December 30, 201410 yr Author WORST ARTWORK CAMPAIGN you’ve strived to become a successful music artist all your life, working your way up to getting signed. you daydream and fantasise about your album title, your album cover. it’s your statement, your identity and…this is what you come out with: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/83/Foxes_-_Glorious_(Deluxe).png or the alternative cover: or one of the single covers: http://www.josepvinaixa.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Foxes-Let-Go-for-Tonight-2014-Alternate.png i love nothing more than consistent artwork but not when the theme seems to have been to make act look as braindead, vacant and quite frankly stupid as possible. would you want to buy that artist’s single? http://diymag.com/images/uploads/foxesmag970.jpg quite right foxes.
December 30, 201410 yr Author LIKE A FOOL I'M IN A CAGE I CAN'T GET OUT 10 The Subs feat. Colonel Abrahams ‘Trapped’ so just squeezing in at number 10 is the subs' wonderful reinterpretation of colonel abrahams' 'trapped'. here the subs take dance music to a whole other higher level with this incredibly evocative and powerful piece of dance. it moved me from the very first listen in a way music often doesn't. with lew's advice i eventually sent it to bjsc and it came an unfortunate second behind 'amelia'. SHOULD HAVE GIVEN ME MY SECOND WIN OF THE YEAR!!!! anyway terrible write-up for an amazing song i do apologise and will try to improve with time (; ZvnPzKompKktSNWeXGZMcU
December 30, 201410 yr sissy that walk and trapped... so many good songs in this countdown tbh sweetheart but the post of choice is that f***ing awful foxes artwork campaign, good GOD a misfire if there was one!!!
December 30, 201410 yr Author DO YA, DO YA 09 Toyboy & Robin ‘Jaded’ here lies a total monster of a dance track, this is dance at it's most intelligently composed and well thought out. i usually hold this sort of music in total disdain but 'jaded' transcends beyond infectious. there isn't much more i can say as it's the simplicity of the song that it is its greatest credit. quite how i won bj contest with the inferior 'artifice' is something of a miracle. once more the longer the better so it was the original mix that really excelled for me. but below is the radio edit video version: that simple breakdown in the second half, ahhh! Gvyk2-H81-8
December 30, 201410 yr "Jaded" is amazing, how it failed to STORM BJSC really does astound me, but then Pavel has won it several times so quality is something not necessarily celebrated by the contest it seems.
December 31, 201410 yr Author "Jaded" is amazing, how it failed to STORM BJSC really does astound me, but then Pavel has won it several times so quality is something not necessarily celebrated by the contest it seems. sorry, yeah i was too busy winning on my first go whilst i believe you were too busy looking at gfs ensembles so the above statement means nothing except for the fact i agree with you
December 31, 201410 yr Author YOU AIN’T GETTIN’ ANY YOUNGER YOUNGER YOUNGER 08 Seinabo Sey ‘Younger (Kygo Remix)’ seinabo sey is really cool. for starters she has a really cool name, which you are really rather unsure as to how to pronounce. your friend has heard of her but doesn't get who you are speaking about until the youtube video springs up and you both realise you are talking about the same person (this is a recurring theme as you shall see later in this countdown). seinabo sey comes from africa via sweden. she shares this in common with once potential popstar mohombi except he is rubbish and she is rather spectacular. she performed towards the tail end of the year on jools holland. it was something of a revelation, filling the gaps that adele seems to have left: GRoRq-hh6sI she is both impeccably and perfectly dressed. the song in its original guise is pretty much spot on, but somehow a remixer by the name of kygo manages to improve on fantasticalness. for a start kygo has pretty much done an avicii and created a very idiosyncratic sound, it's generally being tilted as 'tropical house' and it's already filtering into some mainstream dance releases. basically, kygo is f***ing amazing, he isn't just spinning something you've heard 20 years ago with new production, it's a totally new revalation. it's organic and soft but it's euphoric and sugary, it is generally amazing and next year should he have a 'wake me up' up his sleeve allow him to explode and dance to finally evolve forward instead of consciously staring back. enough of the music week-lit copy. in essence this song has really resonated with me in 2014. for some reason turning 24 really freaked me out, i was no longer early 20s and kind of tied to my teens, i’m now mid-20s and have to start taking account for myself and i still don’t know how to do it. time keeps ticking as this song reminds me; but it ticks with me rather than against me. gx4rsZkCCss kygo's recent mix for diplo and friends has been on repeat for much of the year and deserves your time should you want to wind down: madge should be getting him to produce tracks for her sometime around mid-to-late 2016...
December 31, 201410 yr "Jaded" is amazing, how it failed to STORM BJSC really does astound me, but then Pavel has won it several times so quality is something not necessarily celebrated by the contest it seems. Doctor Whore :(
December 31, 201410 yr sorry, yeah i was too busy winning on my first go whilst i believe you were too busy looking at gfs ensembles so the above statement means nothing except for the fact i agree with you This is very true, a win that inspired me to join up. GFS ensembles that broke my heart. : ( Doctor Whore :( It's just BANTER, I don't really mean it Pav.
December 31, 201410 yr Author BOUQUET. FINAL. 07 Yelle ‘Bouquet Final’ i'm a real sucker for any music or song that is firm in what it wants to project. if you want to be sad be sad, if you want to be happy, don't wrap it up in metaphors and allegories unless you are joanna newsom or at a push deerhunter. yelle seems to have got that memo with her/their/french to the point album closer (when you exclude deluxe bonus extras) 'bouquet final'. i am no frenchman, in many ways i wish i was, everything sounds so much more meaningful. the disgust, the joy, the etc. you can always tell emotively in french where the person is coming from, something us english could learn from. in one listen to 'bouquet final' i was totally engrossed, there is no need for translation to garner the essence of what this song is all about; it smacks you in the face with first listen: it's the end, FINAL, no more and done so melodically and softly. in life it is often hard to say, no more, THE END etc be it a relationship, another chip or 3 grams of cheap street drugs. here yelle poses as a substitute for me to get all those precise-and-no-more feelings out and i forgot to mention it is so bloody MELODIC i can't really deal with it~~~ " data-tag="youtube" data-tagfull=" ">
December 31, 201410 yr Author IT'S ALRIGHT IF YOU WANT TO GET USED, THEN GET USED 06 Years & Years ‘Take Shelter’ the bbc sound of... poll is a total poisoned chalice. acts with a few launch/buzz singles to their name that a major label has signed to their roster are all pushed together to form a poll that seems to have no real basis in reality because those that work in the music industry, as ever, have no idea what it is that the general public are looking for. being a part of this poll totally changes the way you look at an act also. you can try and cast even judgment but it's impossible. once you are included within 'sound of x year' you are basically spread across the bbc for forever, with every single playlisted no matter how niche (just see chvrches...). as someone that loves new music, sadly the bbc ruin it because rather than expanding the public's taste, it keeps it boxed in and conservative. it does the very thing it promises not to. years & years have been something refreshing. pop but soul but a group and totally creating their own sound. 'take shelter' is a pretty much perfect pop moment. the verses are as good as the chorus, the tone is pitch perfect. it is just wonderful. the artwork (as with all of the other releases) is fabulous. i am just saddened that this song, oly, the band as a whole, 'real', the full length lp are going to be inescapable. they are quite clearly going to follow the bastille model in the new year. following all the hype of the 'sound of...' material forthcoming in the near future, they'll release their 'pompeii', be at every festival on the bbc's coverage and be looking more emeli sande than kitsune. they will go down a total bastille path and it sucks to know that already but the bbc make it too easy. the bringer of new music to the masses is the habitual ruiner of new music to the passionate. still this song is wonderful and closeted lead singer oly is fit. the video is the video: Z0atZQSUE80 if only pop wasn't a dirty word and had to be wrapped up in layers upon layers of context...
December 31, 201410 yr I saw Olly in an episode of Lewis last night which probably dates from around 2010. He will always be best remembered for his stalker role in Skins tho.
December 31, 201410 yr Author I LIVE MY LIFE IN SHACKLES BUT I'M BORDERLINE FREE 7zhwihAXMlI 05 Tove Styrke ‘Borderline’ in many ways tove styrke is incredibly lucky. she does absolutely everything one would except of an alt-pop star: pretty, stylish, unpronounceable name and excellent pop songs to back it up. 'borderline' is a bit of everything apart from the iamspamspamamisink. it ticks all the boxes of perfect pop. beautiful, melodic, engaging, pensive. the moment this song comes on, it cancels everything out, forgets the moment before it and totally commands you to listen. i've played this at drug-fuelled afterparties, to girlfriends over coffee and to my mother as well as many other cliched situations, the results are all the same, people love it and take notice. this is what makes this iteration of tove styrke so fabulous. she is commanding in a totally restrained and elegant fashion. she is ubiquitous to her own musical prerogative. but enough swan song. back to why tove is lucky: she was nowhere to be seen on the tips lists for 2015. she quietly put out an ep and did some gigs in cool places. and that's it. the head of music at radio 1 already loves this track, recently tweeting about it and therefore should easily secure playlisted status later this year. she's even luckier because she hasn't the sterilising impact of '2015' 'HOT' 'TIPS' being brandished on her profile. she can just APPEAR and be really cool and organic and that makes me happy because those are the qualities that really shine through in her music. it's also fabulous to see how far both swedish pop has percolated into the mainstream zeitgeist but also the fact that the impact RIHANNA has had on popular music is beginning to ripple out.... enough context though, this song perfectly straddles the melting pot of emotions felt throughout youth and the notion of freedom...being both borderline happy and borderline free. obviously it totally resonated with me and i can also dance down properly to it. AMAZING, AMAZING. to all intents and purposes this has been the perfectly excecuted launch thus far. perfect art, video, remixes, release pattern and the music is perfect too. bravo to whoever is concerned. an amazing reinvention and pretty much my most anticipated full length for 2015 from the same ep 'walking the line' is also a total triumph: lIM0lRn3oHk GOOD LUCK TOVE!!
December 31, 201410 yr Author I saw Olly in an episode of Lewis last night which probably dates from around 2010. He will always be best remembered for his stalker role in Skins tho. the lad's talents know no bounds. what other artists can boast appearances in 'lewis' and a boutique single release on kitsune? not even la roux's 'the bill' sergent auckland connection doesn't even come close!
January 4, 201510 yr Author YOU LIGHT ME UP INSIDE LIKE THE 4TH OF JULY 03 Becky G ‘Shower’ to all intents and purposes this shouldn't be in this countdown, i shouldn't like it but occasionally along comes up a pop song that totally turns things on its head for you. becky g will never make a good popstar, not in the short term anyway but here lies a song beautiful in its simplicity. saccharine in a most proficient way. this song reminds me of a good friend of mine who kept my head up over summer when we would sing this song together and she would get the words totally wrong. it is such a feel-good song and easily one of the best pop moments of the year. divine, divine, DIVINE~~~ 50-_oTkmF5I
January 4, 201510 yr Author I WANT TO BE EVERYTHING AND NOTHING 02 Eternal Death ‘Head’ eternal death hark back to the kind of indie-electronica act that seems to have died. the crystal castles, purity ring, ladytron types that put on a bloody good gig and feed out good energy. here is the act whose album i am most excited for in 2015. a set of stellar singles thus far. 'head' is single of contradictions; ethereal, otherworldly vocals matched to almost metalesque synth backing and it produces something utterly beautiful. can't wait to see them live this year <3 uOhC_hck8xA
