'New Eyes' and 'Little Red' have both been on constant rotation for me! 'Telephone Banking', 'New Eyes', 'Aaliyah' & 'All My Lovin' are all essential album tracks <3 OH and love a bit of Olly too of course!

Die Antwoord have always been a guilty pleasure for me thanks to the rather interesting visuals and production!

Great stuff!

ben frost's industrial eleganza gets 20th place. i usually dig this kind of thing so it's not surprised i loved the album. 'nolan' and 'sola fide' are the obvious highlights. f*** buttons gettin nervous~ ; okay so at first i didn't really give future islands much attention but i've been revisiting some of the 2014 albums recently and 'singles' hit me. i just love the whole vibe, it flows really well, the expression in vocals yasss so good; perfume genius' album was also one of my most anticipated releases of the year. all in all he didn't disappoint me, as per usual. tbh we need more artists like him out there. werqqqqqqqqq ; a token swedish middle aged man with a swedish-language album. it became like a tradition since håkan hellström's last album was my 5th favourite of 2014 with 'du kan gå din egen väg' placing at #15 and 'det kommer aldrig va över för mig' at #103 in the songs chart. i only heard oskar's album this year despite it having been released mid-2013 but who really cares about stuff like that when we get something as strong and expressive as this. 'kan jag få ett vittne' is one of the most resilient songs of the year repeaking at #8 after two months on chart. 'stockholm', a former bjsc entry of mine, gentle retro-sounding piece, didn't spend a lot of time on chart but it outpeaked 'kan jag få ett vittne'. all in all, the entire album is, like jazz listeners (i am not one of them, ew, cheek 2 flop~) would say, smooth. yay ; beyoyo appears this year at #16 after finishing 2nd in last year's countdown! quite impressive Mrs. Z. but an even more impressive thing is going to happen soon so it really makes her the queen b (as opposed to queen a, okay)

one of the most, if not the most, impressive and talented artists of 2014 is at #15. there's been so much sia in 2014 my throat actually hurts now. not that i mind her getting shoved down our throats but... there's no 'but' yay! i love you sia continue doing your thang you're fabulous. as for the album it's really strong. 'chandelier' slayed life in q1, her live performances reslayed life this summer, she continues slaying life writing songs for other (less talented and more desperate for a hit) artists. fabulous fabulous fabulous; adore delano became the runner up in this year's rupaul's drag race but that didn't stop her from releasing an album pretty much as soon as the show aired. and one thing that makes this situation different from all of the manilas and gia gunns that decide to record songs/albums is that this album is genuinely amazing. pretty much everything on it is a good pop song that could potentially do okay with the mainstream public if given a boost; one of my favourite new danish acts of 2014 were de dødelige. their ep was all kinds of incredible. like at least half of the songs from it are bound to be top 100 of this year. sadly the new single failed to reach my expectations but let's see what the rest of the 'opdag, oplev, opgiv' trilogy will bring next year ; and almost making it to the top 10 are the eurovision-related compilations. the eurovision compilation itself is #12 and melodifestivalen gets to #11. i couldn't bring to upgrade them to top 10 because i only count sales and not streaming (= extra boost from seeing the event live in cph) for this chart

now we're off to see what's inside the top 10 and we'll start with something that slayed my life in q1. absolutely incredible. the singles were amazing, some of the album tracks didn't really lack in anything either. 'wonderland' is definitely a much stronger record than 'white magic' and i'm quite scared to see what he's going to come up with next. a good scared, like shit in pants from excitement scared

now we're off to sufjan's latest project which surprisingly wasn't as bad as i initially thought it could be. although, thinking about it, it's really stupid to think that anything that sufjan touches will not be instantly turned to gold. i mean come awn the world is yet to identify a single flaw in that man. now that his shirtless pictures have surfaced, i like the guy even more, if that was even possible. this album is a perfect combination of sufjan's angelic vocals, his style, with son lux's production and smooth, although sometimes ridiculous, lyrics of serengeti. the triple s just works despite what all the negative reviews think. 6.2 my ass. it's at least an 8.4. i don't buy shit on a cassette if it's not good so bye h8fork

despite breaking the 15th place record of 'dear science,' in 2008 by 7 positions, 'seeds' is not really my favourite album of the band. having said that, it's still incredibly strong and this year saw tv on the radio finally have their first #1 with 'love stained' that continues slaying life to this day

so only one of the songs actually reached top 20 of my chart oops, yet this album is #7 of 2014. it's just so slick and gentle and warm and kewl overall. the majority of the songs are really strong but they don't necessarily work outside of the lp on their own. production is to literally die for. it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. never was a *.* more appropriate! 'bloodflows' and especially that build-up and peak in 'lessons'. oh dear god. nevermind the album cover is one of the best of 2014 as well. just everything about it is incredible. a little bit of an oomph would've easily placed it top 3 of this year. but so far 'only' #7

yet another album that only had one top 20 song chart and it's officially the highest non-#1 of the year having peaked at #2 back in summer when the album leaked. i can't help but love everything he does really. as opposed to 'swim' this record doesn't stay afloat (look at me making puns!) due to massive highlights. it works as a whole and it might well be the most cohesive thing caribou put out. moreover, the cover is absolutely incredible, best of 2014 tbh, and makes you appreciate the music even more.

I don't have enough *.*'s to describe how amazing this album is. surely you gotta love a record that ends on such a killer track as 'barely' despite what the rest of it sounds like. oops. but nah the rest is just as good. production is so on point and robert's sound is as unique as always. who cares if you can barely (yay pun again!) understand the lyrics, it's the feeling that counts. and with trust's music you pretty much don't even need to get high to feel stuff. he does it for ya when writing stuff probably

Burial

Rival Dealer EP

this is who i am

03 Rival Dealer

02 Hiders

01 Come Down To Us

*

From #1 of 2013 to #4 of 2014. for an ep that is shaping up to be one of my favourite records ever it's not very surprising. burial instantly became phenomenal for me when he released this perfection. the theme, the lyrics, the production, the music, samples, the flow. the way it goes from a hard-sounding struggle in 'rival dealer' to gentle 'hiders' to hopeful and inspirational 'come down to us' is just out of this world. can't even put it in words. lyrically this ep speaks to me more than anything ever could perhaps. for example, i hear a 'this is who i am' or 'what you should never do is give up' or 'you are not alone' line and instantly become an absolute teary mess because i understand the message and live every word of the song. even now it's pretty impossible to write about it without getting emotional despite a year having passed since the release and especially because i have 'come down to us' playing in headphones right now. i think it's also very appropriate that burial finally revealed his face this year after the 'rival dealer' release. adds a personal touch which makes me appreciate his work, including the past records, even more now.

at least somewhere my taste matches p4k's. both of us deem lp1 to be 2nd best album of 2014. it's just so good isn't it? everything about it has already been said by plenty of people so i will not be adding much more to the picture. but imma merely say that she is a f***ing genius and i absolutely cannot possibly wait for new music any more than i am now.

everyone try to make a shocked face. BLUE is #1. it's been a wonderful 11-month journey from january 22 until december 22 but it's now ended and with it ended the BLUE era. it resulted in 9 weeks on top of the chart for the album and 7 #1 songs. there was no competition for yammy this year. there could be no competition at all because they can never do wrong. and that is a fact.
