists in their own right, although it feels like cheating a bit as they had no hits without Elvis (The Shadows' case is stronger as they have an expansive chart history in their own right as well as their collaborations with Cliff).

Counting The Jordanaires as a separate act does seem rather absurd. The same logic would mean maintaining totals for the likes of The Suedettes and the mysterious Miss Snob. Maybe there should also be separate entries for groups that don't even exist such as The Machine.

The Jordanaires are a legitimate act in their own right as far as I can tell though (just not one that had any hits).
