Just noticed this... had a quick flick through and there's actually quite a lot I don't know this year. I haven't really followed the likes of Kasabian/Elbow/Idlewild/Wild Beasts etc this year so they will all be new to me and I get a sense that your chart is quite guitar based again?

It's great to see Josef Salvat doing well here, he's a bit of an obsession for me and i am so excited about his future if his early material/EPs are this strong. Definitely one to watch. Happy to see 'Second Life' here too - absolutely bonkers but such a joy whenever i listen. Doss was another big discovery for me this year :heart: EP was so strong!

 

Will keep a close eye on the rest of the top 5 now and listen to the ones i haven't heard!

05 - Paradis 'Garde Le Pour Toi' *debut*

Tout ce qu'on a de commun...

 

 

For the second year in a row there's some French in my top 5, although considerably more than was on Bibio's 'A Tout a L'heure' last year. Mixing French house and pop music, French duo Paradis made one of the biggest surprise hits for me this year. Something I listened to purely by chance, 'Garde Le Pout Toi' is just so summery, dreamy and refreshing. Another long song touching almost 7 minutes it's split nicely into parts, the intro is so long I assumed it was an instrumental the first time I listened. I've never been a huge listener of foreign language music but occasionally a truly excellent song comes about, and for the last few months I've been singing along to this despite having no idea what the words are or what they mean, proving music to be a truly universal language.

 

Brilliant discovery , thank you for sending it to BJSC Mark - it made the Top 40 in my countdown of 2014 too, as did Doss. If I had discovered "Garde Le Pour Toi" in the summer I dare say I would have charted it at #1 but it stalled at #2 in the end behind Caribou's "Our Love", which is not a bad song to stall behind given it spent 5 weeks at No. 1.
