i have toyed with the prospect of doing a 'ten songs you missed this yr' countdown as i have v few tracks i can say i adored this year, and most are the predictable (chandelier, crying 4 no reason) lot

unfortunately i'm not sure if i can manage ten songs people HAVE missed this yr without infringing on qassandravision retrospective write-ups

i haven't really done a proper countdown since 2010 tho so it is much of a muchness 4 me to not do one. i'm also pretty jaded on the idea of setting down solid numbered lists for a year given the eternal struggle of accurately placing q4 tracks in context and how wildly ordering tends to vary in retrospect

i'm much of the same mindset (hence why i'm not numbering 51-100) and the top 50 is just a snapshot of now ultimately and would be different come january for sure, though i don't look at this as anything definitive.

pls listen to songs from this: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=172341

most anticipated record of next year :o

IYES ‘Glow’

Roosevelt ‘Elliott’

Blonde feat. Melissa Steel ‘I Loved You’

The War on Drugs ‘Red Eyes’

Jerome Lol ‘Feel It For the First Time’

Kelis ‘Jerk Ribs’

A.N.D.Y. feat. Tayla ‘Minus One’

Porcelain Black ‘One Woman Army’

Eternal Death ‘Cry’

ASTR ‘We Fall Down’

Tei Shei ‘Bassically’

Tiombe Lockhart ‘Can’t Get Enough’

Gorgon City feat. MNEK ‘Ready for Your Love’

Wolf Alice ‘Moaning Lisa Smile’

Selena Gomez ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants (Kue Remix)’

well if a selection of tracks ever highlighted the variety in my taste. some fabulous pop songs bending a variety of genres from the dance-pop of blonde to the trash-pop of porcelain black to the electronic sad-pop of eternal death then over to the blissed out electronica of roosevelt a thoroughly good selection of tracks. i cba to write more at this point. listen to it all. it is excellent.

there is so much better in the way of a.n.d.y but u know i am a fan of that selena rmx, blonde is incredible 2!!!! lots of nice stuff there or at least nice artists

'Bang Bang' and possibly 'Baby Don't Lie' will feature within my Top 50 EOY. However I do agree with you about 'Waves'. I don't mind it, but it's incredibly overrated - I would never have predicted it to be a million seller, which therefore makes it one of the best selling dance songs of all time. An undeserved accolade.

I like these from your positive list, particularly Blonde:

Blonde feat. Melissa Steel ‘I Loved You’

Gorgon City feat. MNEK ‘Ready for Your Love’

Selena Gomez ‘The Heart Wants What It Wants (Kue Remix)’ - I've not heard the remix but I may check it out. Rather like the original!

that remix is fucking badass babe, let me know what you think.

and yes, thankfully i have been able to avoid 'waves' (and many of these terrible songs) i'm not quite sure what i'd do should i hear it on a night out. probably go to the toilet or vomit.

I have to say I'm not really paying much attention to any of the EOY countdowns this year as I'm not doing one myself but I will try to remember to make an exception for this one with such excellent quality write-ups.

Lots of very valid criticisms for 'Money On My Mind' (re: the lyrics / the message) but I still think it's a very good song and certainly exponentially more interesting than all the tedium that followed it - it probably helps a lot that I don't find the falsetto irritating (I seem to be in a very small minority on this website). I didn't think it would be possible for his music to get any more bland than 'Stay With Me' but I've already been proven wrong with his version of 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas', he takes what is a rather dull song to begin with and somehow still manages to suck all the joy out of it, especially bad when it's supposed to be FESTIVE. I really dread his second album if he plans to continue on this trajectory.

Also think 'Bang Bang' is relatively tolerable by Jessie J standards but she as an artist/person is completely indefensible, hopefully it is a matter of a couple of years at most before she totally drops off the radar as she's by far the worst excuse for a popstar the UK (or anywhere really) has produced for quite some time.

Lots of songs in the positive lot that I've not heard as I expect will continue to be the case but excellent to see 'Tuesday' in there as well as all the obvious big hit ones and BJSC entries ~

why thank you breanna, what a lovely comment. there will be some more in depth write-ups later on both good and bad.

smith really is just banal (even his artist name), his other material is less offensively bad and just boring. it'd be fabulous if he attempted to be a little more contemporary with his next album but given how well this current one has done, i'm not going to hold out much in the way of hope. and i too expect to see jessie j disappearing over the next few years. she's f***ed herself over with a terrible personality and subpar music!

One Woman Army is absolutely fabulous, such a HUGE jam and I cannot resist a good singalong to it.

I like a lot of Jessie's music and Bang Bang is one of my favourites by her but as a person, I find her very irritating, so I do get the hate for her.

Little Nikki ‘Yo Yo’

Charli XCX ‘Boom Clap’

Sabina Ddumba ‘Scarred for Life’

Ronya ‘Flame’

The Parlour Suite ‘Pressure’

Dornik ‘Rebound’

Rae Morris ‘Skin’

Katy Perry ‘This Is How We Do’

George Maple ‘Vacant Space’

Shamir ‘On the Regular’

another mixed up bag here. little nikki is typical of a lot of what i listen to; an act that has everything going for them but not quite having IT. what that 'it' is can vary, poor label management, styling off, wrong genre-wrong time or some sort of combination of them all. following up is somebody whose debut i truly adored and well nothing since has really matched up; sometimes those that you love have other plans on their minds that just aren't compatible with yourself. so in a way me and charli xcx have broken up. i can't work out whether she wants to be a big international popstar or something more indie. 'sucker' doesn't seem to be able to decide either. next up is a lovely ballad from sabina dumba, where has she disappeared to since? left-of-field pop from the lovely ronya. this rae morris era seems to have been going on for forever, it'll be interesting to see whether she can take off in 2015. honestly believe she deserves to. katy perry released one of the best videos of the year with 'this is how we do', proving how much a good quality video can make what appears to be an average song-- grow and grow. jessie ware impersonator george maple released the fabulous 'vacant space', doing jessie ware better than she does herself these days. and finally is shamir a very promising colourful pop rapper. i'm not sure how a whole record will turn out though?

Sandra Lyng ‘Don't Care’

Emilie Nicolas ‘Pstereo’

The Saturdays ‘Not Giving Up (Radio Mix)’

Bipolar Sunshine ‘Drowning Butterflies’

Lion Babe ‘Jump Hi (Todd Edwards Remix)’

KIll J ‘Bullet’

Lykke Li ‘Gunshot (San Zhi vs. The Shoes Remix)’

Mykki Blanco ‘Booty Bamboo’

Lorde ‘Team’

Shakira ‘Dare la.la.la (Spanish Version)’

well a particularly bombastic selection here. and key to note it's taking songs and remixing/improving them. the saturdays providing one of the most essential poppers o'clock moments of 2014. lion babe being remixed into deep house and lykke being turned into fun popstar instead of the rigid bore she seems to have become of late. shakira is more ridiculous than ever with world cup spectacular 'dare', improved with its spanish version. it feels like 'team' came out here years ago and lorde is actually now in her 80s but no, out earlier this year and it's when i really got into it. here is hoping we can get a second record from her next year. some other really good stuff here too but i cba.

EVERYTHING CHERYL COLE RELEASED EVER BUT PARTICULARLY THIS YEAR

http://images.teamsugar.com/files/upl1/20/202476/02_2009/7f84eea41df01f9b_cheryl_cole_interview_with_vogue_uk.jpg

back to some of the negative and here is one that can be brought up every time she releases something. britain's 'sweetheart' cheryl cole-tweedy-vernandez-fersini. here in a nutshell represents everything that is wrong with the musical world in 2014. four albums in and what sort does she have to say for herself? what is cheryl's legacy? to have come from such prestigious musical beginnings in girls aloud and xenomania, cheryl has carved out a career on a basis of being a media personality, 'nice' (surely the most offensive word you could ever use to do describe a pop singer) and something of a gay icon.

i count about two quality singles all in all ('fight for this love' and 'call me') amongst a sea of absolute tosh. it is quite clear that cheryl couldn't give a shit about music as the rest of her discography speaks for itself. four albums and all of them, to all intents and purposes dire. launching herself on the back of public sympathy following her former husband's affair to distance cheryl has gone to be at the centre of british culture is both incredible but also incredibly disconcerting. what does 'our cheryl' stand for? what does she have to show for herself? a one woman justice collective military wives type charity single figure. the music is basic, ill-conceived and just plain lazy. almost insulting to the listener but no-one seems to give a shit. what interests this woman musically? where is her artistry? it's all beyond basic and fits neatly to her high profile figure, using status to sell records that can be as shit as they like (and they are) because middle britain will buy into her aura. her lip-synced performance of under-produced, half-baked and incredibly ironic 'i don't care' on x factor earlier this year sums everything up perfectly. this is where musical society has gone wrong, this is what we buy into. a commodity, a nice girl done good, release anything and we will cherish you.

what makes it worse babe is that to what i see us that she's lost her definining attribute; she isn't even LIKEABLE anymore, she comes across as totally disingenuous and false to me these days (especially after her watery series of the x factor just gone) and i'm shocked that anyone can warm to her or her music.
Can you not bully our Cherly, she's been through enough x
another reason to add to the list

I'm not sure I like your tone, Leww ;O x

Some great inclusions here, Jake, particularly 'Gunshot' 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' (the remixes of which I haven't heard but I'm sure they're wonderful), 'Bassically', 'I Loved You' and 'Jerk Ribs'.

I agree with many of your points on Cheryl's music, especially how 'I Don't Care's mimed, half-arsed X Factor performance and subsequent #1 status is representative of how low people's standards have dropped for her. I wasn't surprised in the slightest to see it exit the charts quickly as it's an incredibly basic, throwaway song with shockingly bad vocals in the chorus but the very fact it debuted at the top spot says it all. I think sometimes when people talk about things like 'legacy' and 'artistry', it can come across as pretentious/snobbish to some people but you make very valid points. I don't understand how people can steadfastly defend someone who continually produces utterly uninspired, disposable, trend-chasing attempts at hits.

Having said that, have you heard 'Only Human' the song, out of interest?! It's excellent and exactly the kind of music she should be doing.

what has she been through that the rest of us haven't? we're all only human after all!

That's the best plug for her album in weeks! :kink:

Btw I'm pleasantly surprised to see the anthem 'Not Giving Up' by The Saturdays included in a positive sense. They've had worse singles do a lot better than than it, shame.
